  1. They're not bad. Perhaps it's different in the back row (both my rides were front seat) but as I said before, through 2 rides I experienced ZERO banging against the restraints. It's simple - see a turn coming and lean in that direction. As long as you have a general idea of the layout and you don't sit there like a motionless rag doll, you should be fine. Closer I rode to the front the worse the rotational forces were on my upper body. In the back row it was far easier to tolerate and the rotational forces were a bit lower resulting in a "smoother" ride. Notice the quotes. Still easily best ride there.
  2. Yay for photos! Wicked Twister in High Def! 3. Well Flipdude...few things. You wont ever find a short TTD line and a long Maverick line, so dont worry. Secondly, the air is insane and I doubt many will think the air was meh - only the most hardcore pessimists will think that. Thirdly, Ill protest TTD the entire year if I have to make my point. Maverick makes all but two other rides (magnum and Raptor) pointless to ride.
  4. Doesnt always mean the companies follow those rules... But yea, it seems pretty lame. Driver falls asleep and swerves left of center but its your job to avoid it? lol! Id take whoevers car I could find, drive straight down to the company and do some talkin if I could find someone.
  5. Thanks! I havent heard from any of my rides in awhile partly because I havent had time to put into any new rides. Its really nice to hear someone else enjoyed this ride. Its one of my faves to ride in the sim and Im not sure why. But it was definitly when I was trying to design a better ride than a mediocre ride with good theming. I wanted to show all you need are some great elements, good supporting and some foot/head choppers and its all the entertainment you need.
  6. 5 rides in 1 hour and 45 minutes - Single Ride line anyone? Rides in: Row 3 Row 4 Row 6 Obviously row 6 is the winner. The drop actually doesn't have the most intense G's - or its super comparable to the airtime hill. But it is its own feel. I think this definitely compares to the G-train 97 degree hills because the trains are so much longer. The name of the game on Maverick is transitional forces. I watched it test for an entire day with the roll and that was what I came to find out something like 80% speed because they were trying to find a speed that worked. There were quite a few brake fins that day on the hill and it didn't seem to take the course like it did today. The entire ride is deceiving. Of course, we know the transitions are nuts but its a nuts that you probably still aren't totally ready for. Most of them are done very well but you still cant help but end up knocking yourself around a bit. An interesting bit though is that all of the places I hurt after the ride were from lateral airtime. Which is cool because it shows that most of the lateral transitions are laced with airtime - and they are. As expected the airtime hills are fabulous - simply awesome with boat loads of air. The "Horseshoe Roll" or "2 Zero G's connected by a turn" provide floater to negative hang-time depending on the time of day and seat. They are NOT corkscrews. They are almost most definitely taken more in a straight line and thus you get that nice zero g floater feeling at the apex. The hill over the water is braked pretty hard (for having even fewer fins its crazy) and there isn't much air over the top of that hill. I haven't heard it mentioned, but if theres a poorly designed part of this ride - this is it. The transition from the top of that hill into the diving turn just sucks. From all seats you get a nasty lateral jolt and you gotta hold onto the restraints and brace to not get completely knocked by it. Specially in back seat. The new S Curve isn't as good as the others but its there. By this point your body has been pummeled by some serious forces and I still hold a slight hope that something is re-designed during the off season (Intamin owes them) but regardless the 2 ensuing Stengel Dives are nasty - but sweet. Half of my rides we dualed with the train coming down the drop and thats almost surreal. You feel exactly like the video. You can even look down while on the dives to see the train below zig-zagging through the canyons. Very, very cool. The final airtime hill I felt had more air than described - maybe -.5 to -.7 but I did get my rides at night. Even from 7pm to 9:30pm there was a huge improvement each ride. Our final ride in the back seat was insane. The entire ride felt quite a bit faster and transitions were notably quicker. Overall - True Winner. Its been since Raptor that we've seen such a complete ride. Mantis might count, but the trains just suck too much and theres too many problems with it. Maverick is finally and truly a ride that proves that bigger isn't better. For those who felt the area was too sparse - theres no way more track would fit without going more vertical. The rides turns and twists are already borderline too intense. Any more crazy track squeezed in there would mean taking out the theming and ruining the area. It would just look like another spaghetti bowl and that would be pointless back there. I'm thoroughly impressed and cant wait for halloweekends so I can marathon this thing using the single riders line (which is just a girl coming down every 10 minutes asking for single riders then taking you up to the front of the line to wait). I'm sure Ill pick up on more nuances but 5 rides tonight gave me a great feel for the different parts of the ride. Oh and Red - you do get wet on the ride so I could claim to have ridden in some "rain like" conditions. Final conclusion: Totally insane. I'm a total wooden coaster guy but this ride is insane. It borders on almost too intense and the laterals in the transitions are whacked out. I really felt like I was back on Voyage a few times because the transitions are SO fast and so abrupt. Its not better than the almighty Voyage but man, for a steel coaster, its WAY up there on my list - maybe #1. I need another day or two and I need to see if Front Seat is any good but its already threatening Storm Runner (for me) for #1. Insane. Crazy. You run out of those words to describe.
