Battling Infertility - our story
PhantomNick replied to PhantomNick's topic in Random, Random, Random
Well, I figured it was time to update this little story of ours......by introducing to TPR our lovely daughter, Morgan Elizabeth!!! Morgan came 4 weeks early, as scheduled, via c-section on January 27th. She tipped the scales at 6 lbs., 15 oz, and came in at 19 inches long (well on her way to coaster riding height, haha!) My wife Erin and I are simply over the moon with excitement that our little miracle - 5 years in the making - is finally here! She is just perfect, and we instantly fell head over heels in love with her when they first handed her over to us in the hospital. She's now 7 weeks old (already!), and it's just an absolute blast watching her grow and develop! There's really nothing better than holding her in my arms.....she's absolutely beautiful! (Yes, I realize I'm biased.....but that's fine with me!! ) And some of her faces? Totally cracks me up! I think she's got a good start on a spunky little personality. Just wanted to also thank those of you who followed along and posted some very sweet comments in regards to this whole journey. Now the journey continues, and the real FUN has begun!! Anyway, enough talking.....here are some favorite pictures of our darling Morgan!! Welcome to the world, Morgan!! Ready to come home from the hospital Hanging out with my girls! Daddy's sweetie LOVED this pose she randomly did! (How you doin'??) Valentine's Day <3 Hey! You lookin' at me?? Morgan contemplating life Fist bump!! Yesterday's St. Patrick's Day outfit -
In answer to your second question, no, you don't have to be a Club TPR member to be a part of Team TPR for Coasting for Kids. As the first post states, you just click on the link for whatever park you want to participate, then register under Team TPR (once you click on the park link, you would just select "Click here to join an existing team"). Now I will give you my humble opinion on your first inquiry. Each of the Cedar Fair parks will gradually release itineraries for their Coasting for Kids event, with info on the hours of the "marathon", the ride(s) that are used, and other details such as registration, meals, prizes, etc. The general rule of thumb is to follow the itinerary as a participant of the event. In my past few years of supporting this wonderful cause, I've seen a few folks "do their own thing" after just a few laps in the morning at the beginning of the event. Just my 2 cents, but to me that totally misses the point of what this event is all about. We are at these parks representing TPR in support of an amazing charity and cause in Give Kids The World. We need to be visible to the public, and help raise awareness of what GKTW does and what they are all about. It's not really about riding what we want or what our favorite coasters at that park are. Sometimes the coaster(s) selected may not be our favorites or the smoothest in the world or whatever, but I often think to myself that some minor discomfort on a coaster is nothing compared to what these children that GKTW serves have to endure every single day. These are kids with often life-threatening illnesses. Now, that said, you will certainly have a BLAST doing this event, as it is a lot of fun!! Some of my fondest memories with this event are making new friendships and hanging out pushing ourselves to marathon a ride as much as we can. Breaks are certainly encouraged, and I myself take more the older I get. But usually even during this time I'll hang around the station/exit and cheer on my fellow participants as they ride on! Not to mention, the event typically doesn't run from park open until park close, so you'll have a few hours to do other things once the event concludes. So, I hope you and your wife decide to join up with Team TPR and give this event a try. I promise you that you will not be disappointed!! I hope this answers your questions! EDIT: I see a few others helped out while I was writing this, and that you joined up! Welcome aboard!! I'll still go ahead and post this though if others have similar questions.

