  1. I'm still wondering if each train rides differently. It would make sense though. If one person rides in one train and says it's rough and another person rides in a different train and says it's smooth, it would support my theory. Norm could mean that the trian rides "normally" or smooth. Stucky could mean that the trains are rougher. Scratch could mean that the train runs smoother than Stucky, but rougher than Norm. Could it be the wheels?
  2. I think more people would rather be spectators to actually do it. I personally don't know if I would do it. I guess it would really depend.
  3. 2 years ago I think Knoebels had their Cosmotron go backwards. I personally think that has to be one of the best Music Express's I've seen and rode.
  4. What else could they have given you? It's not like they can give you a free ticket to come back to the park since it's free to get in. How did they evacuate you guys anyway? I will be coming to the park at the beginning of August for 4 days in a row! I really hope FT to be open, but I don't see that really happening unfortunately.
  5. ^^We're going to try to make the supports look like steel collumns using a technique Jogumpie tried for one of his coaster models. We also plan on having metal support rods going through the center to give some more strength. The whole coaster will be assembled on a plywood platform in sections and yes we do realize how much we would need. ^I do believe we will do some prototype testing before we go to the actual model. We will figure out the friction, height, and speed before we go big. We all do have some experience building with K'nex. Some of us have been doing it for awhile.
  6. To be awnest with you guys IMO we didn't really do our best on the Kingda' Ka coaster. There was a lot more we could've done and we apalogize for that. I never really knew that I'd be involved in helping with the coaster. Last Monday I went down to take pictures for the site, but then I decided to help out with it and now I'm helping out with the next coaster we plan to do: A recreation of Fahrenheit. This time we're going for quality instead of quantity and try to make this thing a realistic as possible with scenery. And since we used up a good amount of K'nex cars with our last coaster, we will custom make our own coaster cars for this one. The height of the vertical lift hill will be 12 to 15 feet and everything else will be on a 1:10 scale. We are still planning and this time we will more than likely use the pieces from our last project if it doesn't sell on eBay. For the last 2 days I am already designing the cars. They will be approximately the size of the screamin' serpent cars and but they will be built out of a sturdier material than plastic. More coming soon. The section between the top wheels is where the lift dog and braking system will be. We're still planning that. Just ignore the lines on the hood. If I delete them, it would ruin it.
  7. We basically got most of the K'nex from donations and that was $6,000 worth. Expect a new thread solely for the Fahrenheit Project coming possibly tomorrow!
  8. Here's the video. It just seems so cheesey IMO. I probably think it's going to be called Hellcat or something.
  9. Brandon would still need to figure that out, but I think K'nex will regonize it as the world's tallest freestanding coaster. This afternoon we moved all the pieces to be moved to a drier location and reassemble the parts and glue them together. We will then put the coaster on eBay for sale. Also some good news, but it's not confirmed yet. Our next project may be recreating Fahrenheit at Hersheypark out of K'nex.
  10. It's great that we're getting all this together. Sorry Matt that I haven't been able to help out much this week, I've been kind of busy. I should be less busy starting Sunday.
  11. We have some bad news. Yesterday was pretty windy out and you could probably guess what happened next. At 11:04 AM a big gust of wind came along and caused the world's tallest K'nex roller coaster to collapse. That morning Brandon got the coaster car only 3 feet from the top. If the weather wasn't as bad, we would've gotten it over. That afternoon we all cleaned up most of the pieces and placed them into seperate bags. When we got most of those done, we all went down the street for dinner to celebrate the world record achievement. When we got back we all did a little PR since the carnival was open and people were walking up to it. Around 6:30 2 friends of mine came and I decided to hang out with them for a little bit. 1/2 hour later a storm came in which caused me say goodbye to them and run back to the K'nex coaster when it's pouring down rain because I had my camera sitting out. Luckly for me I had it in a case, so only that was wet, not the camera. After the storm went by we picked up more pieces and called it a day. Today we plan to reassemble the coaster again in sections and glue the pieces together and plan to sell it on eBay. We are all thinking about getting a team together and thinking about our next project. HP's Fahrenheit? The Eiffel Tower? EDIT: Here are a few pictures from yesterday. They might be a little bright, but I had the camera set on nighttime. More soon. Here's the carnival from the coaster site. A bunch of other sections that somehow managed to stay together. POV on the launch track (or what's left of it). This is what's left of it.
