  1. Except for the slower operations, this is the coaster size where the experience can be enhanced with VR.
  2. Somehow, I missed this news over the summer. Hopefully, they follow through and build a new and improved one funhouse for 2019.
  3. Sounds like you have to make a choice between two high costs places Coney Island and Wildwood. To ride the coasters and the unique stuff "Spook House (refurbed in 2012) and Wonder Wheel" at Deno's you probably need 90-120 minutes. Once prices are listed you might find it more economical for the 4 hours wrist band (vs. ala carte) even if only using it for 90 minutes. That early in the AM, you will not encounter lines, but may have to wait a extra two or three minutes if they try to fill trains. At Morey's you will also want to cost out the all you can ride versus the ala carte costs. When planning remember to pay attention to operating times for each pier. At that time of day 2-2.5 hours is reasonable to get from Coney Island to Casino Pier Regarding the other parks. Casino Pier - You won't need 2 hours there, just 15 minutes to ride Hydrus Playland's Castaway Cove (Ocean City) - You need to ride the Tropical Storm flat ride, an absolute must. This parks runs great flat ride cycles. Gillians Wonderland (Ocean City) - their Runaway Mine Train is a great family coaster, but the park has unique flats to the area Super Flipping Arm and ARM Drop Tower Moreys Piers - I'll leave coasterbill and boldikus to list specifics, but Ghost Ship is a must. The Wildwood boardwalk also had many unique places to visit. Casino Pier, PCC and Wonderland are all considered overpriced but have 50% off sales the week before Easter, so you can half your costs if you plan ahead. Included only because you asked about uniqueness Keansburg has one of the oldest pretzel dark rides and has recently been refurbed. They also still have an operating Chaos. But not worth stopping for the coasters. Jenkinson's again not worth stopping for the coaster, but they have a good walk through fun house.
  4. Who are these people? Employees or guests?
  5. Possible trips Besides day trips to SFGAdv, SFNE/Storyland*, Sesame Place* and Knoebels Trip 1 (Drive) March 30 - April 7th KD BGW* Carowinds SFoG SeaWorld BGT FunSpot* Trip 2 (Drive) early July Cedar Point Kings Island Kentucky Kingdom Kennywood Knoebels Hersheypark Trip 3 (Fly) early August Fly to San Antonio for (Sea World, SFFT, ZDT*) Fly to Los Angeles (SeaWorld, KBF, Universal, SFMM, Disney, as I think I have one day left on an old hopper) Fly to San Francisco (SFDK, CGA*, SCBB) The parks with asterisks are parks with wooden coasters I have yet to ride. If I ride all 6, I'm down to 3 wooden coasters in the US. A goal I set for myself about 15 years ago.
  6. Because I loved to keep this thread simmering. No new delays and nothing new on the amusements front, just the owner's thoughts on how his retail complex will hold up in the face of rising e-commerce. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/ghermezian-family-new-mall-new-jersey-1.4478295 Ghermezians build massive U.S. destination mall, despite rising e-commerce Xanadu or Xana-don't? Canadian developer confidently restarts abandoned N.J. project to build American Dream Dianne Buckner · CBC News · January 10 The U.S. has far too many malls for the e-commerce era. By one estimation, one in three is expected to close within the next decade. But the Canadian family behind the West Edmonton Mall has started construction on a colossal, three million square-foot shopping and entertainment complex, across the Hudson River from Manhattan. It's called American Dream. "The location is second to none," boasts Don Ghermezian, inside the company's modern office near the construction site in New Jersey. Born in Edmonton, Don is the grandson of Jacob Ghermezian, an Iranian rug merchant who came to Canada in the early 1960s with his wife and four sons. In addition to West Edmonton, the biggest mall in North America, the family-owned Triple Five Group is also behind the second largest: Mall of America in Minneapolis. This latest project isn't quite as big as those, but it's bigger in ambition: it will feature North America's only indoor ski hill, a Lego Discovery Centre, a Dreamworks-branded water park and several other large-scale attractions. Plus there will be over 400 stores — Saks, Hermes, Zara and Lululemon have signed lease agreements, among others. Too many malls already A number of industry observers however, view the development as a highly risky gamble. "This is an expression of 'if we build it, they will come,'" says Mark Cohen, director of retail studies at Columbia University in