The official NFL Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to spaceace12's topic in Random, Random, Random
With the grueling schedule they had, my Steelers have had a wonderful season, regardless of how things play out on Sunday. That said however, I do not think their season ends until Feb. 1st in Tampa. My Championship picks: NFC - Philadelphia 27, Arizona 24 AFC - Pittsburgh 20, Baltimore 10 It's going to be an all-PA Super Bowl! GO STEELERS!!! -
My wife is a musical fanatic, and thanks to her I've gotten to finally see some musicals. I have to say, I'm a pretty big fan! The wide variety of stories is very much like movies. You can see something funny, happy, sad, or dark. I've seen a handful of them, and by far my favorite to this point is Wicked. That show was phenomenal in every aspect!! We ended up seeing it twice when it toured through Pittsburgh in September - I loved it that much! Defying Gravity absolutely gave me chills! Tied for second would be Lion King and Avenue Q. Lion King was amazing, and Avenue Q had to be the most hysterical thing I have ever seen! We're seeing Jersey Boys in about a week, and then Rent in April. I would like to see several others - Spamalot, Phantom, Les Miserables, and Miss Saigon, just to name a few.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looking really good so far. That is a pretty steep lift hill they're putting up, especially for a B&M. I'm thinking D-back will be the Must-Ride of 2009, much like RFII was this year. -
Six Flags Great America TR
PhantomNick replied to GriffyTiffy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, looks like they do a really great job with their Fright Fest! That front fountain looks incredible. I really think this park is the hidden jewel of the Six Flags chain. -
Waldameer Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to Millennium ForceJZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great additions to an already wonderful small park! We were very impressed when we visited for the first time in August. And it's funny, as we walked around, we thought the one flat ride they were missing was some kind of wave swinger. Come 2010, they'll get one! Those Disko's are tons of fun too. I love Cosmic Chaos, the one they added at Kennywood in 2007. Definitely looks like RFII did exactly what the owners of Waldameer were hoping, and that's generate some revenue. We know we will certainly be back to visit again. -
Photo TR: Behemoth/Ravine Flyer Trip
PhantomNick replied to natatomic's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Nat, that was a hilarious and fitting end to what was my favorite trip report from the Behemoth/RFII trip! Your last caption had me roll out of my chair laughing. Which, considering I'm at work in my cubicle, certainly raised some eyebrows. After teasing us with a potential bonus park TR, I want to stand up and start yelling "Encore! Encore!" But again, the looks I'd get at work. Those ingrates! And, oh yeah, I almost forgot - SAUCE. Seriously though, great job and some really amazing photos throughout this trip report! Madam, you rock! -
New park China, Happy Valley Chengdu
PhantomNick replied to RonLaan's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Wow. Those MegaLites look just plain SICK! All those yummy Intamin airtime hills - chalked full of airtime deliciousness, I'm sure. The US needs one, and quick! I take it some of you rode one on the Asia trip? Hmmm, Kennywood seems to like more "all age" friendly coasters and tends to avoid inversions. A perfect fit perhaps? Yeah, I know, I'm being selfish......no worry though, as Kennywood probably couldn't afford it anyway. -
Robb, that update of the Korean trip is nothing short of spectacular! Plain and simple, you and your site here pretty much rock. Being pretty new here, I think to myself "what the hell took me so long to join the party?!?" The dedication you and Elissa put into this site is beyond words. We members are a lucky bunch for sure. And that POV from Eagle Fortress?? Oh. My. Freaking. GOD!!

I've heard much of the same, and it sounds like they pull in a pretty healthy attendance number each season. They are pretty much the only game in town when it comes to decent sized amusement parks in Mexico. And I was wondering the same thing about Medusa. Typically, a CCI plus G-trains can equal ouch! I myself was also curious how the Morgan hyper is, and in particular how the airtime is on it.

The Gravity Group's Gravity Cast
PhantomNick replied to a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^^I know I have my eye on that orange hat in their store! The Podcast was quite good, and I am hoping they continue. I've been more than impressed with their work thus far, and it's interesting to hear from them like that. -
Strongest/Most forcefull Launch

From what I've ridden thus far, I'd say it's a tie between Wicked Twister at CP and Speed: TR on the Vegas Strip. -
I can see the Disney ticket people now: "Hmmmm, I must say Mister Sanchez, you look strangely familiar to me......your face looks almost identical to a man who was here 2 days ago!" I have to say, this is a pretty cool promotion by the parks. I've never been to Disney World (or any Disney parks) - yet, but it seems like they have their finger on the pulse of what stellar customer service is all about.

Awesome trip report, thanks for posting it. Plenty of great photos in there, especially some nice up close shots of Hades. Reminds me of many of the photos I snagged during a Voyage photo walk-back at HoliWood Nights in 2007. The Dells is an intriguing place that I figure I will check out at some point. The 2 GG woodies I've been on so far (Voyage and RFII) were both phenomenal, so I'd love to ride their first baby. Although, many seem to think that the real star out there is Avalanche. Looking at those photos, I can see why. -
Your longest hiatus from riding a coaster?
PhantomNick replied to JDo217's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Well, at least that hiatus from coaster riding was well worth it, as I must say that KidTurns looks absolutely adorable! At some point I'd love to meet the whole Alvey crew! For me, the longest break I've had from coaster riding is about 1 year, for an offseason. Typically, I don't necessarily head right to a park when they open up in early May. -
It's no contest for me - spinning mice FTW! Standard mice tend to get boring and repetitive once you've been on a bunch of them, as not too many of them have unique layouts. The beauty of the spinning ones is that no two rides are exactly the same.

Poll: Favorite Inversion?
PhantomNick replied to timetrial3141592's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I went with the Zero G Roll. No matter what the coaster type is, sit down or inverted or floorless or whatever, that inversion is always my favorite! Of the different types of Zero G rolls, I tend to like the inverted coaster ones the best. -
Post your milestone coasters

Officially cracked into triple digits! Thank you business trip for the chance to jaunt off last weekend to Six Flags Great America. My 100th coaster was Raging Bull -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
PhantomNick replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Raging Bull at SF Great America last Sunday. In fact, I ended the night with 5 straight rides on its immense greatness! Seriously though, Raging Bull totally blew me away and blasted its way into my Top 10!! Major yay for a major perk of an annoying week-long business trip to the Chicago area! -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, for the sake of those residents of the Carolinas who will be tackling this "new" coaster, I sure do hope the new trains improve the riding experience. To be honest, when this thing was at Geauga Lake as Head Spin, it rode like garbage! It was far and away the worst boomerang I have ridden (and I typically find them fairly enjoyable at least). As for the name, would we expect anything less from the company that gave us Drop Tower??
