  1. This thread has officially been visited by the Department of Redundancy Department. Any other NEW thoughts that don't involve permits? Hey, I thought mine was pretty good
  2. Ill go ahead and throw out my totally uneducated theory: Perhaps the parks attendance projections look up, or at least okay for the year of 2010. Therefore, with the ride already purchased and budgeted out, maybe they want to pair it with the opening of some other smaller attractions next year. If they were to put in a few flats next year, along with a smaller sized coaster, that could be something they can market. A flat alone, they really can't, and a small coaster, they can't really either. But together? Now that may be a reason to get people out to the park. . . Even if they were planning a larger coaster for next year, that would also be a marketable situation, specifically toward their family image they are going for. A thrill ride along with a mini ride for the little kids sounds like a good reason for a FAMILY to visit the park. Something new for everybody! Just trying to think business like......
  3. Great TR! I am starting to get a little tired of the food prices complaint. I think we can all safely say its expected when you go to the parks. Theme Parks, touristy areas in general, ball games, movie theaters, etc. are going to charge more for food. That's just how it is, and with all of the discounted/free admission they hand out, it is how they pull a profit. I think paying a park around $70 a day is a fair price for a day of fun, and I just don't have a problem paying $12 for a hamburger when it comes with Roller Coasters. Sorry about the rant, other than that, you had some great shots outside of the typical ones you normally see here!
  4. That 'Launch your Lunch' shirt looked like something people have posted from the Japansese Parks Nice PTR.
  5. Hello world of TPR gamers, I have been playing with NL for quite a few years now, mostly making long terrain coasters. While their length and typical requirement for additional speed partway through the ride make them unrealistic for real life, I enjoy watching them and building them. Other than length, I try to hold true to actual physics of actual coasters, keeping the G forces in line and not having stupid elements that just would not exist in real life. I avoided uploading any here in the past because I wanted to avoid the typical criticism, but I think I am ready to share them. I only ask one question. 'Do you enjoy watching this?' I know I have multiple trains in one block section. I know I have some 'pumping' here and there. I know I sometimes avoid having mid course breaks. That being said, I try to make them as theoretically realistic as possible, so PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! If it is that important to this crowd, I will fix these things in future coasters! My coasters tend to be fast, and have lately been incorporating terrain and crossovers whenever possible. I like speed and to be honest, I think speedy coasters are much more entertaining to watch in simulator mode, which in the end, is kind of the point of all this, right?! I have not been giving them creative names, just 'Track (wherever I am right now).' Finally, I have been watching all of your videos and am finding them VERY entertaining. Mine are not nearly as neat as yours, but I am kind of new to actually attempting to perfect them. I would love any input you might have to help me achieve my goal, whatever you may interpret those to be. ------------------------ THIS TRACK: "Track Mammoth." I wanted to create a coaster where I made a full scale mountainous terrain BEFORE constructing the coaster. I started with a plateau in the center, and that's where I started the coaster as well. There is a fairly extensive 'pre lift' section, a large FAST lift hill, and two speed boosts throughout the ride. Its a bit long but I had a few goals to accomplish. I am working on S type curves as I find those fun to watch. Please download this and check it out! Oh, also bear in mind, that this was my first attempt at using custom supports on a larger scale. I just can't seem to get the hang of those 'free nodes!' Seriously. Would love your input and to show you more of my work, or to make new work based on your advice! 6. Looks like you all had a great time! I have lived in California my whole life (minus right now) and I have never visited any of the 'up north' parks besides SCBB. Robb, based on my experiences at WCB and these pictures in the Bay Area, I would LOVE for you to continue this event in the future!!!! Your hard work for the sake of internet people is well appreciated.
  7. ...well, what I heard from the dippin dots guy is......
  8. I know it was a few pages back, but Elissa, this comment was all kinds of win.
  9. ^^ I'm not much of a cruise ship person myself, but I would assume that the newer/bigger ships are all out on the east coast because Caribbean and European cruises bring in a lot more cash than Alaska, Hawaii, and Mexico. Discuss. Chris.
  10. ^ I was about to say, a couple of those trains look to be only about 20 seconds apart on the track. I have a feeling that it is a bunch of photos superimposed together to become one.
