London Dungeon New Ride!
verticalzero replied to LingLing13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's great news for London Dungeon, I wonder how high the drop will be. London Dungeon do use the space they have very well. It's a shame I feel dizzy when ever I visit. Last time I went there I was told by the "Judge" in the "Sentanced to Death" area, "You were caught peeing off London Bridge and someone saw your togger, for that cruel event you will be shot". It is suppose to be all good black humor with a bit of cheapness and corny thrown in. The ride opens on my Birthday, could be worth a re-visit -
All "Jason" - Friday the 13th and "Freddie" Nightmare on Elm Street (house No: 1425). I have the full size Freddy v Jason silver framed poster on my bedroom wall.

I've bought this film on DVD, but not had the chance to watch it. I'll check it out this weekend if not 2 busy. It does look a good film and I can convert it to my IUBI "Portable Media Player"

At my work in South England, it's "foggy" but the sun is breaking through, should be a nice temp of 15c by this afternoon. -
Otanjou-bi Omedetou Gozaimasu! Elissa Grattis på födelsedagen - as "Balder" would say. - Have a wonderful day and you got lots of free toys from MD's

spaceace12 - Can you add some of your 400 photo's onto this thread so we can see the parks..? So funny to read "Gwrzi, reminds me of Voyage", both are different coasters, 1 = Racing / Dueling Twister within a compact space and the other is a sort of Out n Back built for Speed with 24 seconds of

How old is Dragon Falls..? Could be time for an update, how about a turn-table at the top of the last drop that would be cool. Dragon's Fury and the Vampire are the best rides which Chessington can offer. I liked the "Bubble Works" dark water ride, but since it being revamped and sponsored by cleaning products it has gone done hill. Why do most things in England have to be sponsored by food, drink etc products, it's just being lazy not to give the ride a proper name. I would like to see "Rattlesnake" and "Runaway" train taken out and install a "Topple Tower" inc water features with a custom "Powered coaster".

I like the caption,, no change of underwear included in price of ticket on the Tower of Terror - a def no no sign in England. Lovely pictures of the park and rides, It's just as clean n tidy as "De Eftling". I'll stay on the shuttle loop (I do miss Thunderlooper) and Anaconda all day. TOT is not for me, I've ridden "Oblivion" once and that was enough, nearly passed out at the bottom of the tunnel. -
This is on the BBC Website: Link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6446183.stm Historical war epic 300 has been criticised as an attack on Iranian culture by government figures. The Hollywood film, which has broken US box office records, is an effects-laden retelling of a battle in which a small Greek army resisted a Persian invasion. Javad Shamqadri, a cultural advisor to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said it was "plundering Iran's historic past and insulting this civilization". He branded the film "psychological warfare" against Tehran and its people. But Iranian culture was strong enough to withstand the assault, Mr Shamqadri said. "American cultural officials thought they could get mental satisfaction by plundering Iran's historic past and insulting this civilization," he said. "Following the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Hollywood and cultural authorities in the US initiated studies to figure out how to attack Iranian culture. "Certainly, the recent movie is a product of such studies." Daily newspaper Ayandeh-No carried the headline "Hollywood declares war on Iranians". The film achieved the best ever March opening in North America The paper said: "It seeks to tell people that Iran, which is in the Axis of Evil now, has for long been the source of evil and modern Iranians' ancestors are the ugly murderous dumb savages you see in 300." Three MPs in the Iranian parliament have also written to the foreign ministry to protest against the production and screening of this "anti-Iranian Hollywood film". The film has already proved a major box office hit in the US where it earned almost $71m (£36.8m) in its first weekend, making it the best ever March opening in North American cinemas. This is not the first time Iran has protested over its portrayal in films made in the West. There was outrage over the 2004 epic Alexander which showed the Macedonian general easily conquering the Persian Empire.

