Advice Needed - Holiday World, Kings Island, SFKK
coolhandluke replied to edboxer's topic in Ask Alvey
I went to Kings Island last summer with a friend on the final Sunday before going weekends only (as a final "pre-move-off-to-college bash"). We didn't get to the park until 7:00pm, but we still managed to hit: Face/Off, Son of Beast, Top Gun, Racer (forwards), Flight of Fear, Firehawk, Vortex, double ride of Beast (just moved back three cars, no getting back in line), and Firehawk again (2nd to last train, going up the life as the fireworks went off). As you may be able to tell by our path, I also like to get rides out of the way before beginning re-rides. You shouldn't have any problems getting everything you want into your trip. I hope everything goes well for you! -
Well, last year I went to Cedar Point with a friend in late July. We went up when his work schedule allowed--a weekend (the 27, 28, & 29). Saturday was our only day at the park, and we had no ERT. Thanks to the notes I wrote on my phone, I can recall our day: Top Thrill Dragster--10-min wait (jogged there from the holding area for non-ERT ppl when the park opened) Magnum--Walk-on Gemini--Walk-on Mean Streak--3 minutes (1 hour in the park while walking to Skyhawk) Skyhawk--13 min Millennium Force--1 hr, 15 min Iron Dragon--10 min Corkscrew--16 min Maxair--20 min Wicked Twister--23 min Raptor--1 hour Mantis--50 min Maverick--1 hr 15 min Maxair #2--16 min Raptor #2--30 min Millennium #2 (front row @ night)--1 hr 30 min Raptor #3--5 min, last train to go in the park for the day So that was our 85-degree, sunny Saturday in late July. And in regards t photos, the following have photos: Top Thrill (2 pics), Maverick (2 pics), Millennium, Magnum, Mantis, and Mean Streak. Raptor does not have a photo--it has a VIDEO of the ride for purchase. Hope this helps!

Wow, I guess I just got really lucky at the Point...I went up on a Saturday in July and had a max 90 min wait, for Millennium Force at night. I got in 10 coasters, Skyhawk, Maxair, and a repeats on MF, Maxair and 2 on Raptor... But, I'm not gonna complain about how everyone is bashing CP, simply because I don't have enough park experience to compare it (or KI) to other parks. Personally, I love CP because I love the coasters, and that is what initially draws me to a park...[cringes for repercussions of the statement]. I also haven't been alive long enough to compare KI or CP to their 80s years. But I can say that KI doesn't appeal to me as a landmark park, and I live 45 minutes from it. It just seems...aged...I appreciate what I'm learning from more experienced people here and hope these other parks I plan to visit next summer are what people hype. As for the hyper, I pray to God they don't mess with the trees around Beast when building it (if it becomes reality). If they destroy Beast's atmosphere, I, an Ohioan and CF-reared enthusiast, will officially disown them. Beast is long and old, but the actual ride ain't no world-classer anymore. It needs the trees.

Hershey Hawaii [RCT3]
coolhandluke replied to coasterdude5's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^Hawaii is beautiful. Good thing this is a RCT3 project then, and not a real development. In all seriousness, I started following this park when it the thread was on page 71. I read 71 pages of updates in one day because this is just plain sweet. Great job with the park's look, the rides' originality and designs, and (especially) the storylines! Great job. Oh, and I like the realism of it too--no outrageous coasters/elements/architecture/foliage/etc. Well done. -
Photo TR: Cedar Point and more!!!
coolhandluke replied to SFOGdude25's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great TR! Makes me wish I had taken more than 20 pics when I went up...I'm especially a fan of the WT pics, as I tried (to no avail) to get some good angles on that sucker--thanks for doing it for me. ^^Last year I went and hit up the Point for one Tuesday, June 5. So a little before you, but on the same day of the week... **When we went, it was threatening rain all day and cool (45*-ish), just btw** BUSY ALL DAY--Maverick (granted it was 2 weeks old at the time), Top Thrill (over an hour), Mantis (50 minutes), BUSY SOMETIMES--Millennium Force (1-1/2 hr wait till the end of the day, then we got on in 10 mins), Raptor (was down for some of the day, but we rode back-to-back walk-ons at the end of the day) NOT BAD ALL DAY--Magnum, Corkscrew, Iron Dragon, Mean Streak, CCMR DOWN ALL DAY/MISSED--Disaster Transport, Wicked Twister, Blue Streak, Gemini, Wildcat, kiddies In the last hour the park was open we managed to get: skyride to Raptor, 2 walk-ons of Raptor, 10-minute wait for Millennium, and get in line for Maverick. 2-hour wait there (mechanical delays and a long line contributed), but since they won't kick you out of line when the park closes, my friend and I got front row. I haven't been up there enough that early in the season to know if my experience is consistent with the norm, but I thought I'd contribute as best I could. -
Good for a small park? Hell, send either one to CP to replace Mean Streak! Ok, maybe I'm dreaming there but these look amazing. I guess I'm one of the few who'd prefer Fireball over Hornet, just because of my bad experiences on woodie twisters (though I openly admit I have not been on GOOD twisters). Fireball's airtime just looks...delicious. ESPECIALLY on the double-down and the tiny little bump of a hill right before the double-up--yyyyuuuummmm...I guess I'd ride Hornet though if I HAD TO...and by had to I mean it's open somewhere around Ohio...