Lagoon Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This coaster looks so unique, and I think the layout and associated rock work additions all look fantastic! I would love to ride Cannibal someday!! And kudos to Lagoon for coming up with this in-house......that's pretty awesome. That first drop looks absolutely ridiculous, in the best possible way!! -
Skyplex Orlando Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, it's amazing how much this project is evolving and developing! Looks like it will be a huge win for the Orlando area. The coaster already looked pretty sick, but now with the infusion of Intamin into the mix, I'm even more excited for the ride! Even if the layout doesn't change too drastically (though it does look like there will be some modifications), the fact is that Intamin can likely provide a smoother and better ride experience than S&S could have, especially over time. The whole complex, with the nearby Orlando Eye, just looks great. Timing should work out good too (from our standpoint, anyway).....we have our "Orlando change jug" and associated vacation club account at our bank for a big time Orlando vacation bash at some point, including Disney (of course.....and I've never been there!), Universal, and some other stops. With our new baby in the mix, we were thinking that when she's 4 would be a perfect time to hit up the area (so she can fully have a blast at Disney!). That'd put us around 2019, so I'm confident this project will be done by then. That means a definite side trip for a spin (or three) on the world's tallest coaster! -
Okay, the first post in the thread has now been updated! It looks like all 11 parks now have a Team TPR created, including ones with no riders yet. I'm not sure if GKTW carried over popular teams from last year and created them, or if maybe Robb did. (Just curious, for those of you that signed up already and joined a Team TPR, did you create it, or was it already available to select?) For those signed up, check the first post and make sure everything looks good where I've listed your individual information (name, TPR screen name, and link to your personal fundraising page). If you see any errors, please let me know! Itineraries for the parks usually take awhile to get finalized, so I wouldn't expect those just yet. As the old saying goes, every journey begins with a single step.....Team TPR is off and running and has already raised $474 for GKTW!
-
^ I would say that the "point person" just ends up being someone the day of the event that can be in contact with Robb to text photos from the event. In my experiences, there's not really a "team captain" per se. The main focus of a Team TPR at any given park is to just have a great time, make some new friends with fellow TPR members, and support this wonderful cause to help children in need. The coaster riding, to me, has always just been an added bonus! So I wouldn't worry about having to be a team captain, especially if this is your first time participating in the event. To clear up your earlier question about the first post still showing that teams need to be created: please keep in mind that while I plan to be very active in this thread to keep it moving and build some Team TPR momentum, I will not necessarily be able to update the team statuses, donation tallies, etc. every single day. (I do have work commitments and a new baby at home, after all! ) All I politely ask is to be patient. Some weeks I may only be able to update that first post once or twice. Other weeks, I may be updating it every other day or so. Bottom line is we are keeping up on things, and the updates will happen. In fact, after this initial surge the last couple days, I'm hoping to have things updated later today. Thanks to all those who have signed up and gotten some of our teams up and running!! Here's to a tremendous Coasting for Kids season for Team TPR!

Theme Park Review is proud to announce that we are once again working with Give Kids The World to help raise money for Coasting For Kids 2015! This year's Coasting For Kids event takes place on Sunday, June 7th (Sunday, June 14th at Valleyfair). What is "Coasting For Kids"? It's a fundraiser hosted by Cedar Fair, with the proceeds going to Give Kids The World, a wonderful organization that helps children with life threatening illnesses. In short, it's riding roller coasters for a GREAT cause! Robb & Elissa have asked me to again help coordinate this year's Team TPR effort, and I am more than happy to do so! Team TPR will consist of TPR members raising money while riding roller coasters. But we need riders! And this is where YOU come in! We need as many TPR members as possible who are willing to ride a coaster (or coasters) at a Cedar Fair park for six to eight hours. You'll register your donation page at the links below, and get as many of your fellow TPR members, co-workers, family, friends, Facebook friends, Twitter followers, etc to donate to your page. Top riders who get the most donations will get some cool stuff, too! Team TPR Members will also be able to choose and create one of FOUR custom signature banners with a direct link to your donations page! (See below for instructions) Below are the links to start your donations page for the Cedar Fair park you wish to be a rider at. Simply click the link, go through the registration process, make SURE you affiliate yourself with Team TPR (or, if it