I want to add a straight through exhaust for my PT Cruiser (make it louder and have more power). I visited my local MOT Centre today and asked them if I really need to have a "Cat" on my car. They replied: A Diesel car Test is basically a smoke test, and as long as your smoke levels are within limits and whatever you put on doesn't result in excessive noise, your vehicle should not fail on those items. But KEEP the original cat and fittings, Just in-case Diesel Smoke Emissions There appears to be some concerns over the testing of smoke emissions in cars with diesel engines. This part of the test has been developed so it does not harm a well-maintained diesel engine. The tester will ask you questions about your car's maintenance and history, particularly the engine. This is to enable the tester to ascertain you car's suitability for this part of the test, and he may refuse to carry out the MOT test if there is a risk of damaging your engine. Test stations are not permitted to ask you to sign a disclaimer. --------------------------------------------------------- This is great news if you want to get more power from your diesel car. Now I need to find a "Dump Valve" so I can hear the woooosh of the turbo. Your thoughts:

Thanks for the update and lovely pictures Jahan, Ninja looks amazing with it's new coat of paint, your have to wear your sunglasses when you get near it cos of it's glare. Most of the coasters in the UK need to have some TLC paint, Rust looking (as on Nemesis) is not an option when you can have a light blue or Gloss White. Is "Viper" getting an update with Paint..? Does the station get painted 1st followed by the lift-hill and the rest of the layout, supports last or 1st. I hope they use something bigger than a "standard" size paint brush.

I emailed "Cedar Fair", asked them if they could purchase this ride. I know they will not take any notice of me, worth a go It's a World Class ride (rated 40th in the World in 2003), not bad for a coaster which is so old. When is Jim Couch' new "RV Park" due to open...? Cedar Fair should make Jim an offer he can't refuse. I did not know about this ride when I went to Kings Island in 2000, othewise I would of visited the Park. Such a shame most of the decent old woodies have to be SBNO when their park closes, yes it is nice to have an excellent "Balder" in the world, but sometimes the old ones (esp built by John Miller) can hold their own.

SOB New Trains from Myrtle Beach

I've sent an email to "Cedar Fair" today to ask them if they can confirm the new SOB trains. I probably won't get a reply but it's worth a go. -

That's good speed for starting to build the lift-hill again, they could put more steel girders into the structure to make it strong. I'm sure no-one will say it's a "Hybrid" cos it's has 20 or 30 steel supports dotted around. -
Never been on this coaster and judging by the reviews it gave 1 hell of a ride. Link: http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2002/05/28/loc_story_of_the.html The Screechin' Eagle, a survivor of an early golden age for American roller coasters built by John Miller, has been renovated with new wood and soon will be repainted white. It was built in 1927 for another Ohio park, but was moved to LeSourdsville in 1938 and named the Cyclone. In the early 1960s, its name was changed to the Space Rocket, and, in 1978, the Screechin' Eagle. During the early 1900s, Mr. Miller was a top coaster engineer, well known for designing challenging dips and bends, and for inventing the underfriction wheel that held cars to the tracks. His and other engineers' efforts triggered a coaster boom. By 1919, 1,500 coasters operated in North America. The Screechin' Eagle “provides riders a walloping ride with stomach-floating plunges,” said Mike Schafer, a contributor to the book American Roller Coaster. He said the coaster was a contemporary of two other Tristate legends — The Wildcat (1926) and The Clipper (1937) — both at Coney Island near Cincinnati. The Eagle, the 13th-oldest in the nation and second-oldest in Ohio, is a favorite of coaster enthusiasts from across the country, said park spokesman Mike Mefford. If anyone has any pic's of it since it was closed can they post them. It has been SBNO for some years and i'm sure it would be cheaper to relocate to Kings Island and replace most of the wood than to keep SOB running. Can I have a Poll set up to say: If Kings Island bought this ride, Who would want to see SOB be replaced by Screeching Eagle.