  12. It's not my project. I'm only helping out with it. By the way, Brandon said that K'nex is going to try to get Guinness to fly out before we take it down which might be tomorrow. This coaster might be on eBay for sale.
  13. Alright. I don't have any pics to show you guys, but hopefully I will tomorrow of today's progress. We did a massive renovation on the incline. It was smooth on Tuesday but not smooth enough. We were having a problem of the car rocketing down the launch track at such a fast spped that it would just plow into the base of the incline and shatter the pieces (in one case it would throw pieces into the nearby parking lot which was over 25 feet away). The highest launch we got today was just 4 feet from the top or just before the turn. Just be fore we called it quits we tried launching it vertically (like the other guy did). We used one rubberband chain, pulled it back as far as we could and we got it up to the 4th support. All we will need is a few more rubberbands and more power and we should be able to have this thing over by tonight. Here are a few news links: From Monday: http://wfmz.com/view/?id=291140 From Tuesday: http://video.nbc10.com/player/?id=271662#videoid=271661 This video briefly shows the modified incline, but we re-did this one. More Soon.
  14. We got a lot done yesterday. We fixed the track and added a few pieces to make it a gradual incline and figured out the best was to launch this thing and we almost got it over the top! We used 4 people holding a couple chains thick of rubberbands. We launched the car and it got between the top support brace and the second from last support brace. Today is the day it will work. This thing will be on national news today so keep watching! If anyone's in the area I reccomend you to come and see it! No TR today. I was too busy helping out and getting stuff and it will probably be the same way today.
  15. Rodeo is also getting removed too. It looks like Screamscape was 100% right about this.
  16. It's that time of year again, but this year at the Greater Governor Mifflin Community Days, there's something new. Fellow student Brandon Moyer plans on breaking the record for the world's tallest roller coaster. The coaster he picked to design and build was KingDa' Ka at SFGADV. The coaster standing 36 feet tall seemed like a monsterous task to assemble and it took a year or two design. It required one fire truck, a lot of rope, TONS of k'nex pieces, scaffolding, and a lot of nerves all on one basketball court, but a loss here would end up being disastorous. I didn't get there until 2:15 and by this time there were 5 main pieces ready to be put together; the top hat's base, the mid-section, the top, the rabbit hop,and the launch track with the final turn. All the pieces for the top hat were lifted up by a fire truck with a ladder and placed at their appropriate spots. After a long afternoon the top hat was ready to be placed. Their was so much tension in the air that you could've cut it with a knife. The final section was lifted up to the base and after a little hand power, at around 4:00 PM it was unofficially world's tallest K'nex coaster, but a lot of work still needed to be done and there were still a few problems that still needed to be solved. After the top hat was finished, there was a slight breeze going and the tower was bending and twisting slightly and since we were all limited on K'nex pieces I made a call to my parents and told them to see if they could bring down some of my K'nex. Doing this made the base of the tower a little wider and more sturdy. By this time I had to leave for bowling practice, but was going to come back later to help out a little more. 3 or 4 hours later.... By this time the whole track layout was placed together, but there were stil a few problems with the launch system. At the base of the top hat, the car would launch at a fast speed that the train would just keep going straight and go between the track and tear up the transition to the hill. At this point it was time to call it a day and work on it tomorrow. At this point I decided to go in to the carnival. The carnival was the same as last year execpt for the rides being in a parking lot instead of a field. But some of my favorite rides were there like the Ring-of-Fire. The Ring-of-Fire seemed better than last year. The hangtime was incredible, but I had a tough time getting out of the cars and it only stopped at the top once. 9/10. Time to ride the wildest flat rides ever concived: The Zipper. The Zipper strangly had a No Single Riders policy so I had to get paired up with somebody. This had to be one of the most intense rides I've ever been on! Also a word of advice: NEVER ride when you have a headache. 10/10. I should've stopped here with the rides, but I next made one of the stupidist mistakes since the time I went to Hersheypark back in December. The Rainbow. This was a BIG mistake. About 10 seconds after the ride started, I felt sick. Luckly I managed to hold it in even after I decided to talk to one of my friends who works at the Apple Dumpling and Sticky Bun stand. After the rides I walked off my sickness with my friend and I showed her the coaster again and she seemed very intersted in it. After I said goodbye to her, I got an Apple Dumpling and left. Here's some pictures of the K'nex Coaster. Expect another update for Day 2 by tomorrow. I'd like to thank Brandon for letting me take pictures of this record-breaking occasion. Stay tuned for more! Done! A few more inches.... Almost there..... We have lift off! All systems are go. This is the base. Brandon showing how the launch will work. The launch track. The top of the Top Hat. Here's most of the jobsite This is what's going to be lifting the pieces into place. The base and the top of the top hat waiting to be assembled.
