  1. We covered this awhile ago. The first car is the zero car in all invert cases minus Alpie.
  2. Derek pretty much explained it. Most Loops need more speed to be taken through it meaning it needs to be early in the ride. Not always first, but alot of times first. The reason for the element orders is mostly based on speed. Each element has an "optimal" speed through which its taken and gives the optimal feeling. A wingover wouldnt really feel the same if it were blown up 5 times larger. Just like trying to get a loop with hangtime at the top would be near impossible in a small form. The only types of rides that get away with distorting the order are Nemesis like rides where the ride is built near the ground and the ground is used (or abused in that case) to arrange the elements in a different order. The other factor are supports. Supports cost alot of money since its where most of the steel is at. You wouldnt suspend a small wingover/flatspin 150ft in the air because it would be pointless and the supports to support that would just up the cost plus it would look really, really stupid. For me it just goes back to the "Optimal" feeling/speed/forces for each element. Its the trend that Ive picked up on and even on a ride like Nemesis the Loop is STILL the largest element and the wingovers are standard sized. The Zero G is on the small end but still the middle sized element. The order is changed because of the topography of the area.
  3. Well, I did have to pass it up for monetary reasons. Plus, I heard theres like...a bajillion people registered which isnt exactly my idea of fun. I doubt they will have the three train op down pat by then (they barely were running 2 efficiently) so its safe to say itll be extremely packed. Should be wild at night though!
  4. BURN!!! And on top of that, ride Magnum. Even more airtime, never a long wait and higher than Blue Streak!
  5. Michigans Adventure I think some of these deserve a look. Pretty high quality and size. Plus theres a pretty good pano (maybe the best Ive seen) of all of Shivering Timbers.
  6. Is that a joke? Who are these experts and when was the last time they rode? Was it on one of those motion simulators?
  7. Dont say that! You arent allowed to say its anything like a steel coaster
  8. Best onride to date that I have seen is still from Robb and Elissa's wedding on ToT. The planning involved or pure spontinaety was genius. Theres so much going on and so many great poses.
  9. lol. Its just Elissa and Rob. They arent the end-all be-all of reporters. Its their opinion. Just go ride it and see for yourself.
  10. Thats hilarious. But I agree. It was complete blasphemy to ride anything other than Voyage on opening day as your first ride. Burn!
  11. I have to think they were in the least bit pleasently suprised. It has so many GCI-like features back in the turnaround and up near the station that its truely a combination of out and back and twister. However, its more twister than out and back because it doesnt just follow one path back or out. I had a friend point them out to me in line and I snapped the shot from the entrance to the station
  12. I highly doubt the height record is taken over again. I really think they are going for an inversion record. The last 3 rides all broke height records (Yes, Intamins Wicked Twister was the tallest of the bunch) The going in a new direction is what I hope is the sign that its inversions instead of height. Height is kind of blah. You can make the tallest coaster out there and if the layout isnt any good it means nothing (ala MF).
  13. Oh...wait? Is that who I think it is? Familiar faces enjoying The Voyage
  14. Hmm...why is this ride now being noticed? I remember seeing pictures of it like...4-6 months ago. It was called then the Yangsiao Speeding Coaster (something close to that). Want a REAL closet Intamin ride? Look up Zaturn. It is just a clone of Stealth though...
  15. Harry Traver Book I have that book. It has at least one very good account in it as well as plenty of pictures. A ride that was pretty much a clone but looked even more menacing (somehow) was Lightning. Then there was the Zips which...dont even get me started. It had some let-me-snort-some-crack-then-design-a-helix thing in it. Completely ridiculous. All of his rides (except I believe 1, maybe 2) survived past that dark, dark era of coasters which I wont mention.
  16. "relaxing in the hot tube." Your English cracks me up - in a good way. I also was wondering when you meant to say park you said "ark" and Im like...wtf? The ark was empty? What ark?!
  17. Japan Monkey Park? Where and How do they get these names?
  18. Trains look sweet. Not sure what you had in mind...
  19. That Disaster Transport talk was a long time ago. This was in a more recent episode. Look it up I dont have the link on hand.
  20. Kinzel did say that TTD was the worst investment so far. It was in a Motely Fool broadcast. Oh well. I still like it. If this next ride isnt an inversion breaker Ill like it more than that too!
  21. Hardly. None of those rides required new technology which is usually a precursor so denoting what a prototype is. And theres PLENTY of room left at CP. You just gotta look past your nose.
  22. IT could fit easily. Theres alot of water back there to utilize - thats why. And why get track? For this reason only. Cedar Point is one giant Media Whoring event. Even their crappy blog with two sub-par writers are proof of that. At first I thought it was an alright thing but now its nothing more than added advertising for a very cheap cost. I mean really, before SKyhawk they hyped it up like it was some big to-do. Remember the construction plans in the garbage can? Really now... Especially when the thing breaks the second day of use I dont think its going to be really big. I think this ride actually is going to require alot of ground work and alot to do with the water so naturally they are just setting a longer date so they can get certain things done before certain weather events. It wouldnt be the easiest thing to place footers in the freezing cold river and ponds of CP.
