^That's true. Not everyone knows (much less cares) about potential, or kinetic energy. The average person does not know the dynamics of rollercoaster design so you can't blame them for asking a question like that. It may have been a first for him. Now if he asked that if Cedar Creek Mine Ride was Dragster, that would fall into this category.

Sorry, I typed this whole long lecture on how I felt about the off topic posting, but that earthquake right now kinda screwed that up. here's the whole thing in a nutshell. I know that the architects who built this site from the ground up don't want it "tarnished" or flooded with stupidity. I mean, there's enough stupidity in the world already, so why bring it here? I get that and agree with it totally 100%. But when it gets to the point that opinions are abridged or invalidated, then that defeats the purpose of a "forum" and is no longer a forum by definition. I know not everyone is as coaster saavy as others, not does everyone have the same "facts". But its when you bring that cluster of what you, me and this guy knows do we try to find whats really the issue. Sometimes that takes 14 pages of what a few people thinks is stupid. After all if a stupid topic can span 14 pages, it may not be that stupid after all. You have my word, that this will be the last INTENTIONAL off topic post in this, or any board on this site. -Eric

Theme Park Review POSTING RULES!
Bolliger&Mabillard replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hey! I just went over the rules one more time. I read them when I first joined, but it never hurts to brush up on the fundamentals. I know I may be very opinionated as some of you may already know, so if anyone notices I become "annoying" (hoping I never do!) please feel free to give me a reality check. I'm still pretty new to this site and still learning how it works, so I'm always welcome to advise and constructive critizism. -
(When I first got certified for Riddler's Revenge on a rainy day...) My Lead: Someone's gotta safety ride so we can open (no one volenteers) Me:Aw hell, I'll do it! Babies! My Lead: Go for it Me:(as i come back) Don't I feel like quite the idiot! Moral of the story is, raindrops sting like a bitch at 70 MPH.

Roughest coaster
Bolliger&Mabillard replied to jbuck's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Texas Giant is exactly the same experience, except taller, faster, longer, and because of all those factors adds pain. -
^I guess the way people see it is as long as they're not corraled in switchback chains or zigzag poles then it's not "as bad" as actually waiting "in line". I'm just guessing but people who wait at the gate from 8 in the mornig probably don't link the two wait times together-they just see it as waiting for the PARK to open... Even if they do intend to be the first on X.

Roughest coaster
Bolliger&Mabillard replied to jbuck's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've said it before, I'm saying it now, and I will continue to say it until I die or something rougher takes its place (whichever is first) Texas Giant at SFoT is a wooden nightmare forged, boarded and bolted by the devil himself. -
^Thats moreso what I meant. I didnt know if I should make a new topic or add to the MM thread. I don't really do TR's very often so to save someone the trouble of moving it, I just thought I'd ask before I post it

I was planning on going to SFMM tomorrow and was wondering which board would be best to place a Trip report?

^You make excellent points, but what I'm saying is that in order to get your crew to feed into a system, they have to be there first. Then they have to want to be there. Some kids that work there do a pretty damn good job, but we all know that even one bad seed can screw it up for everybody. How often do we hear orange tags brag about them "not needing this crappy job" or "not getting paid enough for this". Sure adults do it too, but its not as common. Yes other parks have to deal with issues such as call-ins, early dismissals, and reducing capacity, but the sense of urgency and responsibilty a 22 year old may have is distinctively different from that of a 16 year old. Remember, I'm not saying that this will solve the age old mystery to morale and lack of staffing, but it is a factor to look at and consider. Eric

^That's pretty on point for ball park numbers. Concept ideas for discussion. Drop the minors. Here's some vital issues that MM has to face every day. *Minors can only work for 7 hours a day. *Minors going over meal violations have steeper fines than adults going over *Adults who have bills are slightly more dependable and apt to working than a 16 year old who works for the "extra cash". *If you scheduled those same six people for Tatsu with a breaker and they were all at least 18, you're set for the day. That's how Knott's does it and that practice seems to hit more than it misses. Many other parks that higher their operators at older ages tend to have less problems with staffing. I'm not saying Disney or Knott's has perfect attendance with their employees, but these parks seem to be better staffed.

All the photos were pimp, but the best one was when you caught the train going up the top hat with the blurred background. That one is EXTRA PIMP! -

That's how we cleaned Riddler's after puke. Hose it one cycle, wipe it one cycle, cycle once to dry. Any other way is uncivilized! -
Silverwood Discussion Thread
Bolliger&Mabillard replied to Damien666's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^I don't know about that. They got Corkscrew and Aftershock practically off of "eBay", so unless GADv gets tired of Kingda Ka and sells it for less than what Inamin wants for a new one, it's gonna be hard. On a side note, though it relates to the above mentioned, I read a report from IAAPA the park paid $3 million for this ride which included dismantling it, transporting it, and reassembling it on site. Though obviously not impossible, It's not likely Silverwood will get a ride of this magnitude at that cheap of a price.
