Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

Look up... -
^ Funny, because a similar movie came out in *I think* the early 90s that was similar to Avatar (Ferngully) which was directed at children, with a similar plot but replace humans and blue aliens with humans and fairies.

Hey, Me and my family are taking a weeklong cruise (Carnival Fantasy) in August and since this is gonna be my first cruise ever, I'm wondering what to expect (as in food, stuff to do, etc... as well as the overall experience). Judging by some of the remarks made toward Carnival here and on other websites and the somewhat negative experience my parents had with one of the reps, I shouldn't be expecting much right?

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
netdvn replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure conservative is the right word. Maybe complacent. I'd say the company has a rich history of innovation. IMO the only REALLY innovative concept that B&M has built was the Invert. Most other B&M projects are based off of something that's already been done by another manufacturer or the sit down concept. Stand ups and hypers were already established coaster-types when B&M came into the market and Vekoma came up with the flying coaster concept before B&M decided to. Dive Machines and Floorless coasters seem to be more of a sit down coaster with an extra gimmick added in. You could say that inverted coasters were based off of suspended coasters, but the two give different rides. Inverts seem to focus more on swooping drops and inversions while suspended coasters revolve around the swinging sensation. But then again, that's just me. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

B&M is a very conservative coaster company that doesn't really like to push limits like other manufacturers do. They tend to stick with what's tried and true, which allows for better reliability and safety. The thing that makes Intamin stand out is that they push the limits to the extreme and are always willing to experiment. Unfortunately it leads to breakdowns, unreliability, and a safety record that isn't as good as B&M. -
TPR and Theme Park Artwork
netdvn replied to sfmmFREAK's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
The park is coming along pretty nicely now. Become a fan on Facebook Coaster-wise the park has a Dive Machine, family coaster, Giga-Coaster, heavily-themed Mack water coaster, and a Vekoma Suspended coaster. A number of flat rides and dark rides have also been made since then. Close ups will come when I can get to it. With summer coming up, I'm probably gonna upload more content to TPR as well as the fan page sometime soon. Park #3 - Become a fan on Facebook and tell the world -
Point Plaza[RCT2]

At first I thought the park was decent. I had some minor gripes with some of the theming in the first few screens. But as I saw more and more of the park, I've seen some major improvement (especially in the Medieval area and the invert). The theming around the invert is amazing and I feel this park is getting better and better. The theming in some parts of the park feel a little sparse and some of the buildings are a little blocky, but the park is seriously getting better and better. -
BGW Crowds on a Mid-June Weekday?
netdvn replied to VGplay's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've gone to the park on plenty of weekdays without any problem with crowds and walk-ons for most of the bigger rides. Even in the dead of summer, crowds are fairly light on weekdays and pick up slightly more on weekends during the day. Since its closer to summer you won't have to deal with the park being overrun by locals or school groups/band trips. Just try to hit all the major rides as early as possible to leave time to explore the rest of the park later in the day. However, the crowds will pick up later in the day as the locals let out from work and visit the park for the afternoon. -
That building has been a waste of space since they removed Questor....Bring that back and I will give it some love. I am not that excited about a drop tower though. I would rather have an S&S space shot, the mid-atlantic really needs one, but since they said single tower that would probably mean a gyro drop. JEFF Who said it wasn't gonna be an S&S Space Shot? Power Tower is 240 feet so a slightly taller Space Shot shouldn't be ruled out at this point. The plans just say that Busch is filing a permit for a large single tower. It can mean just about anything at this point since whatever's stated in the permit is very vague. It could even be a large observation tower for all we know.

Even though I love violent and gory movies, HTF really doesn't appeal to me. While some were kinda funny and some were okay, I've seen much better stuff. I guess seeing cute and adorable animals die in horrible ways isn't my cup of tea.

^^ 80s nostalgia is making a comeback... - Transformers - GI Joe - Ninja Turtles - Mega Man - Super Mario Bros. - Alvin and the Chipmunks - Rocky - Rambo And now Karate Kid is getting the makeover treatment. On another note, I just discovered that they're making a live-action Smurfs movie I wouldn't be surprised to see Care Bears or My Little Pony get a remake sometime soon. And on another note, with Darkwing Duck comics and Sonic 4 coming soon (and Nick bringing back GUTS for a season), I'm starting to see the 90s come back as well.

