  1. James Brown, 2Pac - "Unchained (The Payback / Untouchable)" - Django Unchained Soundtrack This song is just so much fun. So is the movie, you should see it!
  2. ^ I personally played it on PC, but I played the first few minutes of the first episode on my iPhone while it was free (maybe it still is, I dunno). It seemed to work just fine on my 4S, with some trivial stuff streamlined (like when Lee shuffles along the side of the car, on the PC you had to hold forward, while he does it automatically on iOS. It was meaningless, and was just there for some interactivity, so it doesn't matter). As long as you can get the story, you'll love it. ^^ Oh god, Super Meat Boy... I spent hours upon hours with that game, getting all A+'s in like the first four light worlds, and the first three or so dark world. I was gonna try to 100% that game, actually. Then I realized I like having hair I haven't torn out yet. If you're not crazy like me, though, it's fantastic, and it only gets better (read: harder) from there. Oh, and DAT SOUNDTRACK.
  3. Gojira - "The Heaviest Matter of the Universe" As the name suggests, it's heavy as %!@#, and it is AWESOME.
  4. Last night, my friends and I had a Tarantino mini-marathon, watching Pulp Fiction and then immediately going to the theater to catch Django Unchained. It was the first time I'd seen Pulp Fiction after hearing so much about it. It was... interesting. I mean, I loved it from start to finish, but I can't think of words to describe this movie. It just has to be seen to believed. Anyway, the moment everyone's been waiting for... Django Unchained is really, really good. But if you don't like violence, don't even think about seeing this: as should be expected from a Tarantino movie, the blood and gore are cranked up to eleven, then doubled. It's done in a darkly comic way, but in the big gunfight, they used fake blood by the gallon. If you can appreciate the silliness of it all, it's great fun. The story is easy to follow yet still incredibly enjoyable, the acting is some of the best I've seen all year (from all the leads equally: Foxx, Waltz, DiCaprio, and Jackson are all amazing), and it's overall just a hugely satisfying movie. If it interests you in the least, see it. You will not be disappointed.
  5. Last night, I sucked up all my fears and nerves, and finished Telltale's The Walking Dead. God. I just... this game is amazing. Everybody should play it. It's the best video game story I've ever come across. I've never felt so much for imaginary characters since... well, ever. Buy this game. Also, I got talked into buying Hotline Miami. I can't believe I'm saying this, since it's been called a "murder simulator" and is generally incredibly gruesome and disturbing, but this game is damn fun. It's more of a stealth game than anything else, and a freakin hard one at that, and there's a zen-like trance you fall into while perfecting each floor. I don't know how to explain it, but it's just really enjoyable.
  6. So I guess mail-in rebates have a very small window of time in which you can send them in. I had to learn this the hard way, meaning I get none of the three possible rebates from the hardware in the computer I built last month. $70 down the drain. And it's not like I can turn them in late and cross my fingers, they literally took the rebate forms for the products off their respective websites.
  7. ^ You know, that's the first time I've ever heard that comparison, but it's pretty sound. If you want more, check out the Darksiders bundle that's on sale for about $13 right now (frankly, an INCREDIBLE deal for a game that came out just a few months ago). Those games are often considered spiritual successors to games like Ocarina of Time, only much, much more dark, taking place in a post-apocalyptic world, starring two of the Four Horsemen. Jump on that deal if you're interested.
  8. Linkin Park - "Pts.OF.Athrty" (Reanimation) I don't know why, but I'm in the mood for this album while I get this mountain of schoolwork done.
  9. Never. I guess this means I've never known what it truly means to live, eh? When was the last time you screamed out loud? Also, irrelevant: I can't believe this thread is back, haha. I can't believe I made it over five years ago, and it's a thousand posts deep... This is pretty much my crowning achievement of the internet, until I someday make the front page of Reddit.
  10. This isn't mine (heck, I don't even have a Tumblr), but it's just too amusing to not share. Laughing Lizard.
  11. Here we go, vague and brief movie reviews because I tend to go on and on in my posts! The Green Mile: Disturbing, yet beautiful. Incredibly well-acted. I've never wanted to punch an antagonist in the face so much. Highly recommended. Drive: Loved it just as much the second time. Again, disturbing, yet so gorgeous. Slow and methodical, but at the same time brutal and intense. Give it a chance. Pride & Prejudice (2005): Beautiful cinematography, pretty good acting. Those long-take shots, man. I didn't particularly like the book, but this was a little better. I wouldn't watch it again, personally, but I can see why people would love it.
  12. Holy crap. Guys, if you have any interest in PC gaming, hold onto your butts. The Humble THQ Bundle has been released. Pay any amount over one measly dollar to get Darksiders, Metro 2033, Red Faction: Armageddon, Company of Heroes, CoH: Opposing Fronts, and CoH: Tales of Valor, and if you beat the average payment (currently $5.72), you get Saint's Row: The Third. Any amount, even under one dollar, will get you the soundtracks of the games as well. I know it sounds like I'm a spambot, but this is friggin incredible. THQ is in deep trouble as a company, and this is pretty much their last-ditch effort to get back on their feet, lest they be taken over by Ubisoft, so it's not all good, but from a consumer standpoint, HOLY CRAP. Too bad it's only available for Windows users, not Mac users, and Steam is required. But still.