  11. As far as the pre-show goes, I think they should just add a few queue zig zags in there and just extend the line through it. I don't really see people paying much attention to it anyway. Who cares if it cycles through more than once, if the ride runs efficiently, it shouldn't happen.
  12. ^^Elissa, your warning is why I posted this 'confirmation.' He decided not to shell out for the Flash Pass, either. Oops!
  13. My friend is at SFMM right now, and he is apparently in line / getting off of his fourth ride for the day. LOL.
  14. Isn't that private party the AAA event? Sounds like a ton of fun if it is.......
  15. The carnival rides without fences around them is really cool to me.
  16. To be fair, I have asked most of my friends what their impression is from the commercials, and they all just think its a ride. There, I said it. Chris.
  17. I totally see your point. But once again, I do think there is a TON of innovation going on right now. Sure, they are variations on what is already out there, but its like, FINALLY! They are mixing these one-trick-pony rides with actual water slides. For the LONGEST time, we just saw random twisty slides or speed slides, raft or not. THEN, we started seeing these really bizarre 'objects,' that while cool, only lasted about 5 or 10 seconds. So now we are seeing these bizarre objects being incorporated into slides. I guess my point is, for the longest time, the pace with Water Park innovation was c-r-a-w-l-i-n-g. I mean, is this similar to the new triple funnel/waterslide thing that just came out? Sure, of course. But they are BOTH debuting the designs the same year. Whereas in the past, it would have taken YEARS to watch it evolve. They would sell the original idea into the ground all over the world before they had to come up with something new. It just seems to me that they are more unique, and we are going to see some really cool stuff in the next few years. Combinations that we are going to LOVE. Look at that new double stack "burger" at KFC. All those items existed for years, but they finally combined them now, and let me tell you, its bliss. These perfect combinations are REALLY COOL! Maybe I'm completely off base. Maybe I grew up going to waterparks that did not evolve at ALL as I grew older. Same park, year after year, after year. I mean, we thought Vortex was exciting. A slide where the turn got tighter and tighter and tighter. Innovative? Not really. All I saw really happen was the removal of those incredibly dangerous boogie board slides. And that was sad. Then I got older, then all the sudden waterparks went all crazy with these funnels and uphills and wacky colors and whatnot. Does ANYBODY agree or is this a one man battle? Chris.
  18. Running OUT of ideas? You guys are insane! There are so many things coming out lately in the Water Park world that are really really really cool. On a side note, mind you that the states are still in a bad economy. Water rides are less expensive to build, Water Parks are less expensive to visit. I think the market will continue to grow for Water Parks for the next few years. I love water parks and I think all these new weird styles of rides ... IS ... AWESOMEEEEEeeeee! Think about what we had, oh, about 10 years ago. There were speed slides, twisty slides, raft slides, racing slides, steep slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers. Sure, thats variety but they are ALL slides. Pretty straightforward. Now we have the toilet things, the funnel deal, Variations on the funnel deal, Funnel slide rides, GIANT tunnel slides, loops!, half pipes, Shanes contraption in Utah, a variety of different uphill slides, LAUNCHING slides, water parks in hotels, water parks on boats....I guess my point is I find it hard to agree with your thoughts of water parks running OUT of ideas. Seriously, what?! Forgive my Gabba reference.
  19. Well that's not a very Disney attitude now, is it? Regardless, I was more referring to innocent youth, which I have sadly lost as well. Chris
  20. Curiosity: That weird double-loop thing on Ninja.....is it cool? Chris.
  21. I personally like the old lap seating arrangement. It allowed us as teenagers to get weirdly close to those that we thought we loved.....
  22. Hey everybody, Got this in my inbox and thought I would share: http://www.groupon.com/deals/pacific-park-la?utm_campaign=pacific-park-la&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&c=title&addx=yosechris@gmail.com $10 for an all day pass at Pacific Pier. Instead of $21.95. You HAVE to order it TONIGHT though!!!! Wednesday!!!! Chris.
  23. I like how the commercials I have seen do not even mention that it's at a park called 'Islands of Adventure.' It only mentions the Universal Resort in Orlando. It's totally so people buy tix to the park, then get out there and realize they need to purchase a second gate ticket to see HP.
  24. ^Agreed. I actually also love the Log Ride and Bigfoot Rapids at KBF, too.
  25. This may be a stupid question, but what is with this trend of the super slanted brake run? Anybody know the reason? Nice TR
