Need advice on Knoebels food
Ccron10 replied to Myself's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Same, but I've never been to DelGrossos. When I had it last year I didn't think it was to spetacular. Another thing: they only sell the basic pizza flavors on the weekend. During the week, the other flavors sound good. Also, fried cheese on a stick? Isn't that basically a mozzarella stick with a stick? -
(K'nex Coaster)Sandstorm
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Yesterday was the Set-Up day for the coaster at the Community Days carnival. The platform has been laid down, the coaster has been transported over from the basement where it was held for the past 8 to 9 months, and some sections got fixed on it yesterday. Today is another big day because I still need to finish up the coaster, move a few tables down, my Over-the-Edge coaster down, fix it possibly, and set everything up. Here are some photos from yesterday. Enjoy. When we showed up, someone had the bright idea to use the basketball court as a parking lot, right where the coaster was going. We had to move the coaster in sections and assemble them in sections. As an improvement, we are adding a spine down through the center of the track. This will hopefully smooth out some sections, make it stronger and the coaster to travel farther. It was windy yesterday and the coaster could still stand on it's own! This section has to be added today. The first drop. The whole coaster. Last year the coaster took up the whole basketball court. Not this year! Well, I must get down there and continue working and finish this by 5:30 tonight. I'll post another update tomorrow morning! -
I have modified the car and made it so that the seats can spin easily and are centered. In a few weeks I plan on start building the actual ride. The design will be built on the size of a tabletop. Here are pictures of the car at 0 degrees, 90 degrees, and inverted. 0 degrees 90 degrees 180 degrees (Inverted) Feedback please.

Well, I promised that I'd finish the coaster in a week and I kept my promise. Let me introduce you to Over-The-Edge, a Eurofighter with a 3 foot tall 105 degree first drop, immelmann, tunnel, station fly-by, hydrolic launch, overbanked turn, and airtime hill. The good news is that it's finished, the bad news is that it can't make a complete circuit. It comes so close from going over the immelmann, but it comes one inch away. I can make the lift hill taller, but I don't have enough time to make a major change like that. Instead, Over-The-Edge will just be a tabletop display. I am proud of how this design turned out except for the exit of the immelmann. Feedback please! The overall layout. The overbanked turn from behind. The station and it's flyby. The immelmann and overbanked turn. The first drop and vertical lift hill. And finally a closer view of the layout.

THAT on a 300 foot tall coaster? I highly doubt it. Would be very awesome though. -

A station piece doesn't need a catwalk on the side. Besides, this is the 5th section of the lift. If this was a station piece, youd see evidence of a tire drive or magnetic brake fins. Usually a coaster isn't built attached to the station, it is usually built around it. -

Millenium Force's lifthill is called an elevator lift sometimes. A cable lift and elevator lift can be called the same; it's just horizontal instead of vertical like on Pilgrim's Plunge. -

It definitely looks like an elevator lift system. Perfect match. This seems like it will be the 5th section of the lifthill. I can't wait to see more. -

Can it be set up in two weeks? I doubt it, but I might be able to get some construction pics. It seems like a cool ride. -

Since the definition of giga coaster means a height anywhere in between 300 to 399, I'm hoping for an upper 300 and a layout that does more than Millenium Force. What really would be sweet is if it has an inversion or two. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
Ccron10 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What about the picture of Paris on Tatsu for Tatsu's Media Day. lol I personally would love to see her ride a coaster. She would say the most .... interesting things. Chances are that she would probably say 3/4ths of all the GP comments in this thread! lol I am probably going to hear a ton of GP comments next week... -
Last Friday I thought I'd bring home the rest of the pieces I haven't used when I built Sandstorm since I have more at my home. This afternoon I thought I'd see if I can build a second coaster to display next week next to Sandstorm. I have a 7 to 8 foot by 4 foot space to build this in and I didn't want to build anything tall since I only have 7 to 8 days until it has to be finished. The result was this: The coaster will be a compacted Eurofighter with a tangled web of track crossing over and under eachother. So far the vertical lift, 100 degree drop and immelmann have been built. I don't have a name for it yet, but I am open for suggestions. Comment, criticize, etc.

If the town was in downtown Allentown, then it might be unsafe. I drove through it back a few months ago and I have to say it looks similar to Reading (which is as worse or even worser). I went 3 years ago and you do have to worry about the other guests because they can be annoying and sometimes snobbish. It could've been worse though.

Even though I still need to display Sandstorm, I have recieved more K'nex. Appearently my friend who built the 36 foot tall coaster last year was going to sell the other half of pieces he didn't give to me. Well, it seems that he didn't sell them so he gave the rest to me. This now means I own the whole coaster now which is 30,000+ pieces worth. With this amount of pieces I can practically get really detailed and creative. After Sandstorm I plan on practicing with building smaller models before I build anything as big or bigger than the current coaster. My next coaster is going to be a S&S Power Free Flyer. I don't want this coaster to be anything like Tranan. I plan on trying to make it a more thrilling ride with more elements, dives, twists, and turns. Right now I don't have a layout figured out, but the build zone will be in front of and on the desk I have in my room. The station will be multi-level to allow faster loading and better capacity. To do this the track will have to be at a 90* angle and will have to be circular. Here a picture of a prototype car I made. I still need to add spacers to keep the cars in line and fix the cross arm. Comment please. More soon. A prototype of the Free Flyer car.

