TR: Knott's Berry Farm 11-1-09
WFChris replied to rcdude's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am no park exec, but I'm pretty sure the entire ride was planned out before they started building it. The ride is exactly what CF ordered. This logic may work for the vast majority of the people riding the coaster, but I have a feeling it's not going to fly here. Welcome to TPR though, and try not to sound so angry! Jeez! Chris. -
While I do plan on jumping on the THBS bandwagon, does anybody else think they threw the word 'spin' in there referring to X2? That could leave room for it not being a THBS...Just sayin... Sounds kinda lame for socal if this is the case next year. Freefall returns at kbf and SSW is duplicated? Boooring....would kinda hope that its just...something else. Nonetheless, a new coaster is always a good addition!!!! Chris.

Unless I'm missing an inside joke, I'm pretty sure you mean Deja Vu instead of V2? Chris.

Robb, I got an email in my GMail from some 'hacker' type character. I would send you the info but it disappears when I mark it as spam. I have never gotten an email like this in the past, do you think it might have something to do with the hack? Thanks. Chris. -

Does anybody else think its weird that: A Chinese restaurant (Panda) is in a Mexican themed (Baja Ridge) area A pizza place is in a Japanese themed area Mexican food can be found in a .... well, generally un-themed area of the park There are probably more... All I'm saying is that I think the themed lands could be put to better use with a few switches. The Mexcan food in Baja Ridge. The Panda in Samurai Summit (I know I know, not Japanese, but closer than pizza!). The pizza place can go somewhere else, I know you can get Papa Johns not too far from Riddler as well, but maybe over by Terminator? The Mooseburger Lodge goes GREAT in a land called High Sierra Territory! It fits right in! I think SFMM has a great opportunity to make some subtle changes to work with this to a much greater level. Chris.

Nice update and pictures. It is sad to see that Knotts is allowing their employees to kill what is in my opinion, otherwise a good park. The $8 food is kind of weird too, considering there is normal priced food literally right outside the gate. My only concern is when you mentioned the employee saying something about 'Grumpy coaster enthusiasts.' At risk of annoying some people on this site, I do want to say something about that. I absolutely love the events that Robb and Elissa make happen, but honestly I don't think that employee was too far off. I know how enthusiasts can be. I've been one and going to west coast events for about a decade, and for the most part, I am just one of those guys that blend into the background and enjoy the event. When you have a busload of people that are being hyped up for a let-down, then focusing on every little problem they encounter, I can totally see where the people in the park are coming from! No doubt they got a speech before their shift about dealing with 'our kind.' "This show was good, disneyland was better." "This game was good, Knoebels was probably better." "I didn't even ride one of the classic authentic KBF rides." Yeah thats what I love hearing. At WCB there was this one embarrassing couple there yelling at EVERY employee about how angry they were that ERT started 15 minutes late. I eventually told them to 'cool it down,' and they did. Suddenly everybody was more patient and in a better mood. Ok, I think I'm just rambling now, but I really think we sometimes lack the ability to have some humility and realize we are not the center of the world. Yeah, everybody paid a lot of money to be there and by all means the park SHOULD have done better, but I just think it is a little unfair to blow up at EVERY little issue. I'm sure there were problems at other parks that were overlooked because you weren't looking for them. If you set yourself up for disappointment, its no doubt that you will find it. I always seem to have a good time at Knotts because I take it for what it is. This is a fantastic trip report and I really do love reading it, and this rant really isn't focused at you specifically, but I think I needed to get it out and perhaps remind everybody here that we sometimes can be pretty arrogant and I can totally understand how we can have a negative reputation. I want to go there just for the golf kitty. Chris. -
^Why would anybody avoid it? The GP loves the concept of a chance of disaster on a roller coaster. Every time I go to a park I hear way too much about Final Destination 2. Besides, if there is an accident on the 5 freeway, are you going to avoid it? If a building you frequent floods, would you avoid that too? If the engineers say it is fixed, it's fixed! It's one of those things that you just have to trust 'the powers that be' to get it right. Do you avoid riding brand new roller coasters? Imho. Chris.

^^Nice, it only took two pages for this thread to go that direction. I thought it would be at least 4!!! Chris.
