  1. ^, ^^ This is the "When was the last time" thread, not the "Have you ever" or the "Yes or no" thread. But I have not. When was the last time you visited a park outside your home state?
  2. Absolutely. Do you floss?
  3. Free refills for $1? Sounds like a good deal... Nah, I understand what you mean. And I agree with the people above who say that it depends on what you want out of your experience. Personally, I eat in the park because I can't get myself to justify leaving and going to eat (and thus spending a chunk of time not riding) when I could just grab a corn dog (or funnel cake...) and eat it on my way to a queue or even in the queue. Personally, the time it saves to get food in the park is worth the extra price for me. Though I am one of those people who goes almost solely for rides (not shows or parades or anything) and tries to shoehorn as much adrenaline into one day as humanly possible. If I leave the park a little dizzy, tremoring slightly, completely drained of energy, and the road on the drive back seems to become a coaster itself, then it was a good day.
  4. Excellent TR. KI is my home park, so it's always neat to see what others think (as stated above). Well done, very thorough. I hope to start doing TRs that in-depth!
  5. ^^Yes. I am so glad to see this thing get vertical. I'm hoping I can make it out there next summer. I'm a little confused though, is Hersheypark tying to make this out as their best coaster and biggest attraction? Or are they acknowledging that Storm and maybe a couple others are still their landmark ride(s)? Not that it makes a difference in terms of my interest, I was just curious.
  6. Based on his pics, there are drops on both sides of TOT. Maybe behind it as well? Anyway, there are at least two rows so it's not just everyone waiting for one little row. Way to rep the GCL while Down Under, JZ! Chaminade-Julienne class of '07 myself. --Luke "I'll finally admit GCL South is stronger than North" Dickman
  7. ^^Slipkot is worth seeing/listening to for the drumming. Dragonforce, however, can barely play their own stuff live. It'd be like a perennial "Hard" Guitar Hero player trying to play "Through the Fire and Flames" on Expert. They get by, but I wouldn't get too excited about watching them shred on stage... Distirbed, however, is excellent through and through. What I really admired about TEN THOUSAND FISTS was the lack or vulgarity, showing they can still produce quality, edgy (dare I say controversal in some cases?) lyrics without using a bunch of %*@$&! stuff. Shows good writing skill. I guess they can play music OK to... I look forward to this new album, whatever the lyrical content (the lead singer Draiman said it will be more furiosly paced and darker than the previous work...WOW...)
  8. ^Bottom line, I was wrong. That's all that matters. I guess it depends on your definition of launch. Hulk works for me. Raptor--First inverted cobra roll
  9. ^^^I have heard of one of Maverick's maneuvers be called a Stengel Dive. Maverick, 2007, Cedar Point--first coaster to feature a launched "lift hill". taken from http://www.rcdb.com/ig3570.htm?picture=47 Does this constitue a Stengel Dive?
  10. Ask and you shall receive! http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=41083&highlight=darien+lake
  11. ^I think those are more intersecting than interocking. Interlocking corkscrews go (essentially) parallel to each other, and the track leading into one travels under the other. In Drachen, it was just more one corkscrew going over track which happened to have a corkscrew as well. Kinda like how coasters have corkscrews that go over walking paths. First (and only as of 2008) inverted interlocking corkscrews--Nemesis Inferno, Thorpe Park
  12. Like putting 4 inline twists in a row and then another one right after a little turn to breaak double digit inversion counts, perhaps? Or a steel loop in a wooden coaster? Might these be some "gimmicks" to which you are referring? 'Cause if they are, I totally agree.
  13. ^To add on... Beast-->ACE Coaster Son of Beast-->World's Tallest Pile of Wood Firehawk--?Firehawkhawk Racer can stay as it is...
  14. Oh, no...it DOES say Flight Deck...and it didn't say that before. Would they seriously change it from a better name to a crap name just for consistency among parks? The Top Gun coasters aren't even clones...they don't need the same name.
  15. I have not ridden CGA's Top Gun or Flight Deck or Afterburn. Have you played golf in winter?
  16. Dennis Haysbert is a god. Are Behemoth's trains a good innovation?
  17. Speed relies much more on vertical movement than horizontal movement (if HS honors physics serves me correctly). W/o friction, an object would reach the same speed falling 200 feet at a 90 degree angle and a 30 degree angle since it travels the same distance vertically--it would just take much longer to get to the top speed (because of the horizontal distance). But anyway... Sadly, I can't see a Canada trip in my future soon, but I really like the look of this ride. I'm hoping for a similar ride at KI in 09. And trains look good to me. Not being set 4 across seems like it will provide a much more open/free/out-of-control experience.
  18. "He's fat and he don't run too fast, but he's faster than me!" Haha, they are not that bad. I am a classic rock guy at heart, though I have plenty of new mainstream stuff as well. But my man-crush would have to be Don Henley, both for the Eagles' stuff and his own stuff...Led Z and Pink Floyd aren't far down though. Favorite new band would be either Goo Goo Dolls, Linkin Park, or Disturbed (yeah, kinda cover the whole spectrum...I know...)
  19. Werner Stengel. Can you imagine all theople living for today...(ay-ay-ayayay)?
  20. They very well could be. I agree with the problems, though those were on (not exclusively, but for the most part) very new, experiemental, prototype-ish rides. A new P&P woodie won't be the 1st or 2nd of its kind, so I would expect it to have less problems. But I included the " " guy to indicate my wishful thinking. But in terms of T Express, I hope Intamin has taken note of the issues Loefet indicated.
  21. ^ Beat me to it. The three Intamin pre-fabs (Colossus and the 2 mentioned above) are all highly praised by pretty much everyone for their extreme elements and super smooth ride. I have no reason to suspect this ride being any different. This looks just as crazy as its sister coasters. Come on, Cedar Point...you already love Intamin, why not...
  22. Nice Question! When was your lst walk-on for a big-name coaster?
  23. I've seen them twice in concert, and yes, they are incredible. I believe my favorite part is the epic drum solo...that guy has so much stuff around him to hit and goes about a solid 10 minutes of strobe-lit, double-bass, crazy bliss. He makes me wish I could play drums. Oh, and their guitarists are fantastic. And the piano. And the strings. And the poet. And the lighting. And the lasers. And the pyrotechnics. And...
  24. same reason your seasons are messed up and your toilet flushes the wrong way. When will be the first coaster to feature a true sonic boom?
  25. As expected, the Kings Island website has been updated with new generic names for the Paramount movie-themed rides. No big surprises: Top Gun-->Flight Deck Italian Job-->Backlot Stunt Coaster Tomb Raider-->The Crypt Face/Off-->Invertigo Apparently they didn't read the other topics on this site complaining about Flight Deck...
