PTR: Bill's Epic 3 Weeks in China w/TPR!
Nrthwnd replied to Nrthwnd's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^ and all above (thanks EB!) I got to actually see this bamboo scaffolding years and years ago, at our (EXPO) World's Fair in 1986. The Hong Kong Pavillion was totally covered (see pix below) in bamboo, with workers changing the setup daily, to show the different techniques of doing this kind of scaffolding. It was fascinating to watch them scramble up and across the framework. As it looked, the day the pic was taken. On the building it does say HONG KONG. The pavillion with Hong Kong Rep in front. (o: -
TPR 2013 Tours Announced!
Nrthwnd replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ It was closed down the last TPR tour (2011), but several got the credit in, because the maintenance closure didn't start till one day after the start of the (then) tour. So they showed up a day early and did TDL the day just before the "official start" of that tour. Fortunately, I got the credit back in 2007, TPR's first group tour of Japan. Whew! Still - it sucks when that happens. But there will be a lot of Tokyo Disneyland (and Disney Sea!) to discover and enjoy, all the same. -
The Best Woodie under 75 feet Tall

Coaster @ Playland. Vancouver, Canada. Still going strong after 50+ years! Not bad for under 75 feet high, hmmm? -
Rumbling Mine Coaster
Nrthwnd replied to Metrofan56's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ That sounds exactly what a few of the coasters sounded/felt like, on the past TPR China Tour. -
...And when I saw it starting to break up before my eyes, without any help... I declined.

And so, the next two days of the tour..... Sad-And-Pathetic Credits Days! Although there were a few larger parks included these two days of dragons, worms and spinny mice, lol! And don't worry - although I don't show them immediately, amost of these S-A-Ps will be "featured" in an upcoming post. That also means, I can't remember which coasters went with which parks... but that's okay. It was all great! A few of the park names were as follows: Fisherman Warf Park (beach home of the insane looping tobaggan!); Shanghai Zoological Park; Chang Feng Park; Zhongshan Park... and Jin Jang Park, which was actually the largest park of the day for us, with one of The Largest Vekoma Giant Inverted Boomerangs I had ever seen - or ridden - in my entire life! It was awesome, and amazingly smooth, for myself. After all of the parks we visited this day, there was of course another group evening meal, and then a lot of us split up all over the city, with several of us ending up on the People Only Boulevard a few blocks from our hotel. I forget it's name, sorry. Parks and little coasters aren't the only things that got me blurry, heh heh. Street names, too. But it was nice evening break from...everrything else. The is Jin Jiang Action Park - home of that Massive Boomerang! And totally surrounded by the city, too. Park Map of JJAP. Still not good at focussing on these things. There's that big boomerang there - called what else? "Mountain Peak" Not that we didn't find s-a-p coasters in big parks, too. Note the TPR line at the left. Pathetic, really. I guess I was so impressed by this huge thing, I took another shot of it, as we were leaving the park. This was a "Pet Mall" we encountered after the day's parks. REALLY sad and pathetic. So many small cages/enclosures and pitiful conditions for the creatures. I could not bring myself to look through it with all the mewing, yelping and "other sounds" coming from it. )o: I enjoyed the Street Art in China cities, that would just POP out at you, when you turned a corner, etc. Very cool. This (what I call) City Art Commision was very cool, too. Now, it's after dinner and we are on The Boulevard I can't remember the name of, LOL! Couldn't resist taking this shot. I believe it's for Happy Valley Shanghai. If only their woodie went like this thru the woods, lol. Street People! Hi guys. And Ledgy (green shirt) looks especially "happy," there. Another fried tarantula eaten, buddy? I was born in March, 1953 (3/53?). So this shop sign was too good to resist taking a shot of it, heh heh. It was Sept.19 when we did this tour day. I assume "something" was becoming available at midnight, here? And it was opposite a GAP (see reflection). How brand name neighbourly of them, LOL. Final shot of the day. I liked the bamboo used in their scaffodling and with the lighting this looked very nice. Then - when I got back - I saw The Moon in there! -
Woo hoo! The Safeway Gift Card we won is worth $100!

Photo TR: Hanno goes to China with TPR
Nrthwnd replied to Hhappy's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I'll give Victory Kingdom four years. If that much. Till the next TPR China Tour, perhaps? The car ride looked like it was trying to knock off how Hong Kong Disney's done theirs in the layout, with that one guideway going out over the gp? Great shots of great open spaces, Hanno LOL! -
^ Noted. Thanks again, Robb. And I do believe we gave those arriving for the private event a good SCARE as they watched us screaming and yelling on it.
-
For myself, I thought Sting Ray was The Coolest Coaster on the tour! But I only rode it once. I did want to ride it more. But it was getting late, we had gotten there around their closing time. and Robb/Elissa was so good at getting us into the park... so I relished my one ride on it.
-
Too bad they didn't have any burning bodies hanging out of the plane... To put out, of course. *I - am - kidding* But it wouldn't surprise me if they did that, at the park. Great continuing TR as always Chuck. And it's fantastic getting those other smaller parks in order. They are a blur to me at this time, and I don't think my brain is going to sort them out, even with time, heh heh.

Tokyo Disney Resort Discussion Thread
Nrthwnd replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I knew I should of got me a balloon during last year's TP Japan tour. Sorry to hear about the helium depletion all the same. As for Cars Land basically replacing (it would) Adventureland? I dunno. It's possible, but I still enjoy how they's packed everything together (like the Western Railroad station over The Jungle Cruise docks). Very "Blackpool" of the park. But like others have already said, if they do create a Cars Land at TDL, it - will - be - awesome, I am sure of it. -
^^ That floor looks like an insane version of TWISTER, lol!

Age restrictions on rides?
Nrthwnd replied to andre8's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was, almost, at China Dinosaurs Park on Dinoconda, the S&S 4th D. coaster. The "age limit" was 60 and although I could prove I was under that age (I am 59), one of the ride ops still wasn't sure I should be let on the thing. I was finally able to convince him though, and I did ride it. And once was enough for me, LOL. And then there was the coaster before this one, where I had already ridden it once during our ERT session. Then I was about to change seats for another ride, and one of the ops comes running over to me, and asking me if I was sure I was "well enough" to ride it again, so soon! Um...yes, I was fine, I emphatically told him. And I got to ride it again - three times I think actually, lol. But I still never found out what that possible age limit was on it. And now, everywhere I go overseas... I am "55" And Bob/gisco? Jeff/jnetrains was denied the ride on Blue Tornado in Gardaland, while I was able to get away with it, without them even asking me. Go figure.
