Hersheypark 2011 [RCT3]
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
The past few days became a time for me to create some custom scenery buildings for the park, but since yesterday, I've decided that I needed to cut down on the buildings I would need to make. Right now I am currently adding detail to the park like GB's supports, path covers, and buildings that will not be CS. Below are a bunch of pics that I took of what I have so far, but the last one was sent to me just this morning by an anyonomus person. I wonder what it could be? The person said that he will fill me in tonight on what it will be. Merry Christmas! ....I wonder what this is? More details tonight! Great Bear's Supports should be interesting to build. Tram Circle even includes the famous entrance sign. Tudor Square is starting to get some character. -

I wouldn't say I'm upset about this because these things can't last forever. Even the best coasters around today may eventually be removed. HSTC operated for nearly 60 years with passengers not only being kids, but also Coaster Enthusiests and grown-ups. Normally a kiddie coaster wouldn't hold these kinds of passengers often. I've already got two rides on it and it produced a lot of airtime (just about as much as Phoenix). As far as the Golden Nugget rumor, it would sound possible for Dick to buy something like this. These guys do love to recreate and move rides that have historical segnifigance, but where would they put it? They could place it near the Skloosh and take out a few picnic pavilions, but any other place would either affect the atmosphere or space the park needs. -

Are you on a laptop? When I played RCT3 on my laptop, the water was just like you described --James Nope. Just on a regular computer. I have my settings on High Quality, but maybe if I go custom and boost the detail it might work. -
Well, SF already invested in toys, video games, and now haircuts so it could be possible.

I plan on having it dive under the second drop then leap over the base of the first drop. I answer the second question.... I really have no idea! Right after the Kingda ka coaster was finished, the pieces were bagged and I got all the track connectors, track, and half of the pieces that were used on the coaster (the other half were sold I think). Right now I have 5 motors, 3 or 4 wind-up thingys, a bag or two filled with flexible rods, a 22 gallon container filled to the top with K'nex, and the same with track (some that wasn't even used). Right now I only have half of the pieces in the container, but I'm only down to a few handful's of dark blue star pieces. I plan on having the supports on the return to mostly branch off of the existing supports. -

This will be the last update I will do with my old camera. Hopefully by next week I will get a new and better digital camera which will be high def. I've gotten a lot done yesterday (more than I thought I would). The last turn before the 2nd lift hill is done, and the brake run and last lift hill are finished. The first and second lift hill are about the identical heights (around 4 1/2 feet) and instead of just doing a straight drop like the first, the second will turn. The final sections of the ride will be mostly close to the ground, and since I want to make this coaster unique, I want to have the coaster criss cross over and under the lift hill, first drop, and second hill and then do some type of special element at the end of the ride that's never been done on a hyper coaster. In other news, I went out and bought X-mas lights specially for the coaster. Comment and (or) citicize. Here's what I plan on doing in the next update. The second lift hill. The turn before the MCBR. The skyline in my grandmother's basement looks a little different this week... -

The park looks great so far. By the way, how do you get the water to look like that? The water in my parks always looks blue and unrealistic. -
Two new objects have been made (1 was updated). Each object that is made will have two or more pictures about it. One will show the real-life object and the other will be the object in the game. Because of game speed, I cust some of the details out of the object, but don't be afraid! The object still resembles the real one! Tram Circle Hersheypark Sign To the far edge of the Tram loop closer to Tudor Square is a sign which welcomes visitors to Hersheypark.... now it's going to be in the game! I previously made a 2007 version sign, but since it would look unrealistic in the 2008 version of the park. Tram Circle Guest Services building This building is the perfect place to wait for trams weither it's rainy or sunny out. This place is also home to Lost and Found as well. These objects will be included in the Version 1 download when it will be posted. Comment please. The RCT3 in-game version of the Guest Services Building. The real Tram Circle Guest Services building. Photo by HPCrazy The RCT3 object version of the sign. The real Tram Circle sign.