Coaster Shows on TV
netdvn replied to kenshinmac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I used to watch coaster shows when I was younger and didn't know much about coasters. I found them fascinating and it gave me an interesting peek into the amusement industry that I've never seen before. Then I discovered Coasterbuzz, Thrill Network, and Coasterforce. I started lurking around the message boards and over time, I learned a lot more information about the parks, rides, history, etc than I would've learned watching the specials on the Travel Channel or Discovery. So I'd watch them for the POVs but that was it. Then I discovered POVs on Youtube and started watching those. They had no corny commentary, no stereotypical nerdy enthusiasts shouting random stats during the ride; sure the camera work was a little shaky but I preferred watching those over the specials. It seems that these specials always pick the nerdiest of enthusiasts who know that Coaster-X is connected by 12,345 nuts and bolts or who love the ride so much, they have to paint their braces to match the ride's colors, no matter how boring or rough in actuality they really are (and yes I actually saw that on a special). Nowadays the only specials I'll ever watch are retro specials from the 70s/80s/90s and maybe early 00s. -
Ha--well, he was at BGW recently... I'm still holding out small hope for a woodie, Kings Mill dwellers be damned (except for my Aunt and Uncle, of course)! This Kingsmill resident would love to see a woodie come to BGW... Perhaps an Evel Knievel/Terminator Salvation-style woodie to fill in the void left behind by BBW. As for the strata vs. terra coaster debate I kinda feel this whole "world's first terra coaster" deal is just another marketing ploy by CF to attract visitors through the gate. There have been plenty of ground-hugging coasters built in the past, so Maverick wasn't really the first. And I doubt Maverick was the first Intamin terrain coaster... So it's a terra coaster, but so is BBW...

^ Rumor says another coaster or a new land... A B&M flyer seems to be the most likely result though since that's the only B&M project that has yet to be built at BGW (this isn't counting sit-down because BGW has LNM). Although under new management, the coaster can be anything. As for the new land, Spain seems to be a very popular rumor going around at the moment.

I did a quick search of the word Kangaloom and I just come across nothing but broken links. But it seems to be a largely Australian thing with terms like New South Wales and Australia showing up. Which confuses me because why would an African-themed park have an area themed to Australia??? Could this be the new name for an Aquatica project or another Sea World attraction instead?

Again, don't go too fast... Yes you've worked on 70 different coasters, but they all seem to have something wrong with it solely judging by your hypercoaster thread and your RCT3 park thread. Follow everyone's advice and learn to perfect your projects. Stop rushing through everything or you're never gonna improve. Look at real coasters, look at other people's projects, and practice a lot! Don't just assume that you can make good fictional coasters, let alone recreations after making 70 mediocre coasters that have problems with them. -

1) The rules posted on the website came from an alumni from the school who wanted to reveal the truth behind PCC and their rules in general. Some of the rules have been exaggerated. 2) From reading the actual rulebook circa 1999-2000 and 2000-2001, the rules at the school are very strict and it reflects a hardcore conservative Christian viewpoint, which isn't fit for everyone. Granted society and culture has changed since 1999-2000 so chances are the school has become more lenient on some of the rules they posted sine then. 3) Reading reviews of the school on different websites, the school is often criticized for its very stern rules and the fact that its an unaccredited school so credits will not transfer. 4) The school has an indoor waterpark *cool* and is giving away a free year of education *awesome* to entice students to come to the school. I'm pretty sure most other universities/colleges will not offer a free ride to anyone unless they have a scholarship and they get good grades/are excellent at sports. So basically this school is trying to attract an audience that may be turned off by the horror stories. -
Why is it that teachers love to pile tons of homework, quizzes, projects, and tests close to *insert long holiday break here*? It really makes me wonder whether or not teachers love to grade mountains of work before/during their days off. I personally hate working on all this stuff and it makes me wish school would just be over with in time for vacation already.

netdvn replied to CoasterGeek101's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I've been reading all your threads lately and I've noticed something... You need to slow down! Working on three-four projects at once isn't easy, especially when you've got a lot of work to do in each one. Building a recreation of a coaster is even more difficult since everything has to be perfect (or close to perfect as you can get) in order to have a good-looking ride/attraction. You're working on that hyper that people are still saying you need to fix and that RCT3 park that has one or two coasters and people are telling you to fix. Now you're trying to work on a recreation, which has an increased difficulty curve. - Just work on perfecting one project and worry about the rest later or nothing will ever get finished. - Don't go headfirst into building recreations until you manage to perfect your other stuff first or you're never gonna be able to finish it. Start with a couple fictional coasters and learn to perfect the ride, theming, etc... in general. -

They're giving away a year of school for free so my guess is that they'er having trouble getting people to enroll (according to the website). Personally I wouldn't apply there, but if my kids wanted to go, I'm not stopping them from going. Of course I would prefer my future kids to go to college in state. Reading the rules and the school's position on Wikipedia and on the official website, it seems like a very conservative school which woudn't work for me. -
Summer's less than a month... So much work to do to get to summer. But I'm going to the Bahamas later this summer so I'm REALLY excited about this.
