Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
coasterbear30 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ok, I don't understand why so many people trash Hypersonic. I rode it this fall for the first time and I loved it. If we weren't credit whoring that day, I would have ridden it several more times. It did not hit the back of my head and I thought that it was very comfortable. People talk so much trash about it and if they would just keep their head against the head rest like told then I am sure there wouldn't be a problem. It might be different if it was the GA Cyclone or the Hurler, but it's not. I just feel like so many people on this site look for a reason to bitch about the smallest things. Enjoy what you have while you have it and stop being bitchy! -
Most rides in a day?

My buddy and I marathoned Goliath at SFOG late one afternoon and rode in every row front to back (9 times) in about an hour and a half. -

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
coasterbear30 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A friend and I were at KD this past weekend and the track pieces are already showing up. I got a picture of it in the parking lot and will post it in out trip report by the end of the week. -
I don't know what GCI's I've ridden, but according to this it looks like Gwazi and Roar (SFDK) are the only ones thus far. IMO, it really has to do with the type of trains. As with Gwazi, it was pretty rough (which are PTC trains if I am not mistaken,) but still not the roughest thing I've ridden. As far as Roar at SFDK goes, I loved it. It is my number one wood coaster to date. I think that MF trains are the best thing you can get on a wood coaster, the seats are so cushy and I got some good airtime as well. I just rode it in April of this year. The people who are saying that it is rough must not have ever ridden a really rough woodie. Just come to SFOG and ride the GA Cyclone and you will know the real meaning of spine realignment. I vowed to never ride it again after a ride again at the beginning of this season. Some friends talked me into it and after what everyone on here says about the next to last seat being ok, I decided to give it another whirl. Needless to say, it is still the roughest woodie to date IMO and I don't think that I will be riding it again unless it gets retracked and some new trains. If not, then it needs to meet Psyclone's (SFMM) fate!

Most thrilling drop?
coasterbear30 replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't believe no one has mentioned Goliath at SFOG. The first drop in the back row you get ejected and then you float all the way to the bottom. It is absolutely amazing! Every hill is just eject, float, eject, float, especially the last three bunny hills. Thus why it is my favorite coaster to date. -
The Best Woodie under 75 feet Tall
coasterbear30 replied to MagnumForce's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't believe no one has mentioned the Cannonball at Lake Winnie in GA. Maybe you haven't experienced it, but it kicks total ass. The airtime is great and the last jump into the station is amazing! It feels like the whole train comes off the track. Good times and great oldies! -
I can't believe everyone is saying that this looks lame when everyone loves Kumba so much. It looks very similar to me. Kumba is my second favorite coaster of all that I've ridden. It seems that people are so judgemental. I know we are all coaster fanatics, but for God's sake, at least we are getting another coaster to ride! Even if it turns out to be not so great, it is better than nothing and it will give us credit whores a way to up our count a bit!

Photo TR: My first Georgia Park Adventure!
coasterbear30 replied to jedimaster1227's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I agree with you that GA Cyclone is the roughest ride in the park. SFoG is my home park and I decided I would give it a try again this year at the beginning of the season and after that I vowed to not ride it again until they either retrack it or get some new trains. It is horrible rough and I have ridden in every seat on the train. It never seems to change to me. I call for Millennium Flyer trains or retracking or tear it down! -

What are you talking about? Vekoma flyers better than B & M. You have got to be kidding me. I rode The Borg Assimilator at Carowinds a few months back and it was the worst, read WORST steel coaster I have ever been on. My neck and my back popped and both hurt after we got off the ride. The restraints were uncomfortable at best and it was very shaky and rough. Unless it is for a credit (cause I am a bit of a credit whore) then I won't ever ride a Vekoma flyer again. I would be ok if Intamin and B&M were the only coaster manufacturers ever. IMO, Superman is way superior to Borg. Very smooth and the restraints are very comfortable. -
I just rode DD for the first time a couple months ago and to be honest, I wasn't all that impressed. (Could be cause I had just ridden Montu the day before which is the best inverted IMO.) I like Ice the best of the two, but Fire had some cool elements as well. As far as airtime on the hump-WANK, I felt nothing. The drop on Ice is the first time I have ever had a dropping feeling on an inverted. I just thought it was better.

List the parks you visited in 2007
coasterbear30 replied to Groteslurf's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So far this year I have visited: SFoG (7 or 8 times) Carowinds (1) Lake Winnie (1) Wild Adventures (1) Busch Gardens Africa (1) Universal (1) IOA (1) Later this year: Busch Gardens Europe King's Dominion Maybe Dollywood and Alabama (the park with Rampage) -
When my buddy and I were at Carowinds a few weeks ago, they have the Phantom flyers and they do allow snapping. When the ride starts all you have to do is hold the fin to your right so it is actually turned left and then change it quickly to the opposite direction, it will catch the wind and sling you outwards and then when you get to the highest point turn it back so it goes down and repeat. It was my first time on flyers and I got really high air on them. They were a lot of fun.

