How about the guy (years and years ago) who tried to sneak into Grad Night at DL via the Monorail Beam. He saw the train coming so he laid down on the side panel thinking he'd be safe. Well, the train only travels about 3 inches above that and he was struck and dragged several yards. Back then there were no fail-safes that stopped the train automatically in the event of an accident. Or the guy hopping between people-mover cars and fell between two of them only to be dragged several hundred feet (once again, no emergency brakes back then) before the ride was eventually stopped by a CM. Those are the best, mostly because they are at the Happiest Place on Earth.

I also think they are sufficient on Buena Vista St, however some of the decorations in Cars Land just don't do it for me....particularly the tire Christmas Tree. The snow-car-man just reminded me of shoveling snow off of my car when I lived in the mountains. I get the concept I just don't think it looks very good. On a positive note, I have always enjoyed the over-sized holiday lights in Bugs Land.

I know the talk of Revolution has been killed several times, but it's just interesting to me that the park with the 'Worlds first Vertical Loop' and the park with 'the most inversions in the world' would not want to restore this gem to it's former glory. I've heard all the arguments, specifically 'once you install a restraint you can't tone it down,' but what seems like a minor investment can make this beast essentially a new experience for an entire generation. I mean, if you are going to be the inversion capital of the world and completely ignore airtime, you might as well take pride in some of the history you have!

^^Both the original statement and then them retracting it are posted on the previous page of this thread, I do find it interesting that they changed their stance barely 2 hours later. Seems to me that somebody in PR made a really uninformed decision and somebody more important had to fix things FAST! I think they cleaned up well though, offering a full refund in case they offended anybody is a good gesture.

The Most EXTREME rides in the world!
WFChris replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is certainly the most 'Extreme' thing I have ever seen, and you 'ride' a gondola to get there It's a crazy hiking trail / destination in China, I know you are not looking for extreme hiking trails but I mention this one due to its major popularity as a tourist destination. http://www.ssqq.com/archive/vinlin27d.htm -

Best & Worst Refurbished Coasters
WFChris replied to sportscapper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree...when I try to put my feet in the designated slots, it tries to bend my legs in a way that is just not natural and feels awful. I end up cramming my feet right in front of my body which works a lot better. I guess I should add that I am an 'average' size/weight person. -
Once again, the streetcar is not necessarily meant to assist those in vehicles, rather to expand the ability to reach the park and commute around the 3 mile resort area via public transportation. For being a 'World Class Resort,' it sure is annoying having to walk 1/4 mile from the Amtrak through a business park to transfer to a shoddy city bus to get to Katella and Harbor, just to walk another half mile north. Think outside the car. From a tourism perspective, would you rather have the ability to get around the area easily if you want to leave the park, or would you rather rent a car at $40 a day for the off chance you decide to go somewhere else?

Why not: Flashback at SFMM -
Not sure where you get your stats on LA being unpleasant, but I personally love skiing by day and Disney by night, and going to the beach the next morning. Being surrounded by every culture on the planet isn't so shabby either, not to mention the fierce snowstorms that NEVER pass through town! I suppose (contradicting my other post) that we are a good location park-wise because our parks are open year round, but I still say that it's unfortunate that we cannot experience the parks of the east coast without planning a full blown vacation. Been on every coaster out here a million times but haven't been on any of the true classics.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I don't have the longest list of parks I've visited, but I am somewhat proud of the fact that I have Flashback (SFMM), SOB, and Drachen Fire (BGW) under my belt -
I would agree with the 'Somewhere in the Northeast' opinion seeing as how many parks are within arms reach out there. I guess the reason I am posting is because I have to disagree with So Cal being a good place for the enthusiast. Sure we have a great variety of parks and coasters and what not, but the ability to explore other parks becomes limited. While to the untrained eye we may have this huge variety of parks, but our selection can get a little stale after years of living here. When that happens, we are basically screwed because it's impossible to plan an 'easy day trip' ANYWHERE else. On the east coast, you have the option to drive 9 or 10 hours to Cedar Point, or Georgia, or wherever you are headed. Here, we have our core parks, of course, but after that, you MUST fly to get to another park, or take a VERY long road trip. Think about it: LA Parks: +/- 1 hour San Diego Parks: 2 hours That Place in Tijuana: 3+ hours there, customs trying to return Vegas (currently 2 jerky coasters): 4-5 hours Bay Area Parks: 5+ hours 1 coaster in Phoenix: 6+ hours "Enchanted Forest" near Portland: 15+ hours Denver and beyond: 15+ hours So, while we do have a nice little selection here, ultimately we are isolated from the rest of the United States and there are quite a few 'world class' experiences that most of us are lacking simply because travel to the East Coast is difficult for us to do cheaply.Think about it...we have to FLY to every park y'all consider normal and possibly mediocre. A trip to Knoebles for me will cost well over $1000 per person. And that is my argument against Southern California.

