Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
asr replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No word on the tunnel yet, but the blog says that supposedly the first drop is the best part, and like I was expecting, there is crazy airtime in the back row. Also, supposedly there is even airtime in the S Bend. And here is a kinda sucky Maverick operational pic EDIT: I just got a shot of Maverick cresting the lift hill. Don't think we have that one yet -
^ Nope... < Is anxiously awaiting the reviews of Maverick to come in V Pulled an all-nighter

MSN Amusement Park Article

Nothing new, but a decent read since I'm bored, and good for the general public who don't follow these sorts of things. I can't believe they mentioned Canobie Lake though -

Do you like it in the front, back, or the middle?
asr replied to laqueefa's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Almost all the time I perfer front, but on some coasters I won't ride anywhere except the very back row. Well, one coaster (Cyclone at SFNE) but whatever. It really depends on the coaster. -
Question About Dive and Rocket Coasters
asr replied to ThemeParkCommando's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dragster isn't scary, It's over in about 15 seconds. The launch is intense, but after that it's kind of a "What just happened?" moment. Haven't ridden a dive machine yet, so I can't help there. -
Everland Discussion Thread
asr replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I kind of doubt enough people will ride it for it too be #1. The closest I see it getting in the Mitch Hawker polls is having not enough riders to rank in the poll, but if it did have enough riders it would rank as #1. -
Hershey Hawaii [RCT3]
asr replied to coasterdude5's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Jolly Rancher, hard candy made by Hershey. On topic, I don't really like Orogna either. It seems more like Schwarztkopf cranked up to mega size then a B&M, but I assume that is what you went for since it was intended to be a tribute to Viper. -
Summerfield Theme Park, Omaha Nebraska
asr replied to asr's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I haven't been particularly motivated in the pasy few days, but I didn't want the park to just die, so I worked on it some more today. I added custom supports for the dive machine (which is still unnamed, but I am leaning toward the name "Quicksilver, because I don't eally want anything too mining related because it makes the coaster seem like mine train) and Great White. I also worked on theming and landscaping, and started working on live entertainment. Supports on the lift hill and drop, notice the accurate bracing at the top of the lift. Action shot. Same shot, looking across a maintnence bridge. Theming bit. There is no signage yet though. Another shot of the big rock thing. Inside the big rock thing. Inside Great White's station. This one's for you, Derek. THRU TEH TREES!!!1111!!!! Bench: The Ride and Cedar Fair: The Ride. Did you know that there is actually a stoey behind why CF parks have so many trash cans? It's because CF did a study to find out excatly the distance between garbage cans that would convince people to throw out garbage. Thus, no garbage on the ground, thus no one wanting to look wierd by throwing garbage on the ground. Simple but brilliant. Another flat ride that didn't get covered, an Octopus named... Octopus. A quieter area. Notice the giant trees made using MyGirlPepper's method. X Rail's brake run tunnel had to be shortened to accomadate a transfer track and storage shed. Also note the added color. Supports on the dive machine. Also, beware! coaster geek shot in 3, 2, 1... Now! Hawaiian Song & Dance Hall, a new theater in the Hawaiian Harbor section. The seating area. It has a maximum capacity of 20 people. The stage, with the show's performers rehersing. ---- I leave you with this picture I took of Great White. It is 1280 x 1024 so you can use it as a wallpaper. EDIT: Stupid Imageshack re-sized it. The attachment is the full size wallpaper. Wallpaper.zip -
The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
asr replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Screamscape says that Michigan's Adventure is getting something new. A what you ask? A new pathway of course! Cedar Fair hopes this new atraction will keep guests coming back again and again More seriously, Screamsacpe is saying that the two back areas of MIA are being connected, and will feature new rides, including a pair of S&S towers and a clone of Knott's Berry Farm's Sierra Sidewinder. They say it will be built up over several seasons in phases, and goes by the working title of Timbertown. -
A new kind of Intamin Harness?

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't notice that before. Anyway, it seems wierd. Why have more stomache padding? -
Favorite Coaster at Cedar Point?
asr replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Millennium Force. So fast, and the overbanked turns are crazy. I always here that it has no airtime, but it has airtime over the bunny hop in all rows, and over the two hills on the island in the front row, and of course there is the drop. The only coaster I can rank above Superman at SFNE. Also, whoever voted for Mean Streak is masochist -
Magnum is an Arrow. Also, why is the name stupid? It makes perfect sense. Magnum = Magnus (Latin for "Great", the rides size), XL (Extra large, again, the size) 200 (first coaster to break 200 feet). Anyway, I have to agree on Iron Dragon. It's a really fun little ride, I have no idea why most enthusists bash it so much. Also Blue Streak and Wicked Twister at CP are overlooked rides, but alot of fun.

