  1. Pretty self-explanatory. Bluegrass mixed with gangsta rap. And you know what? It works.
  2. Just finished A Perfect Witness after it was recommended by someone on Reddit. I'm... not sure what I just watched. Was it a psychological thriller? Was it a black comedy? Was it a crime drama? Was it a dance flick? I don't even know. All I'm sure of is that it was engrossing as all get out for the first hour, until it fell flat on its face and just sort of dragged along with sparks of hope for the remaining 30 minutes. Climax? Proper ending? This movie doesn't even care. It does its own thing. I will say, though, the performances from the two leads were sublime, especially the unpredictable David Hyde Pierce. As well, the music and camerawork, while simple, were really effective considering the ever-shifting tone of the film. I'll give this one a day to settle in before I make my final opinion.
  3. Weird stuff happens when you fall asleep on the couch while the TV is on a channel that plays kid's shows in the morning (e.g. I woke up to some Wiggles-esque song). In my dream, the new quarter at my school was starting, and I was making my way to my new class. I looked at my schedule, and... huh. Hairdressing? I don't remember signing up for that class. Weird. Maybe I'll end up liking it, who knows? And what the heck, what's it doing waaay out on the edge of campus? We'll see! So I made my way out past the Engineering area, which slowly became a huge, wooded area, and finally found the classroom. In a cabin. Okay. Outside, there are a few adults and kids standing in a circle, and since there are no other buildings around, I assumed they were my Hairdressing class and joined in. They were doing some weird quiz ritual thing where the teacher stood right in front of a nervous-looking student, pie in hand, asking questions. I can't remember what was said, but the teacher ended up throwing the pie into the kid's face, sparking a big food fight. Another teacher runs out of the cabin with a tray of giant raviolis, throwing them everywhere. When everything settled down, the other three kids introduced themselves. We had to make our way down a giant mountain, which was less like a hike and more like traversing to the bottom of a steep ravine in Minecraft. We almost died several times. Finally, at the bottom, we talked about our dreams, sang a few musical numbers (that I just kind of hid in the back for, everybody seemed to know them already but me, even though they seemed really improvised), and made our way into a house at the bottom. Now this house was odd. Whichever way you went, through doors and up stairs and down hallways and so on, you would always end up right where you started, back on the bottom. Everybody else knew the house and left through the door that led straight back to the cabin at the top of the ravine, but I got lost. Finally, I just exited the house at the bottom and climbed back up on the less-steep side of the mountain. Returned to my classmates, we sat at a picnic bench and talked. I don't remember much from this point on, but one of our topics was Call of Duty's Nazi Zombies. Nothing about hairdressing, of course. Something else happened, but I woke up shortly after and can't remember it, even if it was like ten minutes ago. This is the first dream I distinctly remember having and remembering a lot about in a really long time, I'm not really sure how to feel about it. Hopefully my new quarter that starts Monday has Government as my new class, and this isn't some weird foreshadowing.
  4. Remember Yeah, Devin Townsend just uploaded a out of nowhere. I don't even know, but it's awesome.
  5. Sometime in October or November, I think. I'm pretty much as uninterested in sports as a person can be, but I did go to a football game at my school on a date then. When was the last time you overslept?
  6. ^^^ I dig it! Though I'd expect it to have a bit more oomph given the power of the instruments, the singer's not bad, and it comes together pretty well. I'm sure I've brought these guys up in this thread before, but I think you'd like Cobra Skulls. They're punk as well, but with a more political/rebellious edge and a more traditionally punk singer. All their albums are on Spotify, but here's one of my favorite songs of theirs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zuK2GSOZx4
  7. Sunday, actually! It was the self-titled album by The xx, after I'd fallen in love with the song "Intro" and wanted to check out more. I read a description somewhere that they're "makeout music for hipster teenagers" or something along those lines, which is pretty much a perfect explanation of their vibe, but I dunno, I dig it. Inversely, when was the last time you listened to an album with high hopes, and ended up hating it?
  8. Freakin' Devin Townsend. It seems like every time I listen to a song from his older albums, I catch a snippet of lyrics or guitar work that he slipped into Ziltoid The Omniscient or one of his later works. Sometimes I just want to listen to some metal and chill. But no, he makes me think about what I'm listening to and respect the artist. Pfft.

  10. Played my first two games of Dota 2 tonight with a full team of friends. That game is HARD, but I think I like it. We lost the first due to us having one disconnect from the beginning, and it was really obvious we weren't against people that had 1 win like their profiles said. We won the second, though, that one was a lot more fun. Funny story, though. I'm an idiot when it comes to spells. I was playing Vengeful Spirit second game, and was getting a grip on her Nether Swap ability, which switches the places of you and a chosen ally/enemy within a certain range. In a frantic battle I was caught smack in the middle of, I acted before thinking and swapped with the closest entity... which just happened to be Juggernaut on my team, my lane partner, wounded and running away from the fight. I swapped. I escaped. He died. He RAGED. HARD. It was actually kind of entertaining, and since we ended up winning anyway, it didn't matter at all. I'm gonna stick with this game, though. It's really rewarding.
