The "Say Something Random" Thread

In five days, I'm gonna sit down with seven friends and power through an 8+ hour session of Twilight Imperium 3, an epic space board game. I've never played before. The others have played at least a couple times, and some are 5-year veterans. I have a LOT of preparing to do. -
Heh, I couldn't think of a better word. It wasn't a bad movie, just bizarre. Some elements of the story were inconsistent or under-explained, and the pacing was a little odd, but watching it was just too much fun for me to care.

I don't think I can do any better than the Netflix description for Sound of Noise: It was... odd. I LOVED the music throughout the movie, and it ignited an interest in trash drumming/stomp music, but everything else was kind of janky. I'm not sure if I liked it or not.

There's a new eHarmony commercial going around that just pisses me off. It has a little girl telling her grandfather (the eHarmony guy from the rest of the commercials, you'd recognize him) about how her teacher found a boyfriend or something like that. But, she says, it won't last, because she didn't find him on eHarmony, where the most relationships and the most marriages are made! And it's her going on and on with the stock BS you hear in every dating website ad, playing up the "OMG CUTE KIDZ ;_;" factor to 11. I dunno, I find it unbearable. But then again, every commercial featuring the "cute smarty pants kid" trope is awful to me.

Miracle of Sound - "38th Street" He released a "relaxing chill out" album on Youtube today, I'm loving it so far.

I finished watching Apocalypse Now for the first time a moment ago. I'm gonna need a few hours to process what I just saw, but God knows I'll never forget it.

Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?

A wonderful 70 degrees fahrenheit with clear, sunny skies. I don't know what happened to the mild winter we get here in Sacramento, but I'm really not missing it that much. I'm totally a fall/spring guy, and this is right up my alley. -
The first hour of that game is among the best game content I've ever seen. So much world-building and sightseeing, it is completely engrossing. It's a shame I have a lot less glowing things to say about the first instance of combat... I'm starting to think that I'm playing too many games at once. GTA: San Andreas, The World Ends With You, Dark Souls, Just Cause 2, Dead Space, Brutal Legend, Mark of the Ninja, Burnout Paradise, and far too many single-instance games on Board Game Arena... I need to learn to focus on just a couple, 2 or maybe 3, games at a time instead of spreading myself thin and spending barely any time with each individual game.

I had my first job interview today, and I feel it went really well!

Everclear - "Rock Star" Dumb song, but there's something really appealing to me about the instrumentation. It strikes a good balance between heavy and party-rock.

^ Season 2 is different (slightly for the worse, IMO), but based on the first episode, it's absolutely worth experiencing if you liked Season 1. I bought Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons today. I think my feelings are effectively summarized by the fact that I played through the entire thing in a single sitting. I mean, yeah, it only took me 2.5 hours, but it was one of the most engrossing, beautiful, and powerful games I've ever played.

Played the first episode of The Walking Dead, Season 2 just now. Why, TellTale? Why do you insist on grabbing us violently by the heartstrings and shaking us all about, but in just the right way that makes us keep coming back for more?

What is your favorite genre of music?

I don't even think I can narrow it down anymore. I usually say rock/metal, but I've come to realize that there are certain elements I look for in it: a hard beat you can headbang to, a sense of power, not-too-harsh vocals, and what I can only explain as a beautiful heaviness. By that, I mean like a massive, atmospheric, all-encompassing sound that brings chills up your spine. This is a perfect example of what is impossible to explain with words. But equally important as any of that is fun. Some kinds of music are just incredibly fun for me to listen to: (though I have no clue why, there's no way to defend that music, but I love it anyway), certain varieties of punk, and whatever the hell Diablo Swing Orchestra falls under. I just can't sit still when listening to those sorts of music, I have to sing along, dance in my chair, bang my head to it, whatever. Yet sometimes, calm music does just as much for me. The xx has . Tool's Disposition/Reflection/Triad trilogy showed me that I'll never need drugs to achieve a spectacularly tranquil state of mind. The sense of frission I find in these songs is amazing. But the reasons I'll listen to calm music are completely different than the reasons I'll listen to heavy metal, as are the emotions I feel when listening to each. Sorry, this is something I've been thinking about a LOT lately as I've tried to expand my musical horizons. And I apologize if this is the most pretentious thing you've read all day. -

I would say board games, but I'm totally outgoing about that hobby, I love it. Not a guilty pleasure at all.

Almost done with my first semester of university! I just have one more essay to write, but since it's a second draft of the first paper we wrote in the class, it should be pretty easy!

Rage Against the Machine - "Sleep Now in the Fire" Digging this band so much right now.

^ The only 2013 album I've listened to is Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, which I LOVE. I'd rather do a top new-to-me album list. Music that's up to 20 years old that I never gave a chance until this year. I'll ponder on it.

Had a chance to work at my first haunt this past Halloween, and from one of the photoshoots came what might be my favorite picture of me I've ever seen!

The procrastination never ends. It's not that I have trouble working on things, it's just starting them. Especially for something like what I'm doing right now, at 2:40 AM Sunday night/Monday morning, researching for a huge speech a week from now. I just keep dicking around on the web, or laying down to take another 25 minute nap, or picking up my bass yet again, rather than settling down and getting to work. I thought I'd grow out of this. Nope, I just became craftier with it.
