  1. On the contrary, Magic Mountain can still add a B&M hyper, not solely on the bases of a coaster capital race. From bothe a marketing and enthusiast standpoint, it would still create a completely different ride experience than that of Goliath. IMHO Goliath emphasizes G-force while B&M's tend to emphasize airtime. I tink the new trains are cool LOOKING, but I can't say that they're any better than the old ones because I have not yet ridden them. It is nice though to see that the engineers are still trying to find ways to perfect perfection in a sense.
  2. ^Yosemite Sam's boat ride is a damn good ride and I'm very jealous Magic Mountain doesn't have one.
  3. The cell phone was as visible on that station as the interlocking corkscrews...whoops. I said I wouldn't say which ride. Oh well.
  4. Damn good stuff. I can't wait to see the rest.
  5. Well who can deny that family rides can't turn a park around? Most of them are high capacity, attractive to all ages, and create a ginuine park experience. Let's all face it, how many times have we seen people left and right for being too big, or too tall or whatever. I find how wild poorly themed wild mouse coasters are going to make up for not adding more dark rides with less rider restrictions, or theming. Just an honest question, Would you rather see 7 million dollars spent on a wild mouse coaster, or a heavily themed Sally Dark Ride?. I think if Six Flags really and truly want to go after families the way they say they do, they need Pirates of the Caribbean/Toy Story Mania type rides that look like they at least tried to put effort into them. I hope that what they're putting in now are just stepping stone to building those dark rides and themed boat rides that seem to work so well in other parks.
  6. Operator at a ride's secondary panel (I won't say which ride) charging phone in plain sight. Another ride's panel operator stacking due to obvious texting. What really caught me off guard was the blatent cell phone just sitting on the station charging. I mean there's a smart way of not following the rules, and there's the not so smart way. This operator chose the flat out idiot's way.
  7. Went to the park on Monday. There are still some bad seeds to weed out.
  8. If I quote Bart Simpson for a second, (to make the quote relevant, sub "parenting" with "managing") "Homer, your attempt of half-assed over parenting won't make up for years and years of half-assed under parenting". According to Shapiro's logic, spending more than 20 million dollars on a ride is taboo. That's all fine and dandy but does that make it safe to assume that he's ALSO opposed to spending 100 million on a "Expedition Everest type" ride? Maverick is more family friendly than any of Magic Mountain's headliners, and guess what? It cost exactly as much as Tatsu did! The fact of the matter is, If you want to shun coaster craving teens and "appeal" to families, adding D-list coasters are one of the worst ways to do it. Subbing 20 million dollar rides with 8 million dollar rideswon't bring the families-not by itself and not by corporate tie-ins. Especially when the tie-ins are appealing to the group you're trying to cut the ties with (i.e. Tony Hawk, Batman, Terminator, etc) Ask yourself THIS question, how family friendly are these milder rides? After riding both THBS at SFoT an FT, they're really uncomfortable for larger people of the family. I am about 6'2'', and leg room is sacrificed greatly on these type rides. Family rides shouldn't mean "everyone except dad". That's what it means to our friend Mark, though.
  9. Maybe their press release will be just like Sidewinder at Knott's. Ah yes, the classic "C'mon in, we're open now". on opening day.
  10. I will admit that their is a ton of potential for this park, but that may require the management team to go back to the lab a few times. Upping the coaster count would help. Some may not think so, but look at it this way. Take Knott's Berry farm for example. Take out Ghostrider, Xcelerator, Silver Bullet, Pony Express, Sierra Sidewinder, Jaguar, Zoom,Supreme Scream, Perilous Plunge and the Log Ride. What are we left with? A County Fair at best. I'm not saying that HRP blows even more than a Fair by any means. I'm simply trying to establish that the reasons that ANYONE goes to amusement parks is because of rides. No one can deny that. However. not every park can afford to put it a record breaking coaster. But for a park to be in a location like Myrtle Beach, they're going to have to do something to turn heads.
  11. ^And can travel through time both forward AND backward.
  12. Weird to see the ops were not "trigger happy" with the e-stop as most ops in America would be (nod to Knott's Berry Farm)
  13. If X had the same fog effect as Iron Dragon it would look alot better, but the fact that X is slightly faster that may be an issue.
  14. Deja Vu, followed very closely by Firehawk.
  15. I can;t really find any coaster that I've ridden to be a let down. That is not to say that I haven't been on my share of crappy coasters, but I expect different things from different rides. Perfect example is Sierra Sidewinder at Knott's Berry Farm. Fun little ride, but was forgotten about two weeks after it opened. It does deliver however, in the sense that it fits in well with the type of park Knott's is, not every ride can be Millenium Force and not every park can be Magic Mountain. If you can try to look at situations in that light, you might find thinkgs enjoyable you once complained about.
  16. Before I was an enthusiast, I went to SFMM back in 2002. I was a group chaperone, and the kids I was watching wanted to ride Goliath. I waited two hours in line and didnt know what for! Talk about the GP in me! Point is, take your mind off of it, you'd be surprised what you can accomplish with the right mindset. Besides, when me and some friends went to Cedar Point last year one them sat out for everything at CP except MF and TTD. We still make fun of him to this day. Flying halfway across the country to sit around is very regrettable
  17. I haven't paid to get into Disney for quite some time now, so that brings the one day one park total to??? Does this also effect one day park hopper?
  18. ^^^Colorization does not always have to agree with the ride theme (I.E. Silver Bullet KBF, Superman SFMM etc)
  19. 1. Batman, SFMM- Intense, compact, and plenty of directional changes that make it the best B&M I've ridden period. 2 (tied) all other Batman clones-I think MM's runs a little rougher than most, but who doesn't like it a little rough every now and again? 3. Silver Bullet, KBF- One of B&M's tamer rides, I guess to make it family friendly, but with a 54'' height requirement. Helix at the end pulls nice G's Not worth more than a 15 minute wait. 4. Raptor, CP- Okay, kinda boring layout, but with CP staffing, ride is a capacity monster. 5. More Batman clones.
  20. ^I worked at DCA when I was 18. We were told in orientation that "people turn their brains off on vacation, so be prepared for anything". That statement continues to hold true every day. I go to the Dodgers game last night and my mom calls me Mom: Hey Eric, where are you? Me: I'm at the Dodgers game. Mom: Where? I felt embarrassed for the both of us.
  21. First drop is kick butt, the sharp right turn after that is not so kind to the jaw, but overall awesome ride.
  22. Even to this day I wonder if the fire effect was a good fit for the ride. It looks cool and everything, but for a park that has an average temperature of 100 degrees in the summer, it can get a little uncomfortable.
  23. ^ I think that's the most excited I've ever been to see a 3 ft. pole in the ground!
  24. I can't remember where I heard it, but I caught a listen somewhere that Valleyfair would get a B&M invert in either 09 or 10. Sad that they can still sell the inverts, but not a single stand up has moved since 99!