Strongest/Most forcefull Launch
coasterbear30 replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have been on: The Mummy in Orlando The Hulk The Viper at SFOG Vertical Velocity at SFDK I am a little confused as to the types of launches. Are the LIM launches the ones that launch using the small wheels? If they are, then I would have to say Vertical Velocity. The launches were intense every time through the station. I will have to say that every launch coaster I have been on is intense because you never really know when to expect it unless they give you some kind of warning. -
A buddy and I visited a few weeks ago and here are my recommendations- Hit Top Gun first as it is the best coaster in the park IMO. It gets a longer line quicker. Then Borg after that or unless you are getting credits, skip Borg all together. It was the WORST steel coaster my friend and I had ever ridden. After that, it doesn't really matter as the rest are really just nominal waits. There is nothing worth skipping other than Borg IMO. I was scared to ride Hurler as I remember it being really rough, but we rode it twice and it wasn't that rough at all. Just sit near the front. It does provide a good bit of airtime. The Vortex was a bit rough on the ears, but was an ok ride. I would not suggest the water park unless it is free. I don't remember it being all that great.

Wild Adventures....worth going?
coasterbear30 replied to stevenpensacola's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A buddy and I went in May and didn't think it so great. Cheetah was good but fairly rough. The rest of the coasters are Vekoma and pretty much suck. If you are going for credits, then I would say do it, but if not, then skip it. We did the whole park in like 3 hours. Most of their flat rides were down with the exception of a few. Nothing spectacular, but I guess its worth it if you are going through that area. We did a Photo Trip Report on it if you want to look that up. It might give you a better idea of what it's like. -
I was also wondering about the figure coming out of the 5th or so stall in the changing rooms. Was that an actual person? If it wasn't, that scares the shit out of me. They look like a very dark figure with a green eye showing. That is just plain scary regardles of whether it was a real person or not. Please do tell... I didn't say poo-poo by the way...I didn't realize that they edit the word s**t on here.

Hey guys, thanks for checking out the report. The lines on Saturday were not horrible. I think the longest line was an hour wait and that was for BORG-the death machine. Everything else was about 30 minutes which wasn't too bad (Remember I am from Atlanta and I am used to waiting hours for rides at SFOG on a Saturday.) Sunday was Fathers day though and it was pretty dead overall. I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes for anything that day. We even rode Top Gun four times without getting off. The rocket power ride was a magic carpet and a lot of fun I might add. Yeah, that whole thing about Hey Arnold's Taxi Ride really pissed me off. They let us get on and everything without even mentioning that we needed a kid, then they kicked us off. We even told them we were enthusiasts and needed it for a credit, but they didn't care. It doesn't make any sense, because obviously adults can ride it. I don't see why you need a kid. Guess I am going to have to grow some kids.

Rides you won't do again
coasterbear30 replied to spaceace12's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I went to Carowinds this past weekend and had my first ride on Borg-OMG, the worst steel coaster I have ever ridden. I felt my neck pop while riding and my back hurt after I got off. NEVER AGAIN! Screw you Borg, I hope they tear you down. Then, Georgia Cyclone at SFOG. The last few years have only gotten worse. This year was terrible. Get retracked or get destroyed. You used to be a good coaster. Also, Wild Lightnin at Lake Winnie. My first wild mouse coaster and the roughest thing ever. Yet another neck popper. The way it swings around those curves was out of control. -
What's your favorite Flat ride?
coasterbear30 replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love inverting ships. Just rode my first at BGA a couple months ago. I love anything that spins. I love top spins and I love Huss frisbees. IMO, there should be more flat rides at parks. SFOG is my home park and we have all of two flat rides. It is kind of disappointing in that respect. BTW, what is a whip? -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Hulk @ IOA was the last on a trip. I rode Goliath at SFOG 3 times on Sunday. -
Secret Scary Coaster
coasterbear30 replied to jason10's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not gonna lie here. I was all about riding Sheikra on a recent trip to Busch Gardens until I saw this thing up close. I freaked out and did not ride. I hate drop rides. I don't like the free fall feeling and I am fairly scared of heights, so the combination of the two made me say forget this ride. I can ride Goliath at my park, SFOG, which is the same height, but the combination of height and straight free fall on Sheikra was enough for me to say no thanks. I don't think I could ever ride TTD or KK. People may call me a pus or whatever, but I don't care, there are some things I just will not do. I also rode Vertical Velocity at SF Discovery Kingdom in California and we sat near the back. It is almost the same as Wicked Twister, except that it doesn't twist on the back tower and those straight drops were pretty scary. I screamed like a little girl. LOL -
Oh well, the Pteranodon flyers would have been nice to get a credit on, but it's not that big of a deal. Thanks for the comment Piano John. Kraken King, identify yourself! How do you know us? SFNE, its not like we didn't hit other parks though. Almost no one commented on any of the reports. And yes, we did mean Derek and I noticed it after we posted, oh well, I am sure that most people knew who we were talking about.