  23. http://www.rcdb.com/ig1646.htm?picture=10 Really? How does tri track count out Aqua Trax? Unless its a crazy sweet HYPER (not giga or beyond) with tons of airtime or airtime and inversions, Im not enthused in the least. CP always falls just a bit short of going all out. Something Voyage did.
  24. haha! I marathoned it for 2 days straight! However my thighs hurt from the airtime and it does take alot out of you. Heres my "short" review which doesnt go into detail about some of the finer points of the ride. Let me add the POV video DOES NOT DO IT JUSTICE. AT ALL. Thats an EMPTY train and what looks to be not in the afternoon after it heats up. With a full train in the mid-late afternoon its almost too much for the body to handle. And yet - still very smooth. I wont even waste the time to give the 2-4 letter words to describe it, those fall completely flat. Mythical this ride is. No other word I could think of, other than epic, describes this ride. I counted 22 moments of airtime of floater or above. Its excluding 2-3 moments that could be airtime but might be something else - what I dont know. 22 moments!!! The first day really had me in disbelief. Its the type of coaster that you design in No Limits. You throw in EVERY possible cool thing you can think of. Straight floater/ejector hills. Underground Tunnels. Double/Triple downs. Lateral airtime. Strong Lats. Sustained airtime. Strong pops of airtime. Twister sections. Station fly byes (x3). The list goes on. But whenever one of us tries it in NL it ends up coming out...not so buttery smooth. Some things gel well, others, not so much. It ends up being a showcase of elements and not a ride. The Voyage is itself the showcase. Somehow, all of those things I mentioned are bottled into one unbelievable package that flows from one thing to the next as if it ALL belonged. Time and time again Jeff, Kevin and myself kept saying "there is literally nothing, NOTHING to pick at." You could try, but the things you may end up saying are "Its a little too intense." or "Its a bit too long." As nitpicky as I could be I couldnt find a fault that could also be justified. Sure, its not perfect as maybe someday I will find something to say "maybe that should be different" but in the scale of what is out there vs what I envisioned as the dream ride - this is it. It has arrived. It made landfall. A play by play? Ill do that later. Ill sum things up by "element": First drop - front seat is a great view, little air. Back seat is STRAIGHT sustained ejector. Second drop - front is super sustained floater. Back is typical - ejector on the way over. Third drop - same as second but with more speed and more intensity + banking with slight lats Fourth hill - This is a low hill taken out of a tunnel and into a tunnel and taken with a turn in the middle. What does this give you in all seats? Sustained LATERAL floater. Bliss. Fifth hill - This is the hill that Will called "weak" which, in relation to the other 428 hills it may be weak but in front seat its half floater and the back is floater too. What gives? Twister turn around - Pyscho. 5 moments of strong air untill MCB. 8 changes in direction. Insane pacing. MCB - NOT FLAT. HAHAHA. Yea, it may be straight but it curves. HaHa to that myth. Triple down - front seat gets air on last 2 hills. Back seat gets floater over first 2 then awesome sustained ejector (pressed into bar hard) over what is actually a pretty large hill. Coming home - Theres 2 more straight hills with great floater, a twisting airtime hill which in the front gives strong lats with airtime. Theres another crossing over lateral airtime hill and then the last 90 which isnt as good as the first 2 but its still very sweet in any seat. (EDIT) I forgot to mention. The twisting hill before the last 90 degree turn is crazy because as you start down it (remember, youve been going downhill the entire way) you get this burst of speed that feels almost like a lim. Its where the terrain really drops off and the ride accelerates from around 40 to probably 55 mph. It is absolutly hauling and it was a complete shock. I cant think of many rides that as you got near the station actually accelerated (not counting powered/launched rides). Its ridiculous. Station work - The first cross over in front of the station that crosses over the lift is INSANE. Maybe the strongest lats of the ride as it enters very unbanked and then banks hard right like a GCI and dives under the station providing airtime. The cross over behind the station over the brake run is equally as insane. The final figure eight has a strong pop of airtime and just insane left right helix combos. Ill expand later on the turnaround and station area as well as key elements because each one is so unique it deserves its own explanation. The Voyage I really think will stand for quite some time. There are key factors that go into making this mythical andI cant off hand think of a park in the right setting with the right owner who would pour his heart and soul into the ride to make a ride that attempts to be the greatest ever built - and succeeds. Kevin made mention that even as long as hes been riding he cant remember seeing a design that was a full blown attempt at creating the greatest ride ever - till this. This ride delivers. If you can find a way there, the ride alone is worth the price. We were there for 2 straight days and rode Raven and Legend each ONCE. Not because they suck, but The Voyage is so captivating you have to ride it over and over. However, it will kick your butt after awhile. I was ok after Day 1 but shortly after the start to today my thighs hurt. Not from walkign. But from being destroyed by the airtime that pounded me into the lap bar. Best. Ride. Ever.