I know it's a little late, but since I'm a little bored right now, I think I might post my TR for my Hersheypark trip from a week or two ago. This is my last trip to Hersheypark for the 2008 season, so I'll also use this report as a review of my season as well. The main goals for this trip was find out what's going on with the Boardwalk Seaquel construction, get photos for the HPCrazy site, and ride some of the rides I missed in October. After a 45 minute drive with my school club in a van, we finally reached Hershey and to get to the park, we luckily took the back way into the park past Storm Runner and the Boardwalk Seaquel construction. I didn't get any pics, but the foundation for the wave pool building was finished and a small crane was on-site lifting a steel beam onto the foundation. It looked like work was finally starting to go vertical. A few minutes later we entered the parking lot and Chocolate World. The lot had to be the emptiest I have ever seen it. Only SIX cars were in the lot! The CW lot was 3/4 of the way full though. Once in CW, I got out my camera and started my photo-taking journey and ride journey. If you can look closely, that was all the cars in the parking lot. Chocolate Tour Ride I think I can lip sync. the narration by now. I've rode this ride 4 times so far this year and just about 10 to 15 since the updated the ride. I now must know what it feels like to ride through It's a Small World right? lol The wait was only to the top of the stairs. 5/10 Because the ride get's old... fast, but the chocolate was worth it I guess. *sigh* here we go again. I prefer the robotic 1988 version even if I only saw a 1 minute video of it. Favorite section of the ride. The smell never gets old. Here's one for Elissa. lol Right after the tour ride we were all free to split up and go wherever we wanted. Last year we had to go in groups and I got paired up with a group of girls and only ended up looking at reindeer for 1/2 the time I was there and finally leaving them and getting sick on the Claw. Not this year! Just me and my camera! So right after CW, I rushed down to Tudor Square and started my photo journey. After paying my admission and waving at the Chocolate Bar at the Character Place, I decided to start riding. Welcome to HP. And also Tudor Square. Rhineland Shops. Case Closed. I posted photos that the park gave me of the inside the station in the Sky Ride thread. Scrambler I haven't ridden this ride for over a year, but it still is thrilling. I was the only one on it at the time. 7/10 Even though I had the time, I decided against riding the Carousel (it would've looked weird with only me riding it) and Starship (same thing) so I headed to the back of the park to Pioneer Frontier. On the way back, RXCC was still closed, The Claw said it was open but the entrance was blocked off, and it was the same for several other rides. Frontier Flyers After waking up the ride op. for this, I hopped on. No wait. 5/10 This would've scored higher on a warmer day though. By the time I was done with the Frontier Flyers, the Claw had opened up. The last time I rode this was when I got sick on it. Hopefully this wouldn't happen this year. The Claw The ride really depends on where you sit. I re-rode this later with a friend and found that the seats near the exit to the right are the least intense where the ones to the left of the entrance are the most intense. Even though the two rides were spaced by 10 minutes, I did feel mildly sick after my second ride, but got over it in a few minutes. Word of Advice: Never ride this twice in a row. 8/10 After my first ride on the Claw, I decided to go down and take a peek at the reindeer and Fahrenheit. The station was very dark, but amist the shadows was a train that was still in the station. The park could've just opened up the ride (if the construction fence wasn't there). Curses. The train without the nighttime settings... and here's a better one. The backside of the station was lit up really well. It was at this point when I realized that I need a new digital camera. I've had this one for more than 6 years, the nighttime photos turn out blurry, the video I take has no sound, and I would like something more high-def. Alright, done with my rant. Back to the TR. The reindeer was all sleeping, so I went back and rode the Claw again and then hopped on the Pirate. All sleeping with visions of sugar-plums dancing in their heads.....bad caption. Moving on. Pirate The ride seemed a little less forceful this year, but the ride was still good and the operators were trying to trick me into thinking that i was going to ride it again. 6/10 From here, it was time to get something to eat and with Minetown Restaurant being the best place, I headed over there. The Kissing Tower Skaters in the fountain in Tower Plaza. Minetown Restaurant I ate here back in October and didn't like what I got. This time I could say that the food was better. The grilled chicken sandwich was great, but the french fries could've had a little bit more flavor. I didn't have to wait to get my dinner and I ate while looking at old HP pictures on my iPod and listened to some X-mas music they were playing. 8/10 After eating, I explored Minetown a little more and decided to ride the Kissing Tower and try to get some pics even though the camera is crap during the night. Kissing Tower This has to be the best ride in the park during CCL. It really sets a great atmosphere with the music and lights in the town and park at night. Here's what happened. The cabin was coming down, and instead of it stopping in line and level with the exit path, the cabin stopped 2 or so feet above the platform and only half of the doorway was in line with the exit. It was only me and two other people on the ride along with the ride operator. The op. first called maintenance and I think I heard the guy say it was a operator fault. About 5 minutes later, the area supervisor came over and another 4 or 5 minutes after that, 2 maintenance guys came. One of them went into the pit under the ride and brought the cabin down manually; the other physically pushed the car around so we could easily exit the ride. I think this was the highlight of the trip. After getting stuck on the Kissing Tower, I took the path next to SDL down to Comet Hollow. That way had to be the least emptiest areas in the park and it seemed really peaceful with 2 massive but silent coasters around you and nothing but the path lights. my next ride was Wave Swinger which had (you guessed it!) no wait. Settled down for a long winter's nap... ...or is it? Who knows what may be lurking behind the glowing wall in the Photo building. Wave Swinger The ride was a little colder since when I rode it in October, but still fun. 6/10 Next I headed up the hill and rode Skyview. Skyview I was the only one riding it and the ride ops. purposely stopped me over the creek for a minute or two ( I guess they were trying to scare me. lol). 5/10 After Skyview, I then hopped on RXCC which was a walk-on. I went in the Single-Rider line since it would've been a waste of time going in the normal queue maze. RXCC Ever since April, I've been trying to see how well I can score. It started at 36,000, then went to 46,000 in October, but how well did I do this time? First, I was competing against myself which added to the fun. Towards the end of the ride I scored 56,500. My team got 60,000. So how did I get the extra 4,500? 8/10 Since I saw 2 people get on Fender Bender, I guess I'd give it a try. Fender Bender Me versus 2 other people and no one else; there are 30 other cars in the building that are parked. It turned out more like a Nascar race instead of a demolition derby, but it still was fun. 5/10 After this, I faced the same two people at RXCC and lost (no suprise). Since I needed to meet my group back at CW to go home, I headed out. On the way I stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a hot chocolate remembering that I wanted to get one before I left. Hershey's is better. It turned out to be a plesant 2008 season... While in CW, I got a sweatshirt, waited for the rest of my group and then headed home anticipating what will be in store for my 2009 park season.... Merry Christmas to all and good night... Some important notes from my visit: -FH's train is still in the station. -The park added winter (HPITD-style) ride labels to the height signs. -More lighting displays and scenery were added. -Santa's Castle has moved and it looks like the tolley display from the Museum was placed in Minetown. -Seaquel Construction is going vertical. -No lines and only about 50 people at the park (there were more workers than guests). -The employees were really friendly, but a few looked exhausted and bored (no suprise there). Details for my 2008 park season: -# of parks: 2 Knoebels (3 times) Hersheypark (Springtime, Halloween, Christmas) -New Credits: 2 Sooperdooperlooper Fahrenheit Possible Parks for 2009: Cedar Point King's Island Hersheypark