  11. The xx - "Basic Space" It's official. Their music clicked in my head, and I'm in love. This is a genre I really need to explore more, minimalist chill music.
  12. Once again, Goliath at SFMM. It was the first time I'd ridden it, and I'd forgotten that the coaster goes into a tunnel at the bottom of the first drop. When we reached the peak, and I looked down to not see any track in front of me, I swear my heart skipped a beat. It's stupid, but hey, that's adrenaline-fueled logic for you. When was the last time you bought music in a physical format?
  13. Muse - "Panic Station" I'm not even gonna lie, this new album is resonating well with me. I'm really digging it. It's weird and waaaay different from anything else they've put out, but I dunno. It's big, ridiculous, maybe a bit bombastic fun.
  14. ^ That, and half the remaining people walk around saying "LOL HAPPY SINGLE AWARENESS DAY GUISE XD".
  15. Because I absolutely can't get enough of this song.
  16. I wouldn't necessarily call it a rant, but looking back on early posts from that "When was the last time you..." thread, I found a post from Masked_Maverick. I'd totally forgotten about him. The feels returned.
  17. Last Tuesday, since I was working the spotlight for a day-long set of performances from my school's dance company. Missing AP Calculus sucks. When was the last time you watched a disappointing movie?
  18. Oh jeez... probably around August, back when I was into running. When was the last time you played a board game?
  19. The xx - "Sunset" I just started listening to these guys last night. Wow. It took a few songs to get in the right mindset for it, but they're great. "Intro" is one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard, and while nothing else I've heard reaches the same level, it's all still really enjoyable.
  20. Got back from the Gojira/Devin Townsend Project/Atlas Moth show about two hours ago. Holy %&@$. After an honestly disappointing opening act by Atlas Moth, who just weren't my type of metal at all, Devin freakin TORE IT UP. Most of the songs he played were from Epicloud ("Lucky Animals" was a lot more fun than I expected, "Grace", "More!", and my absolute favorite, "Kingdom"), but he threw some Deconstruction ("Planet of the Apes" in its entirety, "Juular") and Infinity ("Truth", "War") in there for good measure. He puts on an incredible show, with juvenile yet hilarious banter throughout, a great use of projection on a screen behind him... man, so good. Then Gojira. I was nowhere near ready for how brutal they are live, in the best way possible. They somehow sounded exactly like, if not better than, they do on the albums, and the light show, song choices ("Heaviest Matter of the Universe", "Flying Whales", "The Art of Dying" had everyone going NUTS in the pit), and their huge, angry yet passionate energy made for an amazing experience. Overall, best concert I've been to by far, beating out Cobra Skulls a couple years back. I'd definitely go again. And THANK GOD for those earplugs! As of right now, after being within 15 feet of the stage for 2/3 bands, I have minimal ear ringing, and can hear perfectly well. They're tough to get in your ears correctly, and they do muffle the sound a bit, but it's totally worth it to not have your ears blown apart within thirty minutes.
  21. I have bought two video game soundtracks in my life: Bastion and Frozen Synapse. They're both absolutely incredible, and I listen to them in full on a regular basis.
  22. ^ That's why I went and bought a pair of these a couple months back, just for shows like this.
  23. I absolutely can't wait for this Thursday. I'm seeing Gojira, a band that I've recently taken a great liking to, and The Devin Townsend Project, one of my all-time favorites, along with a group I've never heard of called The Atlas Moth. So what I couldn't find any metal-head friends to go to the show with, I can still go to enjoy the awesome music. CAN'T WAIT!
  24. I recently read Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man for my AP English 12 class. Exceptional book, I really enjoyed it, and now that we're going through it chapter by chapter, I'm really able to appreciate the incredible technicality behind it. Symbols, allusions, parallels... this book is dense. I'm also interested in reading A Game of Thrones. I picked it up from B&N over the Summer, got about 70 pages in, and have been too busy to pick it up again since. I'll probably restart it, and read it through. What I did read, I loved, though, it's a fantastically written book.
  25. So my school sets up 12th grade (block) schedules so that each quarter we switch between English part 1, Government, English part 2, and Economics, in no particular order, other than English is always 1st and 3rd quarter, or 2nd and 4th, never back-to-back. Well, guess whose class has something weird going on with their schedule so that they have English 2nd and 3rd quarters, and had to do the in-between assignment in two weeks when we're supposed to get eleven? This guy! So I had to read Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, a 580-page book and the hardest novel I've ever read, in these two weeks. I was stupid and procrastinated, and just finished it an hour ago. And now I have to write somewhere along the lines of 4 pages about the symbols, irony, satire, etc. in the book before first period tomorrow. You know, when I barely understand what the hell I just read. Wheeee. I know, I know, I kinda set myself up for this. I absolutely regret it, but I had just built a new gaming computer, it was hard to resist...
