I was very grateful for the sacrifices Robb and Elissa made waiting for fast passes during the 2011 trip. But even with those passes saving time and riding a few exciting coasters, it was just depressing being in the park. It felt more like being in a Chinese park than a Japanese park. -

Analogy: The owner's manual for every new vehicle says that if the check engine light comes on you should take the car it in for servicing ASAP to prevent possible long term damage to the vehicle. This does not mean you have to take the vehicle in immediately, but you can risk long term damage. One park might be willing to take that risk with a 15 year old coaster in cold weather while another park might not take that risk with a newer coaster. No one is certain what the long term effects will be at this point nor how long they could take to appear. There is clearly more to these decisions than guest expectations or worrying about a coaster valleying and I don't know enough about cold metal fatigue to elaborate on my hypothesis. If the locals make the event a success and advocate for more coasters through park feedback things could change in the future. Winterfest (with rides) is a new opportunity for Carowinds (as it is relatively new for CP and even SF). Carowinds will be looking for feedback from attendees to improve the event. Every market is also different, in the late 1980's, Charlotte was the first cities I had heard of throwing a first night event on New Year's Eve for families. So I'm not surprised Carowinds started with family friendly approach to Winterfest. -

Source? "I think Six Flags is one adding Free Spins" is an opinion and therefore the source is his brain. "Six Fags is done adding Free Spins" is a statement. Statements require sources. -

^possible reasons IP and licensing laws could vary between the UK and Italy Leolandia may not have exclusivity with their IP/licensing deal Leolandia's theming may not be approved by the owners of the Peppa Pig IP Leolandia limited use of Peppa Pig in artisitc form may not violate IP laws Just some speculation, from someone who has only taken one law class. -

Tokyo Disney Resort Discussion Thread

http://fortune.com/2017/12/01/tokyo-disney-resort-expansion-frozen/ This article mentions the size of the resort expanding by 30%. My initial thoughts were that it would mean a new gate. However, looking back at a previous press releases, I think the 30% refers the expansions laid out in this article back from 2014. Tokyo Disney Resort's $2.7 Billion Expansion Could Feature a 'Frozen' Attraction By Reuters December 1, 2017 Shares of Oriental Land Co Ltd jumped on Thursday after local media reported plans to spend more than 300 billion yen ($2.7 billion) on a major expansion of its TokyoDisney Resort theme park featuring an attraction based on hit film “Frozen”. The investment would be the amusement park operator’s biggest since spending about 340 billion yen to open Tokyo DisneySea in 2001, the Nikkei business daily reported. Oriental Land is the Japanese operator of the Tokyo Disney Resort, which started with the opening of Tokyo Disneyland in 1983 in Urayasu on the outskirts of Tokyo. The amusement park, featuring attractions such as “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Splash Mountain,” draws in about 30 million visitors annually. The company has started talks with U.S. entertainment firm Walt Disney Co on the expansion plan, the Nikkei reported, without citing sources. Oriental Land plans to expand the resort’s 100 hectare site by about 30 percent and open new attractions around 2023, the newspaper said. The expansion plan is designed to alleviate the amusement park’s chronic congestion, it said. The company will also consider adding an attraction to the expansion based on the Disney animated film “Frozen”, the Nikkei said. In a statement, Oriental Land said it has been planning a major development from its financial year beginning April 2021 and later but that nothing specific has been decided. Shares of Oriental Land rose 3% in morning trade on Thursday, outperforming a 0.2%t decline in the broader TOPIX . -
Coaster Credit

This better not be a thing that people actually do. It is. And there are people who ride a coaster and then won't ride the clone at another park, but will count the clone at the second park as ridden. -

Article in English https://kotaku.com/tokyo-disney-planning-new-amusement-park-in-japan-1820832001 Tokyo Disney Is Planning A New Amusement Park Brian Ashcraft Currently, there are two Tokyo Disney parks: Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. Construction for a third park could start in 2025. The theme might be “Japan.” According to the official release (via Mainichi News), a “Japanese style theme” is being considered to appeal to tourists visiting the country. The park will feature new attractions and new characters with a massive 300 billion yen ($2.7 billion) investment plan. More details should be announced by May 2018. This comes as Osaka’s Universal Studios Japan has surged in popularity, thanks to Harry Potter and Minions attractions as the country’s birth rate has dropped dramatically. USJ is also getting a Mario-themed expansion, which should further the park’s popularity. -

Tbh even the zamperla motocoaster feel more like an actual motorcycle than the spike coaster, did the one at skyline and it's... very ehhhh I know rider's reactions to Sky Dragster weren't great, however, from the beginning stages it sounded like this type of coaster could be easily modified for each installation, so I'm hopeful that themeing can help delivery the proper ride experience. -

Great photos as usual -
SBF Visa Group has 43 currently installations (plus 3 announced for 2018) of their spinning Figure 8 coaster that was on display a few years ago. IMHO being present at the show helped launch the model successfully. Future purchases were influenced not only by word of mouth but the ability to view/ride the coaster during the year displayed on the floor.

According to rcdb there were nine roller coasters that opened 1967. 3 are still standing where they were built 3 were relocated 3 no longer exist -
To add a little more to my trip yesterday. I also tried the waffle and had a slightly netter experience than Bill. When I got to the register the waffle was prepared and took practically the same amount of time as it did from Waffle de Lys last year and the same amount of time as Waffle de Lys and Kennywood this summer. The only issue I encountered was confusion over the price of a topping. The sign I posted earlier says it is $3 extra for a signature creation and $1 for either nutella, hot fudge, sugar, other options. The cashier seems to be confused about the different costs of upcharges, but ultimately only charged $1. To me it appeared they used the same batter that is used in the funnel cakes with extra sugar added, but my major issue for me was the texture of the waffle, which was not crispy enough. However, I did really enjoy using the meal plan to option a good snack for $1. Waffle de Lys was never meant to be a permanent vendor at the park. They were brought in the first year with other vendors, to due lack of staff in the food area for the first year of the event. Last year it was a last minute decision to bring them back to the event. Spirit of the Season is a good time filler providing a place to sit down with your hot chocolate and get off your feet. It is a singing and dancing revue featuring 8 performers and a variety of holiday songs. I did not see the next Kelly Clarkson or Teri Garr in the cast but they gave a solid effort. There seemed to be much more holiday merchandise around the park for sale this year. As Bill mentioned, the addition of season long hot chocolate special souvenir cup is a great value if you plan a few visits. I inquired about the success of Justice League and there if were concerns that it was at the end of a dead end path. Over the course of the season some newer guests had expressed surprise that a ride was after Batman. But the park was very happy about the lack of downtime for the ride and the benefit of having another indoor attraction during HITP. One last thing, although it was not stated outright it was implied that with the addition of Cyborg Cyber Spin, the park will continue with future rides along the old Old Country path leading to a potential re-opening of the path. Maybe not next year, but that's where I see this going.

Here are some pictures I took from tonight's Media Event for the start of Holiday in the Park. I did not ride any coasters as I was not feeling well. I did try two new food items at the park. The Salted Caramel Pretzels were better tasting than they sounded. I used tried the waffles, there is a stand exclusively for waffles right next to the Old Country path on the way to Justice League. For those who complain about Gale Force being too rough for a $14 coaster, the annual 50% off sale has started. So your rides will only cost $7 if you purchase tickets prior to December 22nd. You are still free to complain even if you only pay $7. https://oceancityfun.com/ticket-sales/