I kind of wanted the gears to be back that far because I don't have a lot of K'nex chain, so I'm going to create a Millenium Force-style lift system. I plan of taking a string of rope, run it through the gear holes on the motor and connect the sides together. The train will slide up the lift, but then fall backwards on to the chain. Then the motor will put the train over the lift and then reverse back down the lift to pick up the next train. I did think about adding some kind of inversion, but when I added the angled loop, it was a little deformed and unsupported. Right now I'm sticking to overbanked turns as my inversions, but I was thinking about making my 2nd lift hill and drop similar to Fahrenheit (vertical lift and past vertical drop). -

I didn't have time to work on it last Saturday, but I did on Sunday and it's going to be the same way this coming weekend. But the good news is that I will have 2 weeks off from school coming soon so I could get a lot done under that time. On Sunday I did get the second overbanked turn done and I started on the 180 degree turn into the MCBR. Next Sunday, I hope to finish the turn, and start the brake run and 2nd lift hill. In the meantime, I came up with a good idea and I needed to act fast because the X-Mas season is almost done. Today I ran out to some stores to see if I could find some running lights for the coaster. It may be a bit early for this, but since they only sell X-mas lights now, now would be the time to buy them. Unfortunately they were sold out of every kind of X-mas light-style imaginable so I'm going to use plain X-mas lights instead. Stay Tuned for more. Same thing with this one. hopefully this view will look a little different in a week or two. Some of the sections need to be smoothed a little more. I made the base differently for the turns to see how well they'd work. The coaster has grown....again. -

