  1. Now if only someone could secure the rights to a Lord of The Rings themed park and a Skull Island park (King Kong's island), I'd have it all pretty much.
  2. Anyone remember where at KD you could clearly see a broken sewer line in the pool of Diamond Falls? The ride used to be in the lake, but after the water park, it was like they left the lake water in there for the next 15 years. Gross. Seems quite a few people on here really like these things. I still don't get it. If it has theming, I get it. If it's tall I get it... But 50 foot drops with nothing other than the one drop?
  3. I saw Jurassic Park in theaters as my first thriller movie. I was 8 when it came out. Man, that theater was full of screams. You don't hear that nowadays even at horror movies. I was terrified by the dilophosaurus. The T-rex never scared me. Jaws still affects me. I have this ritual where i watch it before I go swimming in the ocean to test myself. I get paranoid in the water as an effect. Last summer I went swimming at twilight, and at the beach here, we have sandtiger sharks feeding at that time. I don't think I'll do that again, but it was an adrenaline boost when I did. The Alex Kintner death is still, in my opinion one of the most shocking things in a PG rated film.
  4. ^ I agree the Wild Thornberrys sucks. I've ridden the one at Carowinds, and all they did was pretty much spruce up the queue line. And that elephant. That's it. Made the line a lot longer too. I'm glad KD never got around to doing it to theirs. But log flumes all around are much better. I want to ride the one that gets you soaked at Islands of Adventure sometime.
  5. ^ Holy smokes! I can understand wanting to be cooled down on a hot day, but most of em are small and very boring. The ones at the Six Flags park in particular. No theming, only about 50 ft.... I just feel they could be taken out and replaced by more thrilling or more interactive/fun water rides most of the time.
  6. I've always wondered what's so great about shoot-the-chutes rides... I mean, I used to live in Virginia, where we had 2 okay ones with Diamond Falls at KD and Escape From Pompeii at Busch Gardens. Diamond Falls had minimal animatronics/sounds at the last turnaround and Pompeii has the cool fire and stuff. But most shoot-the-chutes just seem really boring. Go up, turn, splash, turn, end. Even Kingda Ka does more than that. Some, like Whitewater Falls at Carowinds, sometimes don't even get you wet! I'm wondering what the draw is to these attractions. I mean, I can understand the rapids rides, cause you get a different experience each time, and log flumes, because usually they are good for a tiny sprinkle. But the chutes rides... I think most parks could take those out and put something a lot better in. I mean, am I the only one who sees most of these as wastes of space?
  7. Sorry, I was in a weird mood last night. My apologies. Apology accepted. Everyone is entitled to a weird mood now and then.
  8. ^Don't worry. I was interested in people's views, but now I know not to ask questions or anything. I'll keep my thoughts to myself from now on and just lurk.
  9. :crickets chirp:
  10. Simple. Do you like the movie Jurassic Park or Jaws better. Not the rides... Oh well, you can include those too I guess. And none of this "they both suck" stuff.
  11. I'm pretty sure that Kings Dominion is haunted. I've heard that there's the ghost of a teenage boy hanging out in front of Shockwave sometimes. For those that don't know, a teenage boy was killed and almost decapitated on the coaster that used to sit there. I'm also quite sure I've seen an apparition on the lake. Dunno what that could be though. And lastly, ride White Water Canyon at night. In the late 80s, there was an accident on the ride. One of the rafts flipped or something, and it resulted in one death. Riding that ride at night can be creepy. I've never seen anything, but in the second holding area, you can definately feel something. BTW, does anyone have details on the White Water Canyon accident? I know it happened, and I know that a guy got pinned under when the raft flipped, but I don't know much more...
  12. two 2-liter Dr. Thunders and a 1/2 gallon of 2% milk. - $3.69
  13. Hey this reminds me of something they show on rollercoaster specials sometimes about a wooden coaster way back when that slid back down the lift hill into the station below while others were boarding. They only show the aftermath, and if i remember correctly show tv footage of someone being interviewed that was in the station. I believe it was in black and white. Anyone remember? But yeah, this kinda thing is nothing to get worked up about. Happens probably at least once a year somewhere in the US.
  14. ^ Exactly. I exercise every night, and I have a medium paced metabolism. With the fast food I eat, it balances out. Blaming people who eat fast food for being fat is uninformed. It depends on metabolism, other eating habits (I love vegetables too), exercise, and your somatotype (endomorph, ectomorph). Now, if it's a kid using his Heelies all day, sitting in front of the tv while eating nothing but fast food and potato chips, then yeah, that kid has a problem, and sadly all kids have Heelies now. I hate the things. Always getting run into.
  15. ^ Wrong. I eat fast food almost every day, and have for years. I'm 21 and I'm 150 lbs at 6 foot 1. Doctors say I'm in almost perfect shape. Blame something else.
  16. I haven't experienced it, but it'd be interesting riding some rides when the power goes out. What happens to a raging rapids ride when that happens?
  17. So one question. Since these parks started out like Islands of Adventure has sorta, will Islands of Adventure be bland too in 20 years?
  18. Since the last park I went to was last year, the last coaster I rode was Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens Europe.
  19. Somewhere... that article just created another emo.
  20. I dunno about that. Let's look at Kings Dominion for example... The park had just been open fully for 2 years when King Kobra debuted, and then 2 years later, a massive thing happened that must have cost an astronomical amount of money. A 180 foot mountain was built, and inside it three attractions were added. An indoor rotor called The Time Shaft, a water ride called Journey to Atlantis (later called Haunted River), and the mine train (later Land of the Dooz and Smurf Mountain). That had to cost a lot of money, and I don't think KD had the capital to spend on such a thing based entirely on the money they made. I'd love to see a park do such a thing today though. But nah, theming is passe outside of Disney it seems.
  21. I thought it was the best in the series. Spoilers were already given, so I'm not gonna repeat them. Forget what the faux-intellectual critics say. See it if you want to. I really enjoyed it.
  22. hehe. They have one of the new water slides in Kings Dominion labeled as a new Log Flume.
  23. Actually I preferred Red Dragon to Silence of The Lambs and Hannibal. Hannibal was snoozeworthy to me. Red Dragon just had the creepiest feel to it.
  24. I'm a Burger King junkie. I eat there at least 3 times a week. Sometimes twice a day. I love the taste of their burgers, which I believe they make juicy by microwaving them after making them. They also haven't gone on the forced health kick that McDonalds is going down. McDonalds is nasty to me now, besides breakfast. I always feel like if I order a burger there, I'm eating garbage.
  25. ^ Is she singing the national anthem while grabbing her crotch?
