Theme Park or Amusement Park
FlyingScooter replied to musicmand's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Waldameer is an amusement park. Disney (and all of its off-shoots) is a theme park. they have certain themes they go by. Another example: Geauga lake before Six flags was an amusement park with no set theme. When six flags took over, they had Looney tunes themes. Hope that helps. -

^They scrapped most of them out. Like the Double Loop, worth more as scrap metal than a working ride. Do you work for Cleveland Movers? -

I heard a good one this weekend. While shopping at Home Depot in Solon Oh, i heard two people talking about getting jobs at Geauga Lake this summer. I asked them which side of the park, the water side or rides side, they said the rides side and that Batman was coming back to GL... nah, i don't think so... -

The dark side of Dubai
FlyingScooter replied to Zero One's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sadly, it doesn't shock me at all. When i saw a few sweat-shop videos about major tennis shoe makers around the world, my eyes got opened big time. "Yachim makes 4 dollars US a day because he cranks out several dozen pairs of shoes a day. Ironically, given what he makes a day, it would take him 31 days to earn enough to buy one pair." Look at it this way: Who built the pyramids and temples? Not much has changed in many parts of the world. -
My youngest daughter played Trombone from 7th thru her graduation. She loved it. Their high school band was about 200 strong and sounded great, even while slippin' in the mud several falls during football games. They played the State and County Fairs, tons of parades and many concerts. I think one of the funniest things they did was during one football games two years ago. Instead of charging the field yelling olmstead falls, they screamed "FOR SPARTAAAAAAAAA!" I still laugh thinking about it. their band director turned beet red and made them do laps after the game. It was raining like mad, but those kids smiled all the way through the laps. My daughter told me to tell you guys: Don't ever give up band. It's the most fun you can have in high school without worrying about police coming after you.

Don't ever underestimate the willingness of a park owner to sell the park to a land developer if the price was right. Just because you and I love the parks and the coasters doesn't mean that Cedar Fair wouldn't jump at the chance for the park to be paved into a parking garage or a football stadium if it made sense to the bottom line. --Robb Robb's got a point. Look at Geauga Lake. Problem there was the economy tanked and no one wants to buy the land.