I guess it's a good thing I didn't decide to work on this at my house because if it's one thing that I don't have, it would be room (looking back on my Fahrenheit coaster attempt). Thankfully my grandmother allowed me to use her basement to put this together and since it's near the size I am limited to when I display this in July, it worked out perfectly. Usually I go down to work on this once a week for an afternoon and when you listen to X-mas music or an iPod, you can get a lot done. I won't be able to work on the coaster today, but I tomorrow I might. I'm thinking about making the second overbank like the first one, add a helix, brake section, and then start the lift. I'm going to need to limit myself on flexible rods because I'm getting low. I might need to take some off of the built sections and use them one at a time. Hopefully I will be getting new trains soon. Right now I'm running off of two that were used on the 36 foot tall Kingda Ka coaster which are missing wheels, the front is connected to the cars with rubberbands. -

First of all, if you actually read the sscoasters thread about Sandstorm, you would actually see that the height was twice as tall as it is now. I am not going to go smaller on the coaster because I am already far ahead on the layout. Second of all, those 7 "failed" projects aren't all failed. The 4D coaster failed because my stupid school changed the requirements for the graduation projects. Now I have to research a career instead. if you think my recreation of Hersheypark is failed, then you are completely wrong. I've been working on that for over a year and a half and have no intention of stopping it. Same thing with Sandstorm; I am far along into building the coaster that I am not giving up on it. I think you guys are thinking that this project will fail because I only posted one update, it only shows the first drop and second hill and that the only project that didn't work was the 4D coaster because I over-hyped on it. Sandstorm has nearly doubled in size since the last update. The second drop has been added, an inclined loop was added and later removed because of it's deformed shape and lack of support, the first 90* banked turn has been added as well as the start of the second one. Because I removed the inclined loop, I re-added some new track to the whole coaster so it would be easier on my supply of track ties. Sandstorm still has ways to go before it's finished. After the second 90* banked turn, I plan on adding one last element before I add the second lifthill (4 feet tall). After that, the ride will then go back towards the station over a series of rabbit hops and possibly one last element before the ride is over. I'll try to post updates more frequently. Comment, or critizcize (whatever your cup of tea). Let know if you see any flaws in the curves so I can try to fix them. The curved second drop and overbanked turn. The first drop from a distance. Here's the whole layout so far. that section after the second overbanked turn will be removed. Sandstorm was going to enter a brake run after the first overbanked turn and then go right into the second lift hill. I decided to lengthen the layout a bit because of removing the inclined loop. A look at the curved second drop which then enters the overbanked turn. The first and the start of the second overbanked turn. Here's what that section looks like now. Some of the supports are still there, but I plan to take them out next time. This was the inclined loop before I gave it the Son of Beast treatment. (The tape was only temporary because I needed to make more track ties.) -

I think it now has been close to 3 or 4 years since they started work on it. Hopefully the ride will be worth it and last longer in the park than the other rides. At least the finish line is in sight. -

Two cool little tidbits of info I found in your Tr: 1. In the Fahrenheit Station picture, you can see the front of a train in the picture (bottom corner of the operator's booth). 2.In the elf time clock display, they list six names. The last three names, Marty, Kitty, and Lebbie. Marty is the guy who usually takes photos of ride construction (for Fahrenheit and SeaQuel) for coasterdom. Kitty is Milton Hershey's wife and Lebbie was a guy who helped Hershey with the park when it first opened. I will probably get out there on Thursday with a school club. (Fingers crossed). -
The building is all one object. The real building has more ticket gates and more detail to it; I just made this one smaller and slightly less detailed so it could work in the game better. It took me awhile to finish it, but that was mostly because of time-wasting mistakes (making sure the textures were the right size and placement in the game).

The Sky Ride at Hersheypark 1974-1992
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Case Closed. I just got word from an inside source from the park that the Sky Ride was indeed believed to be sold to Dreamworld over in Thailand. He also confirmed that the old station is still kind of like it was right after the ride was removed. You can still see where everything is. I'd like to thank Gary at HP for this info. He did send pics, but I'm not going to post them unless he grants me permission to do so. -

Thanks. I'll fix it the next time I get a chance to work on it. I'll lengthen the pullout more. It took me an afternoon to build from the top of the first drop to where I am now. My guess is about a week or two depending on the coaster. -
Since the old thread got accidentally deleted, I had to start a new one. I had to change the height because I wanted to be on the safe side so I know I will have enough pieces. The first drop is 4 1/2 to 5 feet tall and the second is around 3 feet tall. I started banking the peak of the second hill so I can start forming the helix and overbanked curve. Expect more soon, I plan on working on the coaster each weekend. The first drop. The first drop, and second hill. The banked peak of the second hill. Comments are welcome.

There was Earthmovers. That was removed sometime then. I'll just email the park and see if they could fill in some of the missing information.