A new kind of Intamin Harness?
asr replied to Milkchan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Interestingly, look at this picture of Zaturn last year, and you can clearly see the older style restraints. Also, Axman, I said that Maverick had "old" restraints, because Maverick's restraints are the same style used on Kingda Ka and Stormrunner (and all the rocket coasters except Xcelerator, TTD, and of course Zaturn). -
A new kind of Intamin Harness?
asr replied to Milkchan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It won't. I was at Cedar Point opening day, and the test seat still had the old Intamin accelerator restraints. You can also see the restraints here and here. -
I rode Mantis on opening day this year, and I did not really like it. The first drop and loop where great, and everything else up to the MCBR was decent. After that, it was very rough, tons of headbanging. I would ride it again, but I would also ride Great American Scream Machine (SFGAdv) again so that's not saying much.

Most Overrated coaster?
asr replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really don't think Millennium Force is overrated. It's atleast as good as S:ROS SFNE. And how can Wicked Twister be overrated? When did it ever get much hype? I definatly think Top Thrill Dragster. It took me two hours to get on, and it lasted no more then 20 seconds. I was atleast expecting an extremly thrilling 20 seconds, but other then the fast and intense launch, the ride had nothing to it. -
Cool videos, but sadly, it looks alot less intense in those videos.

Canobie really doesn't have that many people talking about, and it's all because it is one of the few amusment parks in New England. Also, Yankee Cannonball is awesome. I do agree that the park needs some work though, but it is a nice small park, maybe not as good as Holiday World or Knoebels in that category, but... Oh, nevermind I've ran out of reasons to defend it But still, Yankee Cannonball is awesome. Just bring the rest of the park up to scratch... Also, I don't know why people don't like Cedar Point's Blue Streak. It had a ton of crazy airtime when I went there, maybe even more then Magnum does.

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
asr replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not a rumor or random, but I have been thinking since I went to Cedar Point, that they should get a boardwalk. I know that a boardwalk themed area has been talked about for CP since the dawn of time, but whatever. It could either be a genuine themed area, or a shopping strip thing like Univeral CityWalk. Anyway, a major new themed area would need an attraction as an anchor, so either as part of the initial construction, or as a second phase, there would be a new coaster. My idea for that would be a B&M floorless, something on a similar scale to Batman: The Dark Knight, but would have unique features to back it up. First off, the ride would feature either steel scafolding style supports or steel scafolding with steel tubes inside for support throughout the entire ride, and the track and supports would be painted white. Now there would be a reason for this. Besides inversions (I'm thinking four or five) there would be helices and curving drops similar to a 20s era wooden twister. The ride would also have a brand new element, it would start as an inclined loop, but tilted more then usual. 3 quarters of the way down, it would unbank and flatten out, then head into a half corkscrew and down through a half loop. It would be called an "Inclined Cobra Roll". The ride would have to named "Cyclone" because it would be built as a homage to 1920s twisters. If the area would be an outside the park shopping strip, the ride would be an upcharge attraction, that CP guests could get on for free with handstamps. Alot of guests probably use the handstamps anyway, because the dining options are alot better outside the park then inside. Then I have two other, less developed ideas for a third woodie at CP. One concept would start out in the old aqautic stadium, do a turnaround and climb a steep 240 foot lift hill next to Wicked Twister, then have an out and back layout that turns into a twister like El Toro. The ride would have to be an Intamin woodie. The other would be a GCI twister on Millennium Island (the island that Paddlewheel Excursions goes around, and that Millennium Force's two airtime hills are on), and would have the queue and exit crosd the lagoon and start out in a small entrance building on the main part of Frontier Trail (Not the Mantis/Millennium Force part, the western themed part past those two rides). It would have to break some sort of record, so make the drop go to 80 degrees or so, and you have some bragging rights right there. Or Cedar Point could just build the worlds tallest and fastest coaster again. I'm thinking it would start out in the Aqautic Stadium like my first wooden coaster idea, then turn around and climb a 500 foot lift hill, then do a 360 degree spiral on the way down. It's thing to set it apart from Magnum and Millennium Force would be several tunnels under the parking lot, and an inversion or two for good measure. I guess I went on a little longer then I meant too. You can all laugh at how much of a Cedar Point fanboy I am now -
All of you do realize that this thread is MORE THEN TWO YEARS OLD right? Anyway, on topic, despite it being my home park, I have to say SFNE. They have Superman and a decent lineup of rides and coasters, but the park is boring and concrete, and they somehow found away to make it look worse by remodeling Tiny Timber Town into Wiggles World (the worst decision ever) and moving and re-theming the swings. I always hear people who have never been to the park saying it looks great (I even heard someone say it was the best Six Flags park), but it really isn't.

Hmm. Well, it is possible that the riders where just stagering because they had never expierenced something like it before, because there is only 9 B&Ms in Asia other then it, and none of those are in Korea. Ofcourse, even if it is less intense then those riders think, it can't be denied that it will be intense. I just watched through video of Raptor at Cedar Point, which is pretty forcefull. Phaethon looks like it goes through the loop slightly faster, and the Cobra Roll alot faster. Raptor's Cobra Roll was the most intense part of the ride, so Phaethon's must be insane. I really hope they don't decide to put trims on it, it looks like a monster, and it would suck to have be toned down. Too bad I'm probably never gonna ride it
