Tragic Ferris wheel accident in India.
larrygator replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^Dave, thanks for the post, but I'm removing the link to the accident. I don't think anyone NEEDS to watch a child fall to her death on a ride while on TPR. -
Child falls off Idlewild roller coaster
larrygator replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
These are the old requirements: The park currently operates two coasters -- Rollo Coaster, with a height requirement of 36 inches, and Wild Mouse, which has a 48-inch requirement. Cars on the Rollo Coaster do not include seat belts. Riders who are under 48 inches must be accompanied by an adult. The 265 pound weight limit per row is new and serves to limit the total train weight, since the new trains are much heavier than the old trains. -
I am loving the brevity of KT's answers!

If you are renting a car, always check off-airport locations. You are paying a premium using the airport location since they have 24/7 overhead costs. But make sure the location is open when you are traveling and see if they offer airport passenger pick-up and drop-off. If not consider using Uber/Lyft before regular car/taxi service. Last year I could not get a rental from O'Hare for less than $500 a week, an off-site Hertz, allowed me to rent for $210. Uber from airport to Hertz was $30 each way. Flat fee, a cab wanted $65 one way from the airport. In you have to fly in and out of two different airports to save $100-$200 per ticket do it, but if your rental car company wants to charge an exorbitant fee for dropping off at a different airport, drop off at the original airport and Uber between airports. Florida does not have rental cars drop off fees between locations in Florida. Provides flexibility in seeking the best airfare. Airport parking - never park for more than 7 days if you can get a combination of rides from friends/Uber to the airport. For my next trip to California I decided to try Airbnb. I'll be spending less than $40 per night, versus an average of $65 per night that I could have saved after perusing all discount sites. If you gamble at Harrah's properties and have a players card, they are very liberal about offering free nights when you try to book online the first time. If you continue to try booking, but did not gamble on a prior visit they will only offer a discounted rate the next time. The casinos are not always perfect hubs for multiple night stays but may be along your route between two parks. For smaller non-chain parks (always search "park name" "discounts") as local retailers may have discounts not on the park website, also search for "customer appreciation days" many small parks have them towards the end of summer with discounted tickets, but the offer is not easily found on the park websites.

I headed out to the park for a few hours yesterday before a Memorial Day BBQ. Arrived at 11:30 in a light drizzle/heavy fog, and only KingdaKa/Zumanjaro were closed. The crowds were very light. I went straight to Justice League and rode 8 times (some guns were giving problems last week, this time no issues). The ride ops were a little off though, making odd grouping decisions. (Example: Taking two riders from the regular line and putting them in one row of a car and sending it, while others were waiting in the regular, single rider and fast pass lines.) All food locations looked to be staffed properly. Ordered a grilled chicken/applewood bacon/ranch sandwich (knowing it usually takes longer for grilled chicken) and it only took three minutes from the Metro Grill. Did Nitro three times as a walk-on with re-rides in open rows)? Walk-on for Batman, one train wait for Joker, then two walk-on rides for El Toro (which only had one train in service). I don't know if they started the day with two days,

The more telling statistics with SeaWorld are not just in the one year or Q1 numbers. Compare the 2008 and 2017 figures. SeaWorld Orlando 2008 - 6.2MM SeaWorld Orlando 2017 - 4.0MM SeaWorld California 2008 - 4.8MM SeaWorld California 2017 - 3.1MM Disney is clearly king so let's compare to Universal's figures Universal Studios Orlando 2008 - 6.1MM Universal Studios Orlando 2017 - 10.2MM Universal IOA 2008 - 5.2MM Universal IOA 2017 - 9.5MM Universal Studios Hollywood 2008 - 4.6MM Universal Studios Hollywood 2017 - 9.0MM

More will be known after the final paperwork is signed in June. Until that time, whatever anyone says is speculation. -
Frontier City will be rejoining the Six Flags family. Although the article announces the acquisition of five parks, please only discuss Frontier City in this thread. Click here to discuss Darien Lake Click hear to discuss the impact on Six Flags Corporate https://finance.yahoo.com/news/six-flags-adds-five-more-201000971.html Six Flags Adds Five More Parks to US Portfolio May 22, 2018 GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (SIX), the world’s largest regional theme park company, today announced it has entered into a purchase agreement with affiliates of Premier Parks, LLC to acquire the lease rights to operate five parks owned by EPR Properties (EPR). The parks have previously been operated by Premier Parks, LLC of Oklahoma City. These latest acquisitions will expand the company’s portfolio of North American parks to twenty-five. “Today’s announcement represents another milestone in our strategic North-American growth initiative to seek out park acquisitions that expand our addressable market,” said Six Flags Chairman, CEO, and President, Jim Reid-Anderson. “These are all fantastic properties that complement our existing portfolio and provide tremendous added value and cross-visitation opportunities for our extensive Membership and Season Pass base.” The parks joining the Six Flags family are: Wet n’ Wild Splashtown, Houston’s largest waterpark, with more than 48 lush acres and a wide selection of thrilling waterslides and attractions, along with two children’s areas; Wet n’ Wild Phoenix, the largest waterpark in Arizona (located in the Adobe Dam Recreation Area), featuring 35 acres of high-speed slides and two pools, and also offering a Wet n’ Wild Jr. section with kid-friendly versions of some of the park’s most thrilling attractions; Darien Lake near Buffalo, NY, a beautiful resort property located on approximately 1,000 acres that includes a theme park, waterpark, campground, hotel, and a 21,000-seat amphitheater; Frontier City, an iconic part of the Oklahoma City landscape, is steeped in tradition. The park features a western theme and offers an extensive lineup of exciting rides, attractions, and shows geared to every member of the family; and White Water Bay, near Frontier City, a tropical oasis with more than 25 acres of waterslides, interactive water play areas, and pools. Six Flags is the largest regional theme park operator in the world and upon closing of the transactions, will be the largest waterpark operator in North America. With the addition of these five properties that entertained approximately two million guests in 2017, there will be an additional 20 million guests within a 100-mile radius of a Six Flags park, significantly expanding the company’s national footprint. “We are thrilled to welcome these outstanding properties and employees into our family of parks and look forward to sharing the thrill of Six Flags with guests of all ages in these key markets,” added Reid-Anderson. Closing of the transactions contemplated by the agreement is expected to occur in June, 2018 and is subject to customary closing conditions.

