Its a lift. Easy way to define this is the long distance and lack of continuous acceleration. Lift speeds can vary, but they vary small amounts over longer distances. Launches vary great amounts over shorter distances. Even though it uses LSM's, its just a LSM lift. Just get over the debate. If you cant figure it out, thats sad. -

Yea, it was hard to miss me. I went around the loop of the park almost twice. -

Did you see a guy in a blue long sleeve shirt carrying around a huge tripod? Several people saw me multiple times. I heard lots of "Hey, its that photographer!" and "Its that same dude we saw back at 'insert ride' " -
October, Friday the 13th and the 14th. Not much to report since I havent ridden a single ride since it started, just taken pictures. Other than some advice from things Ive observed: Fridays - Since its only a half day from 6pm to 12pm, make sure weather is decent. They only run half the rides so when some of those are down to high winds (normal this time of year) or too cold (again normal) it kind of sucks. However, its ALWAYS dead. If you want your Dragster of MF rides, this is the day to do it. Also the perfect time to hit up the haunted houses because on Saturday those lines will rival Dragster and MF. Saturdays - Avoid it. Dont even touch it unless you want to wait 1.5+ hours for the Raptor. Even the DONUT shop had a wait time of like 20 minutes just to get in the door. Yes, I walked by and took some pictures of WT, came back and the same dude that was at the end of the line wasnt even in the door yet. Dragster and MF will be smashed all day and theyve only had one side of Skyhawk running making some fairly long lines there as well. Overall, its a nice day to walk around, maybe ride a few things you didnt on Friday. Hit up the Houses. The lines will be unbearable. Sundays - If you can do even a half day before you leave you wont regret it. Its only open till 8 so typically, every Sunday Ive been there during this month its dead. Itll get more dead later on as people leave but generally Ive gotten more than my share of rides. I believe it was a Sunday that Nemesis, 42, my sister and I waited no more than 15 minutes for Dragster. We rode 4 times in an hour including a front seat ride. Sunday the scare zones wont be open but the houses should be. Another good day. All in all, do the 3 day weekend and avoid Saturday all together. Ive been taking lots of pictures, mostly (if not all) at night. Ive also started messing around with making my own HDR (High Dynamic Range) pictures and a couple have turned out rather cool and I can see the awesome effect it gives. Enjoy! All new photos are at the ends of the list Updated Galleries: Wicked Twister Top Thrill Dragster Millennium Force Halloweekends Corkscrew Skyhawk Maverick Coming soon - More Skyhawk, hopefully some daytime updates of everything as well. Examples: From way back on the beach. Yum. Love new angles. MF in HDR! OMG Its the Monster!! Scary moon. Oooo. Beach shottage. Love it. He stood still for a good 20 minutes. He (or she) was mostly just a decoy.

So many GREAT HDR moments you could have had...look into it. Its not very hard to do, even without the use of a HDR program. Though, a few do exist for not much. Great pictures. Would love to see them redone with HDR. -

The heartline roll is up. This could be one of the single most craziest elements Ive seen in awhile. http://maverick.cedarpoint.com/latest/gallery/ http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/webcams/webcam.cfm?chip=2 -
My girlfriend and I are huge fans. We are climbing up the list on # of shows and I recently told her at our last show we are officially groupies now. La Nouba (lost count) Quidam Varekai Drallion Most likly going to hit Vegas up in the next year and see Ka, O and Mystere which will only leave us with a few to wait for before weve seen them all. I refuse to go see Zumanity because its nothing more than a burlesque show. Alot of you are like "uhh...duh - thats why you go see it" but even if alot of it is art with the human body, well, Ive seen enough clips to know its a bit trashy too. Hence why its only in Vegas and not widely known.

PETA strikes again. Elissa called this one.
Real replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I hope that none of the PETA drive cars. The amount of bugs that you kill while driving (not to mention things you can drive over) is just astronomical. Same thing. Infact, Id rather people eat the bugs - get some protiens and nutrients than for them to just be splattered all over my cars front bumper. Silly PETA. -

Looks like they are installing the heartline right now. I bet before the end of the week we see updates from the CP website with pictures around that roll and hill. -

My thoughts exactly. I love airtime as much as the next person, but IMO, what makes a coaster - especially a wooden coaster - great is that violent, out-of-control feeling of being thrown wildly in all directions. I can name like 8 signature moments. And if you thought it was running as crazy at Holiwood nights during the day, then I feel alot better. I rode it in early August (probably running similar to now) and I go to ride it at like 9:50pm and OMG it was the single most insane ride ever. Ive never felt like a train could ever ride so insane that it might, might break something off itself. But it felt like it could. The difference (as usual, but seemed greater) from day to night was...well, night and day. -