doesn't exist yet, we ask you to please create it), and then reply to this thread with a link to your donations page so we can help promote it! There is a tax deductible, $25 registration fee that will fully be donated to Give Kids The World. That fee will also include your event T-Shirt, ERT on one or more roller coasters (TBD) on June 7th, plus food and drinks the day of the event. You do not need to worry about park admission. All participants will be required to pay the $25 registration fee and raise a minimum of $75 in order to participate. Those who have participated in the past will tell you this day is a ton of fun for a great cause, so I recommend that everyone participates! Again, Coasting For Kids 2015 is happening on Sunday, June 7th at a Cedar Fair park near you! Register below to help raise money for Give Kids The World. You will get to ride a roller coaster for six-plus hours. Trust us, you do NOT want to miss out on this! Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Did I miss the memo where Rougarou will have 90-degree drops from a holding brake?? My only point is that I think they're plenty different enough from one another to not be a pointless addition. And as others have mentioned, the GP will love it.....and heck, so will I if one is added! The only dive machine I've been on is Griffon, and I absolutely loved it!! Was it an "automatic Top-10 coaster"? Nope, but it was one that I found to be a blast to ride each and every time! -
Battling Infertility - our story
PhantomNick replied to PhantomNick's topic in Random, Random, Random
Hello again, TPR friends! I just thought I'd dust off this little thread and give an update on our journey to parenthood, for anyone who read the initial post and might be curious. As posted above, almost a year ago, in late Feb. 2014, we did in fact attempt our first IVF cycle (frozen embryo transfer). Unfortunately, it was not successful. After a period of grieving and regrouping, we targeted June 2014 for our second transfer attempt. The first embryo they used did not survive the thawing process, so they needed to use our 3rd of 4 embryos for the transfer. We had decided earlier to plan a vacation for right after the transfer (relaxing could only help, right?). We headed away to visit family, go to Kings Dominion (where I participated in Coasting for Kids), and then spend several days relaxing at Virginia Beach. Towards the end of our trip, my wife was experiencing fairly similar symptoms to that first unsuccessful transfer. We were convinced that this attempt had failed as well, and we felt crushed. The Monday after we returned from vacation, we went in for the blood draw pregnancy test. Then, later that night, after the doctor's office left a message on my wife's phone, we sat down to listen to the message together. We prepared for what we thought was another disappointing bout of news. Then, listening to the message, we heard the greatest words of our entire lives - "Congratulations, you are pregnant!!!" I will never forget that moment as long as I live. We instantly broke down into tears of pure joy! Our long journey had finally taken a turn in the right direction, and when we were certain (in our minds) that it wasn't going to happen. It was early of course, but above all else we thought to ourselves, "Hey, we really CAN get pregnant!!" Throughout the early portions of the pregnancy, we endured many scares from bleeding to not hearing the heartbeat at some doctor's appointments. We felt like we were having a record number of "emergency ultrasounds"! But thankfully, things stabilized in the 2nd trimester, and at around 20 weeks, we went in for an ultrasound and discovered that we were having a little GIRL!! We were beyond words at how far we had come in this process, and so incredibly in love with what we have termed as our own little miracle baby. Mom-to-be is feeling pretty good, and our little sweetheart is growing strong and healthy! Due to a condition that developed during the pregnancy, we recently discovered that our bundle of joy is arriving 4 weeks early, via a scheduled C-section at 36 weeks, which is actually a mere 2 WEEKS from today, on January 27th!!! We are so incredibly excited for the arrival of miss Morgan Elizabeth!! I think of this journey, and realize that when I get to hold her in my arms for the first time, there will be no greater feeling in the world. So, that's the wonderful update to our saga, for those who are interested. We cannot wait to enter a whole new part of our journey as we become parents!! Here are a couple (of the many, haha) ultrasound pictures of the soon-to-arrive Morgan!! Our little sweetheart starts growing up! From November, a 3D view of our baby girl!! Thanks so much for reading!! -

Carowinds Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They're really moving along at a quick pace! It's looking great, and I'm pretty stoked to ride it either later this year or, worst case, in 2016. That turnaround and banked drop under the new entrance bridge looks pretty cool, and might be one of the better parts of the ride (aside from the massive first drop, that is). -

The Official TPR Video Thread!
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Nice, thanks! Looks like while there are similarities between the two, they are different layouts. And for the record, Wooden Warrior looks equally awesome! -
The Official TPR Video Thread!
