Something new at Canada's Wonderland for 2008
ginzo replied to jonlocke's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You're correct. I forgot about that hill on California Screamin'. There is a pretty big difference in execution though. On CS you grind to a near halt on that hill, maybe to increase the cycle time for capacity purposes, and are pushed up and over the top. With Maverick it feels more like being rocketed, as the speed seems to increase as you head towards the top. Basically you're thrown much harder into the drop on Maverick. But, yeah, same technology. I have to give them credit for being creative on this particular project. I'm very happy that they moved away from their stupid obsession with taller, faster coasters that don't do anything. Of course, this doesn't mean that they're doing something entirely new. -
Something new at Canada's Wonderland for 2008

Like they hyped up Firehawk as being something new, instead of a 6-year-old coaster with new paint? Nothing was new on Maverick, but there are no other rides put together in quite the same way. Actually, what other rides use LSMs as a lift hill, instead of as a launch? -
I did the park in like 2 hours, and have no desire to ever go back. I didn't really enjoy any of the rides. And the place is just a lifeless, naked slab of concrete. There's no character at all. I appreciate your home park (Kennywood) infinitely more.

You raise a very fine point. The park could do well with some medium-sized, but fun installations. But shouldn't they start with fixing their current assets?
-
You should send that picture over to Kinzel. Then Geauga Lake will be getting the 300 ft coaster next year, not Canada's Wonderland.
-
The fact that most guests only go to the water park is quite relevant as far as ripping out more coasters is concerned.
-
Or if most of the guests go to the water park.

TPR 2008 Trips! Download the flyers here!
ginzo replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's the longest side of a right triangle. Real question: I didn't notice Holiday Park on the Europe trip flyer. Am I right in assuming that there's a 99% chance the trip will feature that park? EGF is most my sought after credit, and I imagine there are a lot of others like me. We're going either way. Europe is going to pwn. -
Oh God. If Kings Island got Villain there would be no doubt that Kings Island has the worst large coaster collection (> 10) on the planet. They should make one of those crappy Golden Ticket Awards to commemorate this incredible achievement.

MSNBC Article - Six jeers for Six Flags
ginzo replied to mrhambone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm pretty sure this article was put up before Disney announced the price hike. The comparison is pretty dumb though because Six Flags basically gives away the gate, assuming that you buy a season pass early enough. Yeah, I remember waiting like 30-40 minutes on a crowded day at Animal Kingdom just to get McDonalds. And it was like 2 PM, not noon. -

I think Ravine Flyer II is going to be a 300 ft. gigacoaster. You can tell by the footers. -

I think the footers are for Elvis to stand on when he reveals that he's still alive. -
Thomas Edison said that successfully discovered 1,000 ways to not make a light bulb. You've just discovered one way to not drive. Learn from your mistake, and you'll be OK. Driving is *no joke*. Perhaps you should have your parents pay for one of those deluxe defensive driving courses. It sounds like you may need some additional training.

SheiKra Having Issues?
ginzo replied to gatorchomp83's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You should check it out. Although I haven't ridden Sheikra since it went floorless, I have checked out Griffon. It makes a difference in the front. It's a disturbing when they hang your feet out over that drop, especially if you're wearing sandals. Griffon also wins for the second inversion. Imagine how freaked out riders would be if they had to evacuate Sheikra at the top of the lift hill. I've seen people freaking out just because a train got stuck halfway up the lift on a woodie. -

Boo. The capacity does suck, but it's my favorite thing at Hershey. This opinion may have been influenced by the fact that it was so hot it felt like being baked in a kiln on the day we went. Still any ride where you can drench unsuspecting guests on the midway gets a big thumbs up from me. -
Movie theaters use 3-chip DLP technology, which does not have the rainbow problem. I'm not sure if any consumer models have this. If they do, they'd make LCD TVs look cheap.

You ate White Castle? I thought you "have a condition".

I really want to play Punchout right now. LOL, YTMND. I wasn't entirely sold on this TR until he threw in that reference.

I'm glad you enjoyed Knoebels. It's such an awesome place. Not over-hyped in the slightest. Next time take the key back to the front desk, and politely ask for a refund. If you do this immediately after checking in they'll probably just give you the refund without much of a fight. If they put up a fight, give them the key back, and call the bank and charge the room back on your credit card. -
LCD makes plenty of sense in the 37" and 42" sizes that he's considering, and is pretty cheap in that range as well. DLP blows if you're one of the unfortunate people that sees the rainbow effect. And I have a suspicion that it's a much higher % of the population than the manufacturers are claiming. I know several people affected by this problem, including my wife. Even if nobody in your immediate household has the problem, who wants to worry about their friends possibly not being able to watch their TV? DLP does give you a giant screen for cheap though.

My mishap on FoF at KI, anyone else?

Man, you guys have NO IDEA how brutal Flight of Fear was during its first few months of operation in 1996. It made SOB look like a B&M in those days. -

I'd rather pay $2 for a credit than suffer the torture of a Vekoma SLC any day. -

Wow. I'm really jealous. I don't have that credit!!! $2 seems like a very fair price. I was going to drag my little brother out and pay for his admission and everything, just to get this credit. So, $2 seems like a steal. Shari, I'd pay your daughter an easy $5 for this credit. It certainly beats buying an entire ticket.