SFNO/Jazzland Discussion Thread
verticalzero replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A new SFNO Update Link: http://www.wwltv.com/local/stories/wwl030807khsixflags.2fdffa34.html More than 18 months after Hurricane Katrina, the future is still uncertain for Six Flags New Orleans, the theme park flooded by Hurricane Katrina. At the Six Flags site in eastern New Orleans, one of the areas hardest hit by Katrina, rides that sat for weeks in water are idle, while the parking lot has been turned into a staging point for distribution of Federal Emergency Management Agency trailers. The park's official web site tells visitors only that Six Flags won't be open again in 2007 and the company, which leases the site from the city, is still haggling over Katrina damage. "We're still trying to resolve an issue with our insurer. We have filed litigation," said Wendy Goldberg, a spokesman for New York-based Six Flags Inc. "But until that's resolved, it's premature to try to make any decisions" about the park's future. Ever since it opened under different owners in 2000, the park has failed to live up to financial projections. Touting what was then known as Jazzland Theme Park as an economic development project that would boost tourism, Jazzland received a $25.3 million loan from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. After Jazzland's bankruptcy in 2002, the city became liable for repayment of the loan, and most of the total is still owed. Opening in May 2000, Jazzland reported a profitable initial season with 1.1 million visitors, but attendance dropped by nearly half in 2001, leading to the 2002 bankruptcy. Six Flags eventually bought the park for $22 million from privately held Jazzland Inc., changed its name and moved to a comic-book super-hero theme and spent at least $44 million on improvements. Six Flags was considered by tourism officials to be a core element in part of a push to make New Orleans more of a family-destination center, along with such attractions as the Aquarium of the Americas and the Audubon Zoo. Before Katrina, about half of the Six Flags visitors were guests from out of town. "We would be sad to lose them because they were an integral part of what the area has to offer for families traveling," said Lea Sinclair, spokeswoman for the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corp. "We have a lot still to offer, but they were a big part of it." The park's future is shadowed by the parent company's results, lagging because of falling attendance and heavy debt. On Jan. 11, in a move to cut a $2.1 billion debt load, Six Flags Inc. sold seven of its 30 North American parks -- New Orleans not among them -- for $312 million. At the time, Goldberg said the company was not actively seeking to sell any more parks. There have been hints that Six Flags is pursuing a strategy to get out of New Orleans. In June 2006, Mayor Ray Nagin said Six Flags wanted out of its 75-year lease with the city. According to published reports at the time, Six Flags offered to pay the city $10 million, along with giving the city 66 acres of land the company owns next to the park and 20 percent of any insurance proceeds above $75 million. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the parent company said Six Flags New Orleans was covered by up to $180 million in property insurance, with a $5.5 million deductible. This week, Goldberg refused to comment on any possible discussions, other than to say: "We will always work closely with the mayor." -
Thanks for the advice Parktrips, I will not post anything to Cedar Fair. I love this Website . I want to show CF how much it will cost them if those trains do run on SOB. It would be a shame to see SOB or "Son Of Pain" SBNO or razed within the next season or 2 due to the roughness. What a waste of money it was to build it when the design could of been so much better. I think Coaster manufactors and builders like GG and GCI should listen and ask advice of coaster fan's to produce even better steel and wood coasters for the future.

Saving Whalom Park? Again???
verticalzero replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The Flyer Comet had a mind of its own,When it got to the top, it was like it said, 'If I want the brakes to work, they'll work. If not, everyone's getting another ride.'" -
Robb, Do you mind if I send an email to "Cedar Fair" to tell them they might be making a mistake adding the "Mythe Beach" trains to SOB. I know they might not take any notice but it's worth the time to show them what coaster fans think of adding these trains to SOB. I would like to attach some of the comments from the forum if that is ok..?

SOB New Trains from Myrtle Beach
verticalzero replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The trains would need a lot of "padding" to help the passengers survive the circuit. I have been on SOB once, while holding the bar my hands went "numb" at the bottom of the 1st death helix. I loved the loop. I would ride it again if I visited KI, I still think this is the wrong design for a coaster, it belongs in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. The saying will say" Like Father, Not Like Son".