Several reasons: they think it sounds cool, or are indecisive, or figure they forgot something, you know, just weird reasons and stuff like that. What's up with "Flight Deck"? -
Great America Renames Top Gun
coolhandluke replied to Behemoth230's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, everyone's complaining about how bad the name is or complaining about how other people are complaining about the name...oh, well. I don't like the name at all, so I am going to complain about it. I like Cedar Fair, as they own both of my "home" parks (KI and CP). But come on, Flight Deck? I can't wait for KI to announce the...same...thing... At least the rides are still fun. And yes, by complaining about the name, I realize I open myself up to ridicule from others. -
I'm watching the one where Michael burns his foot and Dwight gets a concussion right now on DVD...so yeah! Do you prefer steel-smooth woodies over ones with a little bit of "character"?

What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
coolhandluke replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Way back in fall of 2007 I rode Firehawk at KI. It was the final ride of the night. My friend and I had just completed 2 consecutive night Beast rides by staying on the train. Going up Firehawk's lift hill we had the ultimate view of the fireworks display (because of the Vekoma flyers' seating position on the lifts). Then we had a great flight in the dark. -
Does that tower take your picture on the launch up? Because that would be a really small amount of time for pee to spread that noticeably through two layers (I hope) of clothes. I agree with PURE and larrygator...I think this was kind of...I don't know...staged. And why would he ask, "Did anyone else pee their pants?" right after getting off...I think most ppl would've waited to be called out on it and not voluntarily opened themselves up for humiliation.

Your Park "To Do List"
coolhandluke replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know I'm not alone in saying that SOB at KI was rideable (and even enjoyable) this year, as my friend who sat next to me on the ride also enjoyed it... But KI could add a little TLC to Racer. It's not unbearable yet, but I hope they don't let the classic slide too far. And I second the post from before, shade Firehawk's queue all the way! -
For those that don't know, I Am Legend is based (albeit loosely) on a novel by Richard Matheson in 1954. The book is set in LA. The movie followed the book in terms of the ending, with Neville doing what he did (haha! No spoilers!). Is it a letdown? That depends. But I appreciate the film sticking to the ending in the book (though the surrounding scenario is quite different). But I give the movie 8/10 for Will Smith in (as I see it) his best performance EVER. Yes, better than MIB and Pursuit of Happyness and Fresh Prince... I also found American Gangster to be awesome...9/10. Denzel is my hero.

^Hmmm...a subtle (but still clearly different) color change for the loop, and only the loop. I sure hope this doesn't come out as tacky as it looks in my mind. And, as expected, they didn't stray much from the old GL colors. Good thing I like blue and gold. -
Worst New Addition for 2007
coolhandluke replied to coastermaniac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ & ^^ Wow, my apologies--looking back I see I failed to include any indication of sarcasm in those first ones. I guess I haven't been around here enough to post a gag comment properly yet. That's why I put "in reality, though" by the Wiggles World, as that was my true vote. Those first ones were not my worst picks (I am in love with Maverick, I am trying to persuade a family vacation to BGE next summer, and Mystery Mine made my "top 45" wish list). From here on, I will be sure to articulate better between serious and sarcastic remarks. This still rings true, though, as I do have several friends who despise Maverick because the restraints allegedly "nearly decapitate them", and they refuse to ride it again. --Cool Hand "I gotta remember text doesn't have sarcastic inflections like spoken word" Luke -
Worst New Addition for 2007
coolhandluke replied to coastermaniac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Maverick (Cedar Point)--This park has enough coasters as it is, did they really need an all-encompassing, multi-dimensional ride that combines several ride experiences into one? And with some THEMING?? Come on, CF... Griffon (Busch Gardens Europe)--Why open a ride just like another one at a sister park? This forced them to alter ShieKra just to maintain popularity and compete, and does anyone actually LIKE vertical drop coasters? Mystery Mine (Dollywood)--I thought Dollywood was a park the entire family could enjoy. But then they go and release a crazy woodie, a Topple Tower, and this intense Euro-fighter. They are forgetting what is important to its visitors--family atmosphere. In reality, though, I didn't fully understand the Wiggles World changes (I guess I'm not alone either). I realize they are popular, but will they be for a long time (especially after their lead singer transition)? -
My high school had it and I made a baseball park, but I no longer have access to it. Was Evel Kineval (R.I.P.) more crazy than he was brave?

Oh but they most definitely are--sparks fly when the two are united... Is she buying a stairway to heaven? -
I'm a freshman at THE Ohio State University. I haven't declared a major yet, but I know it will NOT be law, med, or engineering. Maybe education? I came here because of a scholarship (Evans Scholars, baby!) I received which was good to either OSU or Miami University (that would be the one in Ohio, not The "U"). Can't pass up free money!
