Knoebels Discussion Thread
Ccron10 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know, but at this point I feel that the coaster won't be perfectly fixed and might cost the park more than it's worth the effert. Construction started 3 years and 2 months ago and yes the coaster's trackwork is finished, but Knoebels has been trying to fix the problems with the ride since the beginning of the summer season last year. Jim, I'm not sure, but extending it all the way out to the road would make the helix a bit big. There is a storage area that was and is still used for construction behind the first helix (unless this is the wrong helix). Here are some Flying Turns photos that I took on my trip back in August 2008. I forgot to post them until now. -
I'm not sure, but a few years ago I do remember seeing an advertisment for a State Fair that was held on the Pa. Farm Show Complex. This was in June, so it wasn't the Farm Show. Great TR.

Hershey Off Season Report
Ccron10 replied to BRTeller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ You're correct. The picture was taken from behind Roller Soaker and no new buildings are going back there. By the way, the only pool walls they still need to do are the ones directly next to the Fahrenheit midway, so it can't be for pool walls. That picture has show the new locker building being built. That wasn't there last week. By the way, the Comet is getting new rails. They were working on them while I was there last week in the welding shop. -
Undocumented/forgotten coasters
Ccron10 replied to Kennyweird's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
But I can say that it's not known a lot in the enthusiest community despite it's size and attraction count. I have visited the park's old site before and maybe if I get around to it, I might post pics of what's left. -
Undocumented/forgotten coasters
Ccron10 replied to Kennyweird's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even though it's more like an undocumented park, Reading used to have it's own amusement park called Carsonia Park. Carsonia Park was similar to Hershey park back in the 1960's with a pool, lake, a coaster or two, Pretzel dark ride, and a lot more. In 1950 the park closed up and became home to a housing development. All that's left is the Beer garden building which is now a restaurant. The park's coaster was the Thunderbolt which was built by John Miller in 1932. Photo by Historical Society of Berks County. The coaster was redone in some year similar to the one at Kennywood and had a different name when the coaster first opened. There was also formerly 2 or 3 other coasters, a switchback railway, shoot-the-chutes, and Roller Coaster. -
My guess would be one is for the anti rollback device? The coaster looks better than I thought it would be, I thought it was a ''kiddie ''coaster. The first drop looks pretty sweet. The system looks similar to the one used on Fahrenheit (ex. the lift hill gears, double chain lift). This wouldn't suprise me since it is a new system Intamin uses. We just need to see a catch car (which pushes the cars up the lift) and it seems possible.

CRR was a unique ride, but if it needed to go, then I have no problem with the decision. Keep in mind that chlorinated water has the power to corrode metal and some of the parts would need to be replaced often. My guess is that parts had to be constantly replaced which cost a lot of money over time. One of the guys I think did mention maintenance was one of the reasons why it was removed. There were a few places that I saw that still showed signs of CRR existing (inside the old control room, and in the shop) which did give me a eerie feeling even though the ride is gone. -
Vekoma Pandora's Box
Ccron10 replied to Mechanic's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks like an updated version of the typical dark ride. I do remember hearing somewhere that these kind of rides needed to redone. The concept seems pretty interesting and from what it sounds like, the ride can circle up a tower in a circluar motion. So if there were a few block sections, I don't think that capacity would be a problem. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