Cedar Fair's Emerald Lake
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
2010 Season I couldn't visit the park while it was open last year, but I did hear that it was a big success! The locals loved it as well as the tourists and mostly it was because of Razu, Blue Rage and Ghost Mine. For the 2010 season, Emerald Lake has put a major focus on improving the park itself by adding more permanent structures for ride stations, restaurants, and restrooms. There were a few small additions involved such as a Huss Giant Frisbee named Tidal Wave, a secondhand Chance Chaos, and more (see the next update). The Tilt-A-Whirl was moved to a more permanent location with it's own midway. As far as new structures go, the Geboldi Railroad station was given a more realistic station, a new L o c k e r shack was added, a pretzel shop, and a restaurant called The Power House Grill opened up. QuadShock was given a better-looking station to reflect the theme of the themed area that will be added in front of the coaster. It will mostly be done in 2011 with the area being made to look like a country state fair. More details soon about the 2010 season. The new Tilt-A-Whirl midway with a new restrooms building. The new and renovated area of Emerald Lake. The Tilt-A-Whirl at it's new location and the midway. The new Geboldi Railroad station. Park officials say that it will feature 2 stations, but a temporary track will be added to make it a one station ride for the time being. The ride will then open. The Chaos ride fits perfectly in between QuadShock's queue area and Tilt-A-Whirl's midway. Tilt-A-Whirl, Razu, and Blue Rage off in the distance, but this midway looks different. -
(I started a new topic for this park to prevent confusion in the old thread.) Back in the middle of 2005, a world-famous theme park chain called Geboldi had the idea of developing the area around a deep lake into a traditional amusement park. Ground was broken and it looked like the park was traveling smoothly to an early 2007 park opening, but something happened: the company ran out of money on the project and construction came to a halt. Unfortunately when Geboldi had the money, it was too late and the park was sold off in October 2006. The town nearby bought it and left it unused even though the rides were kept in good condition. It wasn't until July 2008 when Geboldi Lake was purchased and the buyer, Cedar Fair, changed the park's name to Emerald Lake because of the color of the water looks when the sun sets. The company got to work immediately planning the park's objective and future: to be as successful as Cedar Point. The park's first season in 2009 will feature many new rides as well as temporary ones. The major rides are as follows: -Razu (Wooden Coaster) -Blue Rage (Gerstlauer Spinning Coaster) -Ghost Mine (Mack Mine Train) -QuadShock (Vekoma Coaster) and many more. A temporary entrance has been put up to charge a reasonible admission price along with restroom facilities and concession stands. New paths are being added as well as trash cans and benches. Unfortunately a few rides needed to be sold, put into storage, or remain closed such as the Moon Wheel, old Geboldi Express, and Intamin suspended LIM coaster. Some areas have been fenced off for future additions. It may look unpleasent now, but once they come down with new buildings and rides on the other side, it will be worth it. Opening Day isn't far off. Stay tuned for more!

(K'nex Coaster)Sandstorm
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Only 2 weeks left until display day and the platform to hold the K'nex coaster is finished. It will elevate Sandstorm off of the basketball court and protect it from the heat and rain. If you think the platform is a waste of time to build for something like this, then here's something to keep in mind: The wood will then be used to make cabinets for my dad's woodworking shop and firewood. The sections will be eventually screwed together. The Making of Sandstorm display has been finished which leaves me with 3 more displays. The last few will be one with rides of the future, other K'nex roller coasters, and behind the scenes of a theme park. They will be finished in a few days. More soon. -

So could this be a record-breaking coaster in the works? The track style used on Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda' Ka was square. Remember that triangle shapes are stronger than square shapes. So if this is true could we be looking at a 130+ mph or 450+ft coaster? Here's also something to think about: How comes is KD already having track arrive in June (almost a year ahead of opening day?) Up here at Hershey, track for Fahrenheit started arriving 4 to 5 months until opening day. Or we could be looking at something we've never seen before from Intamin which might be the case. -

Is it me or do the curves on the track pieces from the previous page hardly have a curve on them? The double spine does make me wonder what are they planning. I can't see track like this being used on a low to the ground coaster. If they wanted to do a Maverick-style ride, they could've easily used the basic trianglular track used before. The second spine must somehow add strength to the track when strong forces are being used. How big is the construction site? -

Roller Soaker: Most of the back of the park is almost finished. Roller Soaker is finished with the supports and station added. I just need to add the First Aid building, then I will turn my attension to the mid-section and front of the park. More soon. -

So you freefall while attached to a cable, but how will you slow down when you get to the base of the tower? Will there be a catch net or something? I'd do it, but it probably be very expensive. -

I can't believe the last time I was down there was 8 years ago! I really need to get there again; maybe when the new woodie is built. Great TR. I remember riding the skyride and being amazed seeing that it was taller than the Great White.