New York and former chief executive of Sears Canada until 2004. Cohen points to the growth of online shopping as just one factor that's keeping consumers away from malls. There is also a "grotesque amount of excess retail space" in the U.S., he says. China and Dubai have indoor ski hills. Don Ghermezian says American Dream will have the first in North America. (American Dream) One study concluded that the number of shopping centres grew at twice the pace the population did between 1970 and 2015. Don Ghermezian isn't fazed by naysayers. "I agree, there are way too many malls in this country," he says. But he insists American Dream isn't a mall at all. It's an exciting destination that tourists from all over the world and local residents will seek out. "Truth be told, I don't think that a developer anywhere in the world has put together the type of project that we have here at American Dream," he proclaims proudly. 'Ugliest building in the state' The New Jersey complex has a troubled past. The development started life in 2004 as Xanadu, and before long was dubbed 'Xana-don't', when the original developer collapsed during the financial crisis of 2008. A second company also struggled and failed to bring the complex to life. It sat stalled and unfinished — metal girders rusting — for five long years. Situated next door to the sports complex that's home to the New York Jets and Giants, Xanadu was a humongous eyesore. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie once called it "the ugliest building in the state, if not all of America." But the governor was full of optimism when the Ghermezians' company, Triple Five Group, took it over in 2014. Goldman Sachs was hired to sell $1.1 billion in bonds, and a construction loan of $1.8 billion was arranged. Construction restarted in 2016. 'The swamp of New Jersey' Not everyone in New Jersey is thrilled though, according to Jon Whiten of New Jersey Policy Perspective, a local think-tank. The project received a $390-million tax break, the largest in the state's history. "Folks in New Jersey have raised and continue to raise pretty legitimate questions about why is the state in the business of propping up what appears to be just another mall," he says, noting that most of the jobs American Dream will create will be for low-paid retail clerks. One of the large-scale attractions at the American Dream complex will be a Dreamworks-branded water park. (American Dream) Like Mark Cohen, he doubts that visitors will make the trek across the Hudson River. "I don't see why someone coming to New York City, which is arguably the most exciting city in the world, would take the time to leave the city and go find this kind of destination out in the swamp of New Jersey. I love the swamp of New Jersey, but I don't see the market there." Don Ghermezian insists American Dream is not just another shopping centre. "I'm not a believer in malls," he declares. "I've actually forbidden people in my company to use the word mall. We are the opposite of mall." 'Experiential' retail He notes that most malls are about 80 per cent retail, 20 per cent entertainment — "pseudo-entertainment" at that, according to Ghermezian, who believes restaurants and cinemas or bowling alleys don't cut it with today's consumers. The split at American Dream is closer to 50-50, and the non-retail half features attractions such as a SeaLife aquarium, an NHL-sized rink, and one of the first U.S. locations for KidZania, an interactive city made for children that's expanding around the globe. Ghermezian says the retail experience will be unique as well. One tenant is building a fashion show runway that comes out of the floor. Another is spending almost $6 million on a digital service that allows shoppers to try on clothing via a virtual mirror instead of actually changing into the items. The formula is designed to win back shoppers who are increasingly going online. "You can't go to a water park on Amazon, you can't go to a theme park online," Ghermezian points out. And he says close to half of the 62 million tourists who visit Manhattan every year bring children. "After one day in New York City, after you've gone to the Empire State building the Statue of Liberty and Central Park, what do you do with the children?" With opening day set for March 2019, the construction crew will grow from 1,500 workers to 5,000 by the end of this year. Do people in New Jersey even realize that the American Dream is being built by Canadians? "They will sooner or later," says Ghermezian, with a smile. "Once the project opens up, they'll realize this can only be the workings of one family. It's Triple Five. It's Ghermezians."
