  1. Yeah, it's just the basic survival instinct kicking in. If I had a vertebra crushed on a ride, I'd probably swear off rides entirely.
  2. I hope you follow whatever the rules are at Asterix. A lot of parks are already looking upon us "out of town roller coaster weirdos" with suspicion. In my experience leaving too much space with a ratcheting lapbar just alerts the op that he/she needs to staple you more than he/she otherwise would have.
  3. I'm struggling to want to feel badly for the owners, but I can't bring myself to do so. The people who run Kemah didn't do anything shady like run bogus blight studies in order to use eminent domain to steal people's houses. And the town apparently has no zoning. When you buy a house in a town with no zoning restrictions you have to be prepared for a McDonalds to pop up in your back yard. The boardwalk owners even tried to buy them out. Populations grow. Cities expand. Development happens. Deal with it.
  4. You're now 5% of Mantis Man! Congrats. 1,000 cycles on Raptor is no mean feat. I've never seen a short line for it. Were most of these cycles during the early park entry?
  5. Have you seen Hades? It screams "build it as cheaply as possible". Low project cost was listed in the goals for the project, which are posted on GG's website. Though digging that tunnel certainly couldn't have been cheap. Yeah, and that's why I think Intamins have the lock on woodies at the moment. The ride experience is a hell of a lot more consistent. El Toro gives a great ride in the morning (assuming that SFGAdv actually bothers to get it up in the morning). This isn't necessarily true with Voyage. I've had quite a few really lousy cycles on Voyage, and zero bad ones on ET.
  6. Poor fellow had his life stolen from him at far too tender of an age. And people think I'm odd for fearing highways and despising tailgaters. As much as I enjoy this hobby, there will be nothing about coasters on my obit.
  7. I went on a Sunday in May, and it was pretty dead. We did wait for that crappy SLC, but everything else was walk on. One day, of course, doesn't say much about the big picture of how strong attendance was for the season. I couldn't imagine why the rides side would have good numbers this year. There just isn't enough to do there, and it gets really nasty in the heat with nowhere to go to escape it. This chased me right out of the park. I think the park could really use the following: 1) Sally shooting dark ride. 2) GCII woodie. 3) Gerstlauer Eurofighter. 4) Several more medium sized flat rides that are not run in wussy mode.
  8. That is pretty awesome that they throw in the parking, especially since you could just get one Platinum pass for the parking and buy Maxx Passes for the rest of your passes. I'd really like to see Cedar Fair fix the problem with cards not scanning outside of your home park. The current system is clumsy. I don't really plan on buying any Cedar Fair pass for 2008. Kings Island just doesn't interest me anymore.
  9. And get some better trains for it while you're at it. The current ones suck for taller riders. Really? I am 6'2" and I love that coaster- its still in my Top 5. Yeah, I remember barely fitting into the train. And I'm quite thin. Big Dipper did not run particularly well either when I rode it. It had a bad case of not enough speed to get any airtime. Yeah, I think the best thing for it would be to move it to a park that would actually take care of it. But I think the chance of that happening is close to zero. Here we have another John Miller marked for death.
  10. very odd, Elissa. I split off each time I waited for Maverick this summer and got an immediate boarding pass on. It might just of been the times you went on it, I was there the 2nd day the Midwest Trip was at CP and the one time I went on it that day. I just walked up those stairs and jumped on immediately courtesy of the nice Ride Operators. I find this tidbit, a bit odd. Say the least. The point is that they aren't doing single rider correctly. It's supposed to be a separate queue, not something that branches off at the end of the line.
  11. And get some better trains for it while you're at it. The current ones suck for taller riders.
  12. I think CP is going to get a new employee parking lot!
  13. Way to steal my awesome idea.
  14. No way dude. Dick Kinzel is trying to hide this information from the public!
  15. Yes, but the sooner you send in the deposit the better it is for everyone. That way R&E have a better idea earlier on of the true demand for the trip, and won't have to do last minute scrambling in October. My guess is that Europe at least is going to be a 100 person trip.
  16. You make a few generalizations that I don't agree with. Not all CCI coasters were under supported. Shivering Timbers looks pretty over supported to me. And budget cutting has been done on with Gravity Group projects. The best example of this is Hades, which has a short single train, no handicapp access, and cheap cantilever steps to the station that shake every time the train whizzes by. And all the over supporting on Voyage certainly didn't help the ride from tearing the track to shreds. That's one of the most high maintenance rides around. HW is probably going to have to do over 1,000 feet of track work again this year. Intamin doesn't have this problem, and on taller/faster coasters than Voyage.
  17. I don't see the point of this thread. If you're not willing to wait in 1+ hour lines with no chance of a relief from a Q-Bot then you probably shouldn't be going to Cedar Point in the first place.
  18. That YouTube clip is one of the most absurd things I've ever seen. Voice changer? Come on!
  19. A true service to humanity.
  20. Maverick totally blows. Don't ride it. Please make the line shorter for me!
  21. You gotta ride in the second to last row. This is true of most Arrow loopers. But yeah, it