Saving Whalom Park? Again???
verticalzero replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree with what you said Robb, it seems like a waste of $15 million to rebuild a park which closed due to not bringing in much money over the years or it could not compeate with the bigger parks. Use that money to invest into the local area, new cinema, swimming pool complex, shops etc. Or: Ask GG or GCI to re-built the Park's woodie "Flyer Comet", I read on "rcdb" the lift motor and some other mechanical portions of the woodie were removed, anyone know where they went. The Flyer Comet seemed to have a good following from most locals and fan's. -
On Screamscape it says: A Screamscape sources claim that Kings Island was the park that purchased the two lightweight Gerstlauer trains used on the Myrtle Beach Pavilion’s Hurricane. If true, then it seems likely that these may be put to use on Son of Beast, which gives me shivers. In my limited experience with Gerstlauer wooden coaster trains. I’ve found the lightweight trains seem to run well and with good speed on coasters with lots of straight track, but things get quite rough on the turns and we all know Son of Beast is all about giant helixes, so we’ll see if SOB continues to bring the pain this year. ---------------------------------------------------------- Kings Island were quick in buying new train's, If this is true, the speed would increase and it may go over 80mph, which is going to hammer the track and supports. More pain for everyone this season if SOB re-opens.

New Gerstlauer Spinner- Update
verticalzero replied to Calaway Park's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A "LIM" Spinning coaster would be good for this type of layout, save on tyres for the lift-hill sections. It should be able to produce 20 spins a min if you get the weight ratio right. I like "Dragons Fury" at Chessington, the only downside is not much on the hills. love the downward spiral helix's -
Was the below info the reason why the ride was so rough..? The Psyclone was the only wooden roller coaster trains ever built by B&M. Each train weighs 5000 lbs. No wonder "Psyclone" was shaking it'self to bits if the trains weight that much each. ------------------------------------------------------------ Regarding "Flashback", I do not know much about this 1 off design coaster, why was it not always operating most days and has been SBNO since 2003..? Did the public complain about it being rough etc.. As it is the only one ever made of this design, should MM keep this coaster stored or scrap it..?

Did the ride become "rough" because it was not looked after properly..? or was it just not built right.? CCI also built megafobia and Torr de Zues and these have not become rough over the last 6 years. I have heard Megafobia has had the top layer of it's track replaced in the last few years and that's it for maintance. It runs as smooth as the day it was born.

My local swimming pool has a women only swimming session every Wed evening. I can not catch the train and have a nice swim after work. I have to drive 12 miles to the next pool if I want to go swimming on a Wed. Do you think this is wrong ( The sex descrimination act we have in the UK) and why not have men only swimming (people would class this with gays only) or just have it mixed all the time 7 days a week. Links: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/4143394.stm and http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/4364920.stm I would like to know your views please.

Tussaud Group [TTG] Bought Out By Merlin
verticalzero replied to sebo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A cool £1Bn pounds is a huge sum of money, invest it into Thorpe Park with a 2009 "Floorless" by loggers leap and a extra large woodie. -
Wood or Steel?

Walibi Holland Discussion Thread
verticalzero replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would go "mad" if I did not have rollercoasters to ride, the rides help with peoples angry and can even help them cope with everyday life. Here in the UK we pay 17.5% for everything apart from 6% on gas, water, electric and 69.9% tax on fuel. I have a 3-bedroom house which I pay £900 a year Council Tax on. Does the UK look good now..? I going to feel sorry for the people who are left behind when I move country. -

That is sad news, but atleast it did not collapse when there was a train on the track. A coaster is at it's weakest when only the structure is there with no track. I hope they can re-enforce it so the woodie can take the strong winds in that area of Holland. I wish GCI all the best with rebuilding the rest of "Troy" and look foward to riding this lovely looking woodie later this year.