  7. Does everyone here just skew words? Drachen Fire had an element that was too rough - was removed pretty early. Maverick had an element thats too rough - removed before opened. I'm pretty sure that makes them similar. Will it be fully removed? Of course not. Don't be silly. Also the comparisons to the other rides are on base. Dragster had an issue with one of the cars on each train and it had to run with 4 cars per train rather than 5 for a good couple weeks. Then it lost a wheel (thankfully on the right side of the car) and the theming, ALL, was taken off. Those were both design flaws - fairly major - that were taken care of. MF has had reliability issues and we've seen 2 or 3 cables snap. I'm certain a cable will snap again because its just the nature of steel - it needs maintenance and any piece of that steel could have a fault that goes unnoticed and snaps. WT used to kick up to almost full speed on its first backwards trip but now it doesn't even speed up evidence is the lack of noise from the LIMS. That was done to reduce the force exerted on the spikes that couldn't handle it and were stress fracturing. Those are just the Intamin rides at CP. Quite frankly, its very similar to compare those to a ride that needs an entire element replaced because of a design flaw that had two adverse effects - train wear and rider discomfort. If I wrote every park that had major issues Id have probably went over a character limit.
  8. It wouldn't become the next Drachen Fire. In reality, it already has - it just didn't open before the problem was caught. I heard this was Stengels 500th coaster. What a shame they either couldn't figure out a solution, or, they weren't given enough time. Either way - whether you wanted the element or not, its pathetic. Cp couldn't open Dragster at full tilt its first few weeks. MF has had numerous issues with cable and lift motor (not to mention its just not that exciting of a ride). WT doesn't run the same as its first 2 months. They cant seem to open a ride lately that opens in its final condition and runs for a few years without any major implications. We gotta go back to Mantis I believe (not counting kiddie rides) and its since then been neutered. Hopefully with this S-Curve they can take off one of those brakes up there or increase the launch speed back to what they thought (or higher) since the only laterals they had to worry about were the heartlines. Because I watched it test ALL day this week and theres NO airtime over that hill. None.
  9. If you could trust 90% of parents these days with their kids I dont think it would be problems to have the limits where they were or even right at the bottom of the manufacturers limits. But when I think of all the stupid things Ive seen parents let their kids do and then kids do...while I agree its a totally assinine move, it doesnt suprise me.
  10. What I consider as pure ownage is that HW met their mark of 1 million visitors last year. CO only had 3 million. Sure, its a sizeable gap but compare the sizes and statures of both parks. Its amazing that CP only brought in that many and that HW squeezed that many people in for the rides and water park they have. Crazy.
  11. DUDE Alcatraz...I completely need to get there. Id bet they do some ghost hunts/activity things there sometimes? Ive been to the Ohio Reformatory and its SWEET. And that mailbox does rock. Hard.
  12. Probably has alot to do with getting the stators to fire correctly. Doesnt suprise me that speed would be an issue during testing till its firing on all stators.
  13. While I agree that height and girth are the only limits that can be tested at the scene, I digress that having other rules like bad backs and pregnant mothers are useless too. The only case in which you will win is if you dont know you have a bad back or are expecting which...in how many cases will you honestly not know? If my back is screwed up and I ride a coaster that messes it up further, I went on knowing I could get hurt. Being just at the stick should allow a point where you can write off your rights to ride. Like almost something to do at the front gate. I have seen ride ops allow kids just a shade under, like, where you can tell its their thick hair but it still hits the stick and they get in fine. Those limits are limits but I remember wanting to ride the go karts and my parents stuck cardboard inserts into my shoes because I was just a shade under. Safe? Yea. I could still function in the cart fully. However, had I been just an inch shorter and it would have been a problem. Im fairly certain that the limits set by the manufacturer are around 1 inch conservative. I think alot of the ride op training should include how to deal with people. Ive seen some who can, but most who cant. Most people dont want to be patronized, just told the truth. Not, "Your too tall - leave now" but probably "You are too tall for the restraints to close to a safe level." Ive seen lots of incidents avoided because a ride op took the time to treat the guest as a human, not a statistic. Im pretty sure Ben wouldnt even have needed to post this if the ride op handled it differently.

  15. Slow down buddy, when I posted he had the phrase "ahg" in his topic - so its fair game. You act like the topic was on fire with conversation anyways. Hes finalizing the ride (or so it seems) so when hes got more info hell post it and all will be jolly.
  16. All Loops have a vertical section. If not, you couldnt loop over yourself. Im still not getting what you are saying. I also have not run into the problem you describe with the Elementary. As Jakizle said, its all user error. If you arent pulling positive G's over the top, of course itll screw it up. But if it does, and you have the correct values it works every time. Post up an example of what you are talking about because it sounds like you are really missing out because of some ignorance of the program.
  17. Strange. Ive never had the AHG ever screw up a loop, dive loop, immelman, or any element aside from a nearly perfectly vertical spike. In which case I made the spike 89.8 or something stupidly close and it worked great. Weird. Must be the user and not the program.
  18. Few more - again, ripped from site with crappy border - cant be bothered to edit it. All at half size. To CP Halloweekenders- If you know who was in this costume, tell him I said THANKS! Same for this guy! Both stood still awhile as I took long exposures.
  19. Wont be submitting... Our manager at UPS decided to threaten all of our jobs till we can recite a 3page - 156answer test verbatim and then turn around and fill out a 25 page front and back methods test. Basically Ive felt like I was in school.
  20. Strangly enough, I believe on the same day (last night or night before for me) that R and E had Kristen, I had a dream that my fiance and I (then married) had our first child. Wierd thing is, I just now today came to the site to see that she had been born. Slightly creepy, though Im sure im not the only person in the world who had a dream like that. I know I want kids, didnt know that my subconsious wanted one that badly. Too bad for it, its gotta wait a bit longer.
  21. Nice job being super judgmental AND not even taking the time to help him with other parts of the ride. Nice.
  22. Carnage - Thats probably true 50% of the time. The other 50% someone has to get out because they didnt bother to check if they were too large or not. Which, even though one train may be completely loaded, they usually dont dispatch untill both trains are ready. I agree, with no problems, load way faster than needed. But theres always the person who doesnt pay attention to the rules and bucks the entire system.