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Shoot, that ride looks pretty awesome for a family wooden coaster! Heck, it looks more fun than many wooden coasters twice that size!! I think Gravity Group really has a winner on their hands with these particular models. What a great way to give a smaller park a bit of a "bang" attraction without putting in something huge that might not fit with the rest of the park. I don't remember - is this the same layout as Wooden Warrior, or something different for Story Land? -
Announcing "Skyline Attractions"
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think you're reading too much into it.....I thought the same thing when I saw the name and logo. Skyline Attractions sounds to me like rides that will impact a park skyline.....and if they're doing that they'd need to be pretty big/tall to become part of said skyline. Definitely a very cool announcement! Always love seeing an innovative group of designers branch out to make some cool attractions on their own. Looking forward to hearing more from these guys! -
I was a big fan of Laser and really wish they would've kept that versus the hand-me-down piece of crap that currently sits there. And I didn't even find Stinger to be that bad of a ride.....but it didn't hold a candle to Laser, and it's an absolute maintenance nightmare for the park. I did like Laser a lot, but for me it's no contest that Talon is the best coaster in this park, hands down. It was right up there as one of my favorite inverts I've ridden, only slightly edged out by Afterburn at Carowinds. Then I rode Banshee, which blew both of those away and now sits as my favorite invert.

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am thoroughly enjoying reading the different speculation in the thread about what this new attraction will be. Seeing footers pop up, and seeing the land they've cleared passing over Voyage, has definitely got me excited to hear what this will be! It seems pretty certain that this will be a coaster, and with any luck it will be steel to complement their three woodies. It does seem that there are signs that may point to a possible B&M, but I'd still love to see a larger scale coaster here in the states from someone like Mack. Their bigger rides overseas look amazing! We'll all find out in a few short weeks! -
Announcing Banshee Bash at Kings Island!
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am beyond excited to say that I purchased my ticket/Fast Lane and will be there for the Bash!! After what seems like forever, I am finally attending an official TPR event!!! With our current financial status (yaaay medical bills.....or not), a full trip wasn't in the cards. But a Bash at a park reasonably close to me? That fits the bill perfectly!! Looking forward to getting together again with some great TPR people......and meeting a whole slew of new ones! -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
PhantomNick replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A little over 3 weeks ago, I ended a fantastic day at the Coasting for Kids event at Kings Dominion by riding Intimidator 305.....in the front row!! Man, was that thing hauling that day! -
Now that the dust has settled from last minute donations, I went ahead and updated the first page of this thread with each park's Team TPR total. Came in pretty much right where Robb had posted earlier at $42,269! I will echo the sentiments of others on here and reiterate how AWESOME this total raised for GKTW really is!! You all should be very proud of yourselves! Thanks again to all of you who participated and supported this wonderful cause! Now, let's do some coasting on Sunday! (or, if at VF, Saturday) I'm really excited for Sunday at KD!! Can't wait to see some of you there! WAY TO GO, TEAM TPR!!!
-
Don't mean to double-post, but we have just ONE HOUR TO GO before the donations deadline!! How are everyone's totals looking? Send out those last minute tweets, Facebook posts, emails, etc. It's not too late to nudge those totals up a bit higher!! SO PROUD of everyone on Team TPR for their dedication and hard work with this, from Robb and Elissa all the way down to each and every team member! You guys are ALL amazing and Coasting for Kids rock stars!! I'll try to run another total shortly after the deadline to see where we ended up. But remember, even though the deadline passes and the "official totals" will be run by GKTW, your page should remain open and accept donations up to the actual event (and possibly for a bit afterwards as well).
-
Wow. Just......WOW!! Simply unbelievable and incredible. The TPR community never ceases to amaze me! I've just finished running our totals again heading into "deadline day", and the results are truly phenomenal!! As of right now, Team TPR has raised a grand total of....... $41,199!!! And there's still even MORE time until the Noon donation deadline tomorrow. At this point, all I can say is that the sky is the limit!! Incredible work by everyone on Team TPR!!