  7. I'm guessing you mean forgettable. Yes, I meant forgettable. Of course. my opinion is going to differ from locals that have an emotional attachment. Just like I feel differently about the Cyclone at Coney Island than many one time riders.
  8. I did not find Roller Coaster to be exciting when I rode it in 2016. I do not remember any air to speak of. I remember hitting the side of the car hard on one of the turns. I can't imagine new trains ruining a ride that is pretty much unforgettable.
  9. It's great to hear about the other options on the boardwalk. Whether it be the food, brewpubs, arcades, fascination, mini-golf or go karts it is all part of the Wildwood ecosystem. A huge part of the Morey experience is the boardwalk. The piers and the boardwalk are intrinsically linked and visiting Morey Pier, without doing anything else on the boardwalk means you are missing the experience.
  10. The park generally opens the week of NY and NJ public school spring break, NYC schools are closed week of April 2nd. Could Saturday, March 31st be a park buyout that is just not listed on the calendar? Pfizer has done park buyouts very early in the season in previous years.
  11. I think using Coaster at Playland PNE, Vancouver would be much better to use in the analogy than Timberhawk.
  12. Thanks, sounds like the equivalent of Cedar Fair's Dinosaurs Alive attractions.
  13. As we have seen there are plenty of these unique. low capacity messed up coasters that live in rural German parks, that have never made it to America.
  14. I don't want this poll to just be a carbon copy of the Mitch poll. To be honest, I always thought it was a little stupid all those mediocre similar rides were included in his poll to begin with and I think I didn't even bother voting for "My Favorite Boomerang" or whatever it was, because IMO it was sort of dumb. I'll ask Chase what he wants to do. I'm honestly fine with either decision, but would lean towards not including them or only including ones that are significantly different if that was an option. Again, remember, I'd prefer this poll to be a bit more focused on what really are the best coasters and not being an overall list of "all credits." Winja's and Dragon's Fury were Top 20 steel coasters for me when they were in Mitch's poll, at least 50 spots higher than standard Maurer spinners. I still can't believe no other park asked for that big horseshoe at the beginning of the ride that Dragon's Fury has.
  15. But, unless you have a minimum of $100 million, what you think doesn't really matter on this topic.
  16. 1) http://coaster-count.com/ Does a very good job keeping up with new coasters, and overtook coastercounter in that regard years ago. 2) I suspect Robb has no interest in helping people track all the kiddie coasters they have ridden
  17. I was finally able to move the coasters up out of the grey box. But it was difficult to execute out as it seems there was only a very narrow unlabeled amount of space to "drop" the dragged item. However, when in the ranking area, when I try to move a coaster towards the top, I can't scroll all the way to the top of the list. When I drag a coaster to the top of the screen the number ranking automatically changes to 1.
  18. Ok, that makes more sense. I'm on Firefox I have the single arrow No number to the right Doesn't save after I move coasters
  19. When revisiting the site today, this does make it much more difficult to find the coasters I have ridden. Maybe consider an option to sort by park or alphabetically as you are selecting your ridden coasters
  20. OK, that makes sense, I can go back to the saved "ridden" page and remove. Perfect
  21. It looks great so far. I haven't tried moving coaster rankings yet. The home page - at the end of Section 1 riddne should be ridden. PortAventura not PortAdventura Casey coaster at DLP is listed twice I noticed rexplorer at Mirabilandia listed, but it is a powered coaster. There will be people that have ridden all coasters at a particular park, is there a way to check ridden for the whole park, instead of having to check individually. After you get to the ranking portion if you realize that you included a coaster that you didn't ride, is there a way to remove it without starting over?
  22. You're going to love Knoebels. Flying Turns is okay. When you get to the station, they'll ask you how many are riding, and you'll get on a scale. They'll tell you where to sit based on weight. They don't have you sit with strangers.
  23. I used to fly into and out of KC regular for business and I always seem to get stuck in a terminal with extremely limited services. I have flown into Orlando numerous times over the years and have always considered it one of the best. Have you real seen "a lot" of people complaining lately.