On Monday, I went to Hersheypark to job shadow for my senior project that I must do in order to graduate. Along with interviewing, and shadowing, I was taken out into the park and was allow to view the Construction of the Seaquel. I'd like to thank the park for giving me the oppertunity to do this. I will post the shop pictures once I am finished with my project. A lot has happened since October and it seems like construction is moving at a great pace. This is going to be the new restaurant that sits in front of the Shore wave pool. In the distance is the wave pool building. It will house restrooms, pool machinery, and offices. In the bottom of the photo will be a bridge to access the cabana area. If you want a cabana, you would need to stop by this building first. The wave pool closer up. This is the Intercoastal Waterway so far. The layout is just about 3/4 completed. You would be floating around the course in a clockwise direction and will last around 8 minutes long. This is standing at Canyon River Rapids's entrance. You can see the section they need to finish. The popcorn stand had to be moved in order to add a bridge to access the wave pool and restaurant. The workers were adding a retaining wall to hold the walkway. This picture was taken near the second bridge to cross the lazy river. This is looking at either the entrance or exit ramp for Intercoastal Waterway. if you look closely at the concrete along the ramp, you can see that it resembles wooden planks. This is the loading and unloading area for the lazy river. Exiting riders will float into the far right canal to exit while loading passengers will enter into the center one. Another close up of the wave pool building. The deepest section of the wave pool. This is most of wave pool. Come May, this view will be filled with a lot of sun bathers and swimmers. Looks like they are ready to lay down another section of concrete for the Intercoastal Waterway. -

^It's not really much of a change, but more like a renovation of the area in front of the bridge. Whatever it looks like, it looks good so far. -

Matt (HPCrazy) is going today so expect a TR from him tomorrow and I will be going on Monday. Construction is probably pretty far along because after seeing a news report, some of the lazy river is starting to have concrete laid down. The base for the wave pool already has concrete, so my guess is that they are right now working on the sides. Back in October I took a picture of a lot of serveying marks in front of Flying Falcon. We now know what they were for: http://z8.invisionfree.com/Hersheypark_Crazy/index.php?showtopic=26 It will be a new entrance to ZooAmerica. I have no idea if they will be planters or a fountain because the concrete goes down pretty far. -
Hersheypark 2011 [RCT3]
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Taking Shape... It's been awihle since I updated the thread, so here's the latest: -Fahrenheit is now a working ride (thanks to CTR) and even though the layout isn't EXACTLY perfect, it can look exactly like the real thing. -FH's station was installed and made out of CS. -Canyon River Rapids is finished, I just need to add more detail to the queue line and install the ride sign. The trees, rocks and canyon section are done. -I installed path covers on most of the paths. -Tidal Force's station and queue house has been built. Today and for the next few weeks, this is what I plan to accomplish: -Install Skyview. This ride will be a 3-piece, CS object (not a working ride). To make it harder, I will need to design it at a 45* angle. -Create the Comet station out of CS. Should be just as easy as making FH's execpt it has more of a curve. -Finish Comet Hollow by adding SDL's station, Paddleboat Cafe, and the games. -Work on Minetown by adding GB's station, Coal Cracker's loading station, and more. -Finish Tudor Square, work on Rhineland, and Founder's Circle. -Think about a RCT video to show it off. More soon. -

Let's get this thread active again. Here's a video on the latest: http://www.wgal.com/video/18628540/index.html This area is kind of bigger than I expected it to be. -
Thanks for the advice, but I think were fine without it. Lea may not be the best at spelling, but we managed to survive five years without it being a problem, so I am sure we can go another five. Its just you americans that appear to have the problem with our grammar. Robb pretty much covered what I was about to say. At this point it would be wise from you to quit "shooting yourself and the site in the foot" and easily for free, download a spell-checker for the site. Now back to the spanking...

Cool. Out of the 50 mini-golf courses in Ocean City, I actally went to that one a few years ago. My favorite part is the section on top of and inside the cavern. I have to get back to that place.

Here's some advice coming from a guy who is currently getting a fansite up: A good fansite is one who uses good spelling and grammar, provides the correct info, and doesn't bash the park because they aren't doing something the way the site member wants it to be done. If you want the new PBP Guide to be successful, look into all the info you get and check to see if it's correct and don't post it if it's not accurate. Rumors are allowed, but don't make it sound like it would happen. As far as spelling and grammar, you don't see other sites not using it, so why should you guys? It makes the reader understand the site better.

