Death of Small Waterparks
Goliath513 replied to RollerC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Oh I read somewhere that it is Hyland Hills Waterworld. I guess that could have been misleading information. -
My Jr High school (Kenilworth JHS) was demolished last summer to make way for a shopping center. Words cannot describe how mush I hated this school so I will let these few pics show how much I enjoyed watching it's destruction. As of today, nothing remains of the school except piles of dirt for the future construction. Taken 7-10-06. The gym being demolished Taken 7-4-06 from the other side of the campus. Not looking so good eh!? Taken 6-18-06. The remains of my 8th grade english classroom.

I'm gonna get suicide bombed for saying this, but Windjammer Surf Racers at KBF was, in my opinon, very under rated. It was my first ever roller coaster ride and I do not remember the headbanging and roughness that everyone has complained about. It didn't break down when I was in line for it, but I guess that's uncommon concidering it's a TOGO I rode the red track (cuz the yellow wasn't running) and I enjoyed it. I would have gone again if my parent's would have let me. I was sad when they took it down.

What are your TOP TEN COASTERS
Goliath513 replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd say I have a fairly decent coaster count for my age. But I haven't been to CP or SFGAdv yet so my top ten is definitely subject to change. 1. Goliath (SFMM) 2. Tatsu (SFMM) 3. Silver Bullet (KBF) 4. Ghostrider (KBF) 5. Medusa (SFDK) 6. X (SFMM) 7. Xcelerator (KBF) 8. Riddler's Revenge (SFMM) 9. Colossus (SFMM) 10. California Screamin (DCA) -
german top spin
Goliath513 replied to jamesissoocool's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh I know, Voodoo is SOOO boring. D*mn US safety restrictions tone down rides. Not a top spin, but this also resulted in Thriller being toned down from it's out of control original version to the crap formerly known as Zonga at SFDK. -
Most Overrated coaster?
Goliath513 replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Remember Zonga at SFDK? I remember the hype about it being a "lush jungle themed" looper. Well did they get any of that? NO. It was placed on a giant concrete slab with a crappy station. And just to prove the hype, shortly after it opened, I heard radio advertisements calling it "one of the most extreme and thrilling coasters on the planet." Even a die-hard Schwarzkopf fan wouldn't say that about this. My friend and I rode it in opening week and we had many complaints about it. One, the OTSRs that had been added since it's removal as Texas Tornado at Astroworld, were uncomfortably cramped. The then 5'6" 100 pound me even had a hard time squeezing in. I would have traded those trains for SFMM's Revo's any day. Second The ride was extremely rough and it was headbanging from start to finish. I remember having to brace myself every time I rode it. Third, it was always breaking down. During it's last year of operation when I rode it, the train got stuck in the final brake run and a mechanic had to push it out with a wooden board. It also had a problem with getting stuck in the MCBRs. This is an example of what happens when a decent ride is modified to the extent of where it is no longer functional. Enough said. -

Death of Small Waterparks
Goliath513 replied to RollerC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not all major water parks are chain operated. Hyland Hills Waterworld in Denver, America's largest waterpark, is owned by a campground. Here is the result of 4 years of neglect at Heritage Square's waterslides. -
Knott's (formerly Paramount's) Great America. Vortex - short and rough for a B&M Demon - corkscrew = ouch Invertigo - Slow moving line and rough Top Gun - I'll give them credit for that. Fastest moving line on an inverted coaster I have ever seen Grizzly - pretty good, but not worth re-riding Psycho Mouse - nothing special. just another "mouse ride" Stealth (Removed) - Was the best ride there until they removed it. Greased Lightnin (removed) - No lines and quite a fun ride. but GA made the mistake of removing that too. The last time I went there, I waited for a combined total of about 4 hours for a major headache.

Siam Park - Waterpark in the Canary Islands
Goliath513 replied to Lincow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This looks like it's going to be an awesome park. I like how they have their Tornado and Bowl slides integrated into the hill side instead of sticking out like at most parks. -
Death of Small Waterparks
Goliath513 replied to RollerC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This reminds me of a small amusement park in Golden, CO called Heritage Square. This park has 2 small water slides which have not been operational since sometime around 2003. This is due to the opening of a small locally owned water park on the other end of town that same year, the nearby community/fitness center with its indoor pools and waterslide, Elitch Gardens' water park, and Hyland Hills Waterworld north of denver. The water park at Heritage square has been completely trashed during its down time. I will post a picture of it as of last August when I get home from school. -

^ I was just thinking that! It's a good thing they caught their problem now. Otherwise, I think your prediction about Maverick becoming the next Drachen Fire might become true. Now that would suck. -
Death of Small Waterparks

Last year, nothern California lost a water park called Winsor Waterworks, which was about an hour away from my home. The park only had a simple pool and 3 decent sized slides, but it also had picnic areas and volleyball courts. One thing that I liked about it was they had barbqueues for guests' use. Their troubles began in 2004 I think it was when a 10 year old boy drowned in the pool while on an end-of-the-year school trip. He didn't know how to swim and his parents let him go. This shows how irresponsible parents are these days. Well, of course, this led to legal troubles and they shut down in early 2006. This park was a traditional destination for end of the year school trips. My brother went there with his school the day following the drowning. From what I hear, they were also loosing business to the nearby (former Six Flags) Waterworlds. Another park that has been lost is no small park. This was Oakwood park in Manteca, California. From what my my dad has told me, this was one big waterpark. Sadly, after 30 years of operation, they closed their gates in September of 2004 and has been completely torn down. As I was driving through Manteca last July, I saw water slide track pieces nearby the site which was in the early phases of residential construction. I was really disappointed that I never got to visit this park because I heard it was great. If only... -

Wow I never expected the park to be that empty. It looks like a very fun and nice park. I will have to get out there sometime to experience it. -
(NL) B&M Hyper and others!

The tracks touching the ground on that banked turn would shred the train to pieces. I advise you to either raise the track, or lower the land slightly. -
NL Help Thread
Goliath513 replied to jason10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Use at least 4 vertex segments so you can control where you want the straight part to be and where you want curves. In NL V1.6, select the segment that you want to straighten and press "I" that will straighten it. "Ctrl-G" will smooth out vertex segments. But be careful with this because it will affect any straight segments you have connected to the vertex. Hope this helps. EDIT: These are the controls for the Windows version. I don't know what they are for the Mac. -

Is it me, or is this one of the smoothest woodies ever? I hope this is the year I will be able to make a trip to Valleyfair when I'm out in the midwest later this year.
