Less of a rant than a lament... My best friend just told me she's moving out to Illinois to be with her real mom (whom until now, she hadn't seen since she was really little) and her siblings and to go to college. I'm so happy for her because since graduating high school she hasn't gone any further and 75% of the time is out of work and moving back and forth around the county essentially couch-surfing. Now she'll finally be in a better place to make something of herself, and I'm so proud of her. I'm literally crying right now because I realize it'll probably be years before I see her again. By that time, we'll both be very different people. Likely (and hopefully!), we'll both have college degrees and may be engaged or married and/or have careers and/or kids. Basically... I feel really sad because I know that after this summer, our fun antics in this town are going to be just memories. I'm really sad in a nostalgic sort of way.... I'm really going to miss her. On a side note... I know if I ever travel out that way to hit the amusement parks in that region, I'll have a place to stay. And hopefully she'll finally have enough money so she can go with me!

hahahhahaa OMG I just watched this movie for the first time ever two nights ago! I know what you mean!! It definitely was a very unnerving movie. I couldn't sleep for hours after watching it. I think it's one of the scariest movies I've ever seen, because unlike most horror movies, this s**t is real. And it's really scary to think how quickly drugs can spiral downward into such a hopeless vortex of addiction. I've known quite a few people who were drug addicts, and the thing that always gets me the most is how quickly and unexpectedly taking a few drugs turns into a complete, hopeless addiction. I think the movie captured that aspect of addiction really well. Thinking especially for the girl, Marion... how quickly things progressed for her from sleeping with a guy she's obviously been with before to get drug money, to basically selling herself sexually to a complete stranger. Very scary. Glad to hear someone else saw it recently that could discuss it! This movie is definitely one I won't soon forget!

Why? I don't understand some of the filters on this site. I think I'm somehow missing all the "fun" threads June 21st????? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!! I've had such bad luck with coaster events conflicting this year! Of all the weeks during the summer, I only have a job for the 21st, and the 25th-29th. If they changed it just one day over, I would be there! Hoping I can convince my boss to move the training to a different day that week, or do it earlier that day so maybe I can drive down and hop in line before the park closes! But my personal frustrations aside... I'm glad they have an opening date scheduled, and I'm glad they're giving a day especially for SFDK passholders!

Just looking at this makes my stomach churn and my palms sweat! Drop towers are about the only rides that make me nervous... this looks tantalizingly frightening! I can't wait to ride it!

The story I've always heard was that it was built tall off of a technicality that was later proven not to apply so they had to modify. The reason they promoted it as 150ft was more for the neighbors to avoid complaints, not to hide from the city. People caught on that it was 186ft almost immediately. For some reason I was under the impression the park tried to "hide" it from the county and eventually the county "noticed" the difference and told them to change it, but your explanation makes a lot more sense.

Agreed. I'm so used to seeing mountains that my mind automatically goes, "Mountains" but I have to keep telling myself that there are no mountains around there. It's really trippy... not sure what it is. Really cool/weird though!

I like the progress pics! I'm not too worried about the slow construction... just increases the suspense. But I could understand why some of you would be frustrated if you have a slowly-closing narrow window of opportunity to ride it this year. Loved that V2 video! This just further confirms that V2 is better now than pre-modifications. The holding brake didn't hold very long either... for some reason I pictured it holding suspenseful for several seconds... I guess not. I really do think V2.5 is the unsung hero of SFDK... it really adds a "completeness" to the park. Did anyone notice the video bragging about the 185 ft. back spike? I still don't know how SFMW thought they could hide this from the county, especially if they were bragging about it!

^Wow! That's awesome! I'm officially graduated from community college! Last night was the big night. That means I'm about 1/3 of the way through! (Since I want to get my M.A.) But more importantly.... SUMMER OFFICIALLY HAS STARTED FOR ME!!! Just wish the weather would agree!

Finished my final final today, turned in my last two papers, enrolled my independent study class, requested transcripts... now that everything is taken care of, I'm finally ready to celebrate the completion of my first two years of college! Tonight is graduation from my community college, then I'm counting down the days until I transfer to the bay area! And my professor is so freakin cool! I didn't finish one of my independent study courses (the same one that wasn't enrolled until today) but he said he was going to just give me an A because he trusted me and knew I'd finish the work, and understood that I need the grade now for my transcript and my A.A. degree. Thank you Dr. C!!!!!!!
