Haunted Swings & Mad House Things!
Nrthwnd replied to Nrthwnd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I remember that Ice Tunnel very very well. Went through it on the Tram Tour in Sept.1975! It was created for a (then) Clint Eastwood film that was running, around the world. When we entered it, we did indeed get rather dizzy, since the end of the tunnel was so far away. Our Haunted Mansion at Playland in Vancouver, has a walk through one of those, with black light colours all over it. Walking through it has it's unsure moments of balance, as well, lol. Those tunnels are always fun, walking through or riding through them. Thanks for the Universal mention. Yup. Sign says it all. -

Just got back home from grocery shopping, and a quick trip over to the park, to see if anything else was going on with Corkscrew and where Wave Swinger was. Nothing appeared to be going on with Corkscrew. Everything's still in place. And the paving over continues, where Wave Swinger used to be, in front of The Beast. Workmen...working! Had to take a couple of Coaster shots, while there. The On-Ride Photo Camera covered up for winter. The "Screw" still screwing. Mountains shot from the fairgrounds. The sign.... ...for this. On the way back to the car. Recently painted on a local community centre. Beautiful. -
Haunted Swings & Mad House Things!

^ I found that a lot of the smaller ones, and mainly in Japan, build a house-like structure around it. Then, it's just a matter of how they wanted to theme it, decorate it, etc. I enjoyed the one at Hanayashiki. This is the one at Tobu Zoo in Japan. Pretty plain on the outside. Not exactly small, either. -

^ It's honestly the same concept I have found, around the world. SPOILER!!! You sit in a balanced bench like setup, with the outer "walls" turning around you, and over and over. You enter and exit at the ends of the "tube". Inner workings of such a fave attraction! -
I love Haunted Swings, or what some might also call Mad Houses. The principle is simple, but as with all I have ridden around the world (and there still many, thankfully), the outside and inside theming of the whole attraction, is what makes some of these to be so awesomely unique, even with a different story line attached to it. Just love them, even the more simple ones, too. I have a folder for these attractions, and here are ten of what I have collected in photos, so far. I am also not captioning them, as several will probably be memorable to you, as well as myself. Enjoy. And please post and regale your experiences and adventures with a very unique "flat ride" (ha). With photos, too! (And THANK YOU to all of you who took photos and posted them here at TPR, or on the Net. Much appreciated!)

50 innocent men, women, children, dead so far, in NZ. This guy needs fifty shots to the head and body. Don't care. He's not worth saving. Or forgiving.

^ Um, those photos of Merlin's Magic Castle in that article... is that intentional graffiti on it, from the park? Or did somebody(s) get bored during off season, sneak in, and add some "colour" to it? BTW, that owl looks a-ma-zing! Just wondering. I tried to translate a lot of the article, but couldn't find any mention of this "artwork" on the castle. Thank you to Loopings for all the great shots of their tour of the park. -

^ Very very nice ones, Phil! I'm working up to one of the ones that Belgian Fries (my go-to Poutine Palace!) offers. A big BIG burger with cheese and bacon on it, along with a good sized portion of their awesome fries, too! http://www.belgianfries.ca And I get nearly $7 knocked off of it, with a filled-in Belgian Fries Poutine/Fries Card. And I already have two cards filled up. Stay tuned...

For what it's worth, in one of those 2 photos you (Kamui) posted, it clearly shows that the Corkscrew has not been dismantled..... yet. Aside from all that, you gotta enjoy The View from this park! (o; -

"Nostalgia Night" for adults at Story Land
Nrthwnd replied to Rai Fox's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ This is exactly the way Playland did it, the first time round. One night only, and the sellout was immediate. And the crowds were HUGE for that one evening. So they added a month of Fridays the following year, which I guess is working out better for them. -
Two burgers sold at last summer's PNE in Vancouver... It's a Cactus Burger! ...and a Maple Bacon Donut Burger. Yum! Thanks Droolius.com for the photo.

^ Ho-Lee Crap! I was busy looking for Wave Swinger in the list, but I didn't look for anything else missing, there! Good "non-find", heh. My partner has a Rock & Gem Show at the community centre near Playland, this weekend. So I might hitch a ride with him to the area, and get my own photos there... And then bus home via Starbucks. EDIT: I also checked the current online map they have of the park, and Wave Swinger and Corkscrew are still there on it. -

^ And by the time they emptied it out, filled it back up, and then started running it.....one swing was enough for me, and it was so meh high in the high swings. And I remember it was only about 4 swings and it was done. I rode Spaland's in 2007. And yes, even back then, they only ran one of them, even with big queues filled up. The regular sized ones do sooo much better in their swinging. Of course, we went before or after the summer months, so maybe then they run both of them, then. But not all year it appears. -

"Nostalgia Night" for adults at Story Land
Nrthwnd replied to Rai Fox's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is like what Playland(PNE) started to do a few years ago, with having a (for us here) Playland Nights19+ during July. With beer and alcohol cocktails, all of the rides available, except the kids' ones (too small for adults at any time, lol). I went the first year they did one night only, to test it out, and it was fun, but very crowded. Now they do a whole month of Fridays for it, which spreads the crowds up. Hope this works out for Story Land, that it's successful enough to do it, every year. How they advertised multiple Fridays back in 2017. With AXE THROWING, yes indeed!