It appears Bazyliszek is a trackless, custom made shooting dark ride. An interesting investment for a small park. -

I just saw this on Screamscape and was curious also. -
Even with it being a Bring a Friend Day, I decided to head to the park this morning. I was a little worried seeing many buses and signs regarding Catholic Youth Day. I was worried, not because I fear buses or Young Catholics, but I just wanted to get as many rides in as possible in 2 hours. I did not realize they reduced the numbers of metal detectors to add what appeared to be x-ray machines for the bags (when did this happen?). However, it appeared those x-ray machine lines were moving quickly. I made it to El Toro about 10 minutes after the park opened and rode the same train for about 15 rides, changing rows when someone was waiting for my row. The ride ops (Nick, Sam and Justin) were quick especially with so few people waiting to board. We were dispatched in less the 60 seconds repeatedly. I think on my rides they only had to check lap bars a second time for only one person and no one accidentally sat down without buckling their seat belt. I far exceeded my goal of 6 rides on the bull this morning. I got my Orange Cream soda from the Freestyle Machine and ate a cheesesteak at Boardwalk steaks. Service has been very quick all three times this year, but the overall quality of the cheese and steak seems to have slipped since last year, but the bread is still top notch. I rode Justice League twice (10 minute wait using single rider lane) and both rides I had issues with the guns. The first ride my gun just stooped working about 3/4 of the way through the game, no beam came out and the gun did not vibrate. During my second ride the ride again stopped firing about halfway through the ride. However, by the end of the ride I could feel the vibration when pulling the trigger but still no beam. Quite a bummer, since I love that game. On the way out of the park, I got a waffle. The waffle is still heavy, but more flavorful than the last time I tried it. I almost stopped but the membership center to better understand what the difference is between my loaded platinum season pass (all parks parking/food/drink bottle) and the membership but I was in a rush. I think the only difference is the dedicated entrance lines for memberships at opening. I must investigate before I repurchase at the end of this season.

Ghost Town In The Sky Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
http://wlos.com/news/local/ghost-town-coming-back-to-life Ghost Town in the Sky is reportedly in the final stages of being sold, and the potential new owners are discussing a possible Spring 2019 re-opening. Ghost Town coming back to life? by Raphael Pires Monday, May 14th 2018 MAGGIE VALLEY, N.C. (WLOS) — There could soon be new owners for a once popular mountain amusement park. Ghost Town Village in Maggie Valley is in the final stages of being sold. Ghost Town Adventures, a recently created company, hopes to restore the park to its former glory, with some modern twists. Valerie Oberle, Ghost Town Adventures executive vice president of brand and people management, said the company hopes to reopen the defunct amusement park next spring. Oberle said they plan to bring back many of the classic old western attractions, but also add an alpine coaster and 3D attraction. Ghost Town Village owner Alaska Pressley struggled for years trying to get the park up to code. The park was scheduled to open June 1, 2016, but that didn't happen. Presley re-branded the park as an Appalachian Village, but eventually closed it for good and put it up for sale in 2016. The park, which has has 250 acres, 40 buildings and plenty of parking, was listed for $5.95 million. Many people in Maggie Valley believe, because of some of the Ghost Town Adventures' executive's backgrounds with Disney, things will be different this time. "Mickey Mouse has been with us for generation after generation and he's reinvented himself over and over and over,"Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce president Dave Angel said. "He knows how to honor the past, and he knows how to move forward with the future and I think these guys bring that with them." Angel said if the park is successful, it will have a positive impact in the town. "Its definitely going to be an economic boom if it even comes close to what it used to be," Angel said. Legends Sports Grill owner Jim Pfaff agrees with Angel. "It will create a lot of excitement for a lot of different folks that have come and visited over the years. But I think, especially for the locals, it's going to be a fantastic thing," Pfaff said. "And of course for all the business owners." Angel said many people are excited about the idea of Ghost Town reopening. "So many people have memories of their childhood, being here, climbing the mountain in the chair lift, seeing the gun fights, and they want to bring their kids back so their kids can experience the same thing that they did as a child," Angel said. Oberle said the plan is to have a preview opening day before Labor Day. Oberle didn't give an exact figure but said the remodel will cost millions of dollars. -

The only strange results to me are Mine Blower and the absence of Galaxyland's Mind Bender . MineBlower was fun but I think we have a case of new car smell. AJ - Did Mindbender at Edmonton have enough riders to qualify? -

Energylandia Park Discussion Thread

This whole situation is quite unusual in that TPR does not normally start/support a Park Discussion Thread for a park that none of our members have reported on.