  13. ^ As a fan of the book, I was a little worried because the commercials/trailers made it out to be the exact opposite of what you're saying. It looked like a big spectacle, a special-effects extravaganza like Avatar... I believed the movie was more deserving of a simple, minimalist style. But seeing as I've recently gained an interest in great cinematography (Drive <3), you may have just convinced me to see that movie.
  14. Cyber Monday has been abysmal for computer hardware thus far. The one and ONLY jaw-dropping sale was a 120GB Kingston HyperX Solid State Drive for $60, an awesome product that usually goes for about $140. And it was in stock for about thirty minutes before completely selling out. Every single other sale I've seen on hard drives, graphics cards, CPUs, heatsinks, cases, etc. have been rehashes of already-painfully-mediocre Black Friday sales, and rehashes of standard, poor sales, like $10 off something that's $200+. It's times like this that make me wish I lived near a Microcenter, and could just waltz in and pick up an i5-3470, the final piece of my computer to purchase... but no, the closest one is 300+ miles away, and the amazing everyday deal on them is in-store only.
  15. I'm spending my Black Friday at home, buying parts for a new computer. If anyone cares, here's my planned gaming rig: Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 Quad Core Mobo: Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3V mATX (bought!) RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 2x4GB (free with mobo!) Video card: HIS IceQ Radeon HD 7870 2GB Case: NZXT Source 210 Elite White Power: Corsair Builder CX600 600W (bought!) I'm planning on biting the bullet on the case, GPU, and a copy of Windows 7 tonight, then checking for a better deal on the processor tomorrow. Altogether, with the OS, the build adds up to about $650, which isn't too bad at all for a gaming PC.
  16. Gojira and the Devin Townsend Project are coming to Sacramento in January! After being super disappointed to miss Devin in San Francisco earlier this year with three other bands I really don't care for, this just made my day to find out about. I just recently started listening to Gojira, but I'm loving them, seeing them live and being able to buy a couple albums at the show will be awesome.
  17. Gojira - "Flying Whales" Now this... this I like. The vocals were a bit jarring at first, but I'm absolutely loving this band.
  18. Sooo.. it does what the Halo series has been doing for five full years now? But I had the same experience with the WiiU recently, I was very pleasantly surprised. The controller is far more comfortable than I expected, and WOW did Rayman Legends look and play amazing. I still probably won't buy the system, since I'm planning on building a new computer in the next couple of months, but I certainly won't dismiss it.
  19. Meshuggah - "Combustion" I'm still not sure if I like these guys or not. Their music is certainly not easy listening, but I don't really find it that fun to listen to, either. I keep hearing unending praise for their music, so maybe it just clicks at some point, like Devin Townsend's album Deconstructed did a few listens in.
  20. Mastodon - "Curl of the Burl" Ah, late-night epiphanies. This is exactly the sort of band that I've been looking for recently. A heavy, but not terribly downbeat and angry metal band that is a lot of fun to listen to.
  21. I wrote on my Facebook that I was in a metal mood and wanted recommendations. I did not expect this. I don't know what it is. But it is AMAZING.
  22. ^ Really? I found that the stories were told in a very straightforward manner, but I guess the fact that you have to follow six of them may put some people off. I liked that element a lot, personally. But yes, I saw Cloud Atlas last night. Since I tend to run on and on about movies, I'll try to condense this: SEE THIS MOVIE. Ignore the critics, please give it a chance. It's such a beautiful, engrossing, (god I hate this word) epic film that delivers on all fronts, leaving me glued to the screen for its entire 3-hour running time. My only criticisms are that the makeup can be a little bit distracting, and the neo-English spoken in the last story in the timeline is really difficult to understand. It's more than worth seeing in a theater, but that story may be improved with DVD subtitles. But it impressed me the whole way through. I loved loved loved it. 5/5.
  23. Coheed and Cambria - "Second Stage Turbine Blade" My sister's boyfriend lent me their first five albums today. Having only ever heard "Welcome Home" and the first few measures of "The Final Cut", I'm more than overwhelmed... this is gonna be fun.
  24. Hm, I guess I left my last post with a bit of a cliffhanger, huh? It's a bit late, but I may as well give you guys an update. The date went splendidly, and as of the 7th, Alia and I are in a relationship! It's going very well so far, even if we haven't been able to spend as much time together as we want to, simply due to school being really hectic for both of us. Once the fall play is over (we're both on different crews for it), we should have way more opportunities for dates, though. But still, I really enjoy being able to spend even a little bit of time with her every day. EDIT: Welp, nevermind. After an incredibly awkward week of not talking to each other at all, both of us knowing that everything was just off with our relationship, we ended it on mutual agreement tonight. The timing was just really bad for both of us, and I guess I'm still learning how to properly handle a non-long-distance relationship. Oh well, we're both totally fine and happier now, and we are most definitely going to stay friends.
  25. Personal statement essays suck. Making it even worse is that I have to write a response to Oedipus tonight as well. And find four viable sources for a research paper by Friday, the topic of which I don't even know yet. I'm debating between these two: 1. The extent and ethics of internet anonymity 2. The double standard between how sex and violence are viewed in the United States media Both seem meaty enough for my 2,000+ word senior paper, but I guess once I start to look for articles, it'll become more apparent which one is more viable for research.