Knoebels Discussion Thread
Ccron10 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't really think there is room by the Twister. To the left is the pool, to the right is the road leading over to the campground and a few campsites, and any spot along the road before you get to the bridge wouldn't work because those are cottages for where the workers live. As far as around the park, over by kiddieland wouldn't work since there is the creek and the entrance road. Next to the Phoenix wouldn't work because the lumber yard is behind it. Like I said, the only area I see for where this can be built is near the Skloosh by taking out a few picnic pavilions. Theming it to Centrailia would be a great idea because just imagine what the park can do now with dark rides since Knoebels opened their famous one in 1973. To give you guys an understanding of what Centrailia looks like, here are a few pics from a trip I took 2 years ago. This is the center of Centrailia. Today the population is only 4 or 5 people. This could be a great topic to base a dark ride off of. This is Main Street of what used to be Centrailia. Most of the streets go to nowhere. There is some of the smoke from the fire. This used to be where a few houses stood. This is just outside of town. Route 61 used to go straight, but because of the fire, the road was detoured. -
No Pictures Allowed ???
Ccron10 replied to cathyJ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
After searching on You Tube, there are a lot of videos posted of bands playing in hersheypark Stadium (especially Jonas Brothers). My guess is that the band wanted the video removed. I don't think Hersheypark would be involved in this because the park invited and paid the band to play. If the copyright problem was with the music, then that would be the band's problem. Just my theory. -

So for 2009 and possibly 2010, Knoebels could be getting 2 or technically 3 new coasters? Sounds great. I have to admit that the park is turning out to be a great amusement resort (I'd like to say theme park, but I don't think the park would like to be considered that). After visiting in 2003, 2005, 2006, and in 2008, I've seen the park slowly grow, even though I probably won't get to the park this year, it sounds like it would be worth the wait to go in 2010. The ride will go great with the surrounding area's theme since they are famous for coal mining. -
(K'nex Coaster)Sandstorm
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I think I might start putting together a "preview" video during this week. This weekend, I delt more with the "mechanical part" of the coaster such as the lift hill. The set-up for the lift hill is going to be different compared to other K'nex coasters because I don't have enough lift hill chain. When I first got the pieces, there was only 100 chain pieces which is not enough for 2-5 foot lift hills. To solve the problem, I chose to take a small section of lift chain, take a long section of rope, and tie the ends together to make a loop. the chain will travel only on the top of the lift hill section and the rope will be under it. Once a train gets carried to the top, the motor would be thrown in reverse and brought back to the base of the lift (similar to Millenium Force's elevator lift system). Yesterday, I added this system to the first lift, but I ran into a problem which needs help. Only the top gear is a lift hill-style gear and the rest are wheel hubs because the rope fits perfectly in them. While testing out the system yesterday, I would throw the lift into reverse and it would jam up. I did rap the rope around the top gear so it could get grip on it moving. Did I wrap it too much? See the pictures and lift diagram below. I also added 2 more boxes of X-mas lights which covered the rest of the coaster execpt for the turn-around before the station. Next week I will try to fix the lift, add the second one, and if I get the SS set, I will finish the station, test a little, and make the appropriate changes. The base at a different angle. The lift hill. The base of the lift system. Top section of the lift system. The M is the motor, the gray circles are where the wheels are, and the blue lines is where the rope and chain is. The highest gray circle is where the gear is. -
Interesting. The track looks too small to be a dive machine, but I don't know about a flyer. This may be a basic sit-down or floorless coaster and somehow the track makes me think that the coaster will have an insect-like name like Hornet.

The Trackwork is Finally Completed! After nearly 3 months of work, the coaster is "completed"! Technically it would be finished, but there's still work to get done. Last Saturday, I worked on the coaster's finale which is 2 curved hills, a sloping brake-run, and a new station (still needs work). There are a few parts where I need to fix, but the track is done. I do plan on adding longer track tubing to use less tubing connection pieces. I fould that metal wiring works for this (just a tidbit for those who run low on those plastic ones). Along with the trackwork getting finished, I started on the next step which required me to break out the Christmas lights. This week, I plan on getting a SS set on eBay which will give me new trains to work with and more pieces. More soon! The new station still needs a roof. The final section along with the whole coaster. This section might be lengthened once I get more pieces. Looks like a real coaster.