Easily will be the best ride at CP. Crushing MF and pulling far ahead of Dragster. Itll be far better than Raptor but at least its similar in style with all the directional changes. Watch those interviews: I really get the feeling that the corporate offices of CP are "unsure" about this ride. In most of the interviews they seem rather apprehensive about it not being super high or fast. Kinzel himself doesnt seem to really be much enthusiastic about it and the others just seem to have this "we arent sure about this" attitude. Is it just me? I just really feel that they know no other way to produce a good ride and that its been so long since theyve installed something of pure quality that theyve forgotten. I think they will be pleasantly suprised. Its everything those "record breakers" arent and thats whats going to make it better than anything there. -

That was exactly what I was hoping. You couldnt put in my fave (TGG) because of size and most importantly - maintenance but I figured an Intamin wood would be perfect for CP. Super low maintenance, controlled experience and suitable for a large age range. Plus it can push the envelope more than a traditional wood and still be controllable and rideable for all ages. Plus it will age well. Heck, if someone supplies the gas/propane Ill supply an inconspicuous flame if you soak Mean Streak with the propane first -

And possibly some other rides being relocated or taken out all together. As I figured, they started early because alot of ground work will be done. -

Element change on B&M's
Real replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Two different types of rides with two different trian types that just share an element that has a similar shape but completely different feelings. But the pretzel on Speed monster will really only work on a ride that small unless you blow the pretzel up alot because you need small trains. The transitions have to be fairly quick and with a long train your G's in the back of the train and front would vary too much I think for a company to do it. I could probably do it in NL but its just different. -
I really hate the press sometimes....
Real replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
And it's a link to become a premium member of their site. It annoys me on several levels because: 1. It's blowing something completely out of proportion. And.... 2. They are using THIS...of all things going on in the world...THIS is what they are using as bait to get people to join their site???? Based on this I will never, ever go to Motley Fool again... --Robb "Can you tell I'm annoyed?" Alvey OO. That presents a double edged sword. While I agree, thats pretty low. They ARE the only news/stock site I have ever seen that regularly reports on amusement parks and hits them perfectly each time. I mean really. When they said that parks could learn from Holiday World (whos not publically traded) that means youve done your research. -

Their position gets them "in the know". Thats what I meant. Their position being so visible makes it perfect for advertising. -
Phantasialand Discussion Thread
Real replied to roeterich's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
We covered this awhile ago. The first car is the zero car in all invert cases minus Alpie. Well, yea I know that the first two cars of all B&M trains only articulate rotationally. but as far as I knew, the term 'zero-car' meant the first car with no seats, ala Alpengeist, which is the only one with it. What would be the puppose of pointing out that Black Mamba has a zero-car, if one is refering to the design style that all B&M inverts have? I was wondering the same thing. It made no sense. -

ID like to know where they got this information from. I do not believe a word that any employee says - ever. Only a small portion are coaster geeks who would even know who makes the track let alone know the design. If the two writers (restraining from calling them names) had to get "in the know" I doubt anyone else knows. Anything that Screamscape says or anyone else is pure fiction at this point with no validity. -

Yea, that ride looks hot. A wider lens would probably give a much better feel for the speed. Not that you didnt know that Back seats gotta be the place to be. -
You just put it anywhere and install it. Then you open up your track from that program and press the node smoother. Select an option or two then press Ok and its done. Just remember, it might not always come out like you want it too. The track still needs to be in relatively good shape. Its kind of like running a medium/fine grit sandpaper over a peice of wood. Itll come out better but not perfect. No, you cannot purchase the full version. The developer does not sell the full version anymore.

Can someone answer a DeJaVu ?.....
Real replied to coasterfriendly's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What do you mean by not latching down? Most all come down till they rest against you then are secured by a seat belt. You have multiple mechanisms in the restraint plus the seat belt which pretty much usually ensures you go NO where. -
Element change on B&M's
Real replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The first Element on Fire is an Immelman, then airtime hill, then another Immelman followed by a sick helix then into a loop then a turn around, wingover, turn, wingover, turn then done. Ice has the Zero G, Cobra and one wingover. Sidewinder is one term for an immelman but mostly for Vekoma installations. /end technicality.