Why do you love TPR?
WFChris replied to ambe_bambe's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
TPR managed to convince me that you don't have to be a large unattractive gay man wearing a patch jean jacket to appreciate roller coasters. Not that there's anything wrong with large unattractive gay men wearing patch jean jackets. -
Does anybody think this happened at IAAPA because they are trying to sell their bogus product to an American market? I don't know of any Chinese knockoffs in the States but Elissa mentioned that there are some in Mexico...do they sell these much anywhere outside of China? I just feel that if the sales were kept in the country there would be less that our government could do about it, but the moment they step foot over here is the moment we clamped down on it. Yeah? Nah?

Street Cars have helped virtually every city they have been recently installed in. The Anaheim Resort area is in DESPERATE need of public transportation. So, that being said, this is a logical choice for the city. I take public transportation down from Los Angeles, and the most annoying part about taking the train is that there is no simple way of getting to the park from the train station. You can take that Resort bus thing that is a ridiculous $6 a day and runs once hourly, you can walk to the OC Transit's bus stop on Katella and get dropped off at Katella and Harbor and walk the 1/2 mile, or you can take a cab. A street car (or anything ticketed and reliable) would be a great solution. I mean, the whole scenario comes off as kind of janky if you ask me, considering the area is supposed to be a 'world class destination.' I never really understood all of the opposition to rail in SoCal in general. The SD Trolley and the ever-growing LA Metro system are doing wonders for the residents of their cities. For the first time since the 1930's it is becoming possible to live here car free. I am all for rail expansion!!! You see, I don't really care about the 'traffic during construction' when it is being built because I don't plan on being stuck in a car in that traffic in the first place! Besides, the rail is being installed on Harbor. Last time I checked, all lots are accessible by Not-Harbor Blvd, particularly and most obviously Mickey & Friends.

See I would have trouble on trips to China (probably Asia in general!) because I would totally order the Crystal Horseshoe Confusing just to see what it is, and end up never eating anything very appetizing. Thanks for this report, your's are particularly enjoyable and I enjoy your sense of humor quite a bit.

Affirmative. Southern California (in my opinion of course) has been going on this healthy eating thing for a while now, and while everything is 'fresh' and 'good for you,' none of it is AWESOME. I mean, if you want a really good vegan wrap, by all means come on out but when it comes to food that tastes great regardless of caloric count, steer clear! I was thrilled when we got 5 Guys. Which Wich is amazing. We don't have any sandwich chains that stand out besides Subway and Quiznos. The Quiznos and the Subway across the street from DLR are both particularly bad. Still holding out hope that we will get a PotBelly Sandwiches one day. Anyway, people like Which Wich because of the Wicked and how they aren't afraid to stack up meat! The burgers at 5 Guys are BIG (compare to In-N-Out). These sandwiches are far from healthy, which is oh-so unpopular with California media. So yeah, when So Cal hears about a new east coast sandwich transplant, I think there are more than a few of us that get excited. As far as Earl of Sandwich at DTD, yeah thats probably the same line of fanboys that waited 6 hours for Nemo just to say they were there first. Nonetheless, I am pretty excited about a sandwich that might be awesome but I'm willing to wait until the line doesn't look like THAT.