  17. I'm going in August, but here's what I typically do. Get a pay-one-price wristband. This is very handy because you won't have to keep emptying your pockets for tickets. Ride the Skyride. This ride has one of the greatest views of not just the park, but the whole mountainous region. Do all the coasters. Even though their collection is small, they're one of best in the country. Eat lunch or dinner at the Alamo but get there early. The line to get in fills up quickly depending on the days.
  18. I think those are some of the most perfect shots at the park I've seen. Great TR!
  19. I think it is now confirmed that Canyon River Rapids and Rodeo are going to be removed. On a Hersheypark fansite, someone has posted numerous pictures of servey markers around Rodeo and Canyon River Rapids. http://www.hpbuzz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=15 Tomorrow, we will know all....
  20. Before, I used to be scared of coasters. My first real coaster was Trailblazer at Hershey and after the first ride, I liked it. A year later I rode it again and hated it. A few years later I was on a class trip and I really wanted to get over my fear of coasters so I got on Lightning Racer. As I was going up the lift I couldn't beleive how high I was up, but then I came to the first drop. I was so freakin' scared of how steep it was that I almost wanted to never ride them again. But toward the end of the ride I started to like it and that's when it clicked. Since then I always wanted to ride them. I also have a friend who is also afraid of coasters and heights, but I kinda want her to get over her fears so she could see what she's been missing.
  21. We still need help with the site! Matt (HPCrazy) and me have been trying to find people to help us get our site up for over a year and a half and we haven't got anywhere. We need help in these areas: -Logo Design -Web Design (We need a professional site to be made) like KIExtreme. -Forums -Video and Picture Donations (all credit will be given to their suppliers) -Moderators -Writers and a lot more! If you're interested on helping us just PM either Matt or me or post below what you're willing to do or if you have any questions or comments.
  22. Sounds like I could possibly get the credit next month! This is good news and I can't wait!
  23. To clear some things up. ZooAmerica will not be removed since it has been around since the late 1970's and is still popular. The parking lot between the stadium and arena is sill being used as a bus parking area. Don't expect anything to happen here.
  24. You hit it right on the money. I feel no sympathy for the family. They should've taught their kid to know better and why should we show any sympathy for them if they try to defend their kid and say it wasn't his fault? You got this right also. A lot media (TV and newspapers) are clearly rewriting news stories to support another person or opinion and brainwash the public with their own strange and wierd beliefs. I'm not going to go deeply into this, but if you watch one news network or read one newspaper and read or watch another, you're going to get a completely different story and this is a great example of this. The real story said that he wanted to see if he can touch the rider's legs, but now we're hearing that he wanted to get his hat. They kind of wanted to make the story sound like it was no big deal and that it could happen all the time, but IMO this has to be the stupidest person ever involved in a preventable ride accident. I'm done.
  25. Thunder Dolphin kind of impresses me because of how it's built and it's height. It truely is a great piece of architecture. I really want to ride it someday. Great TR and pics so far!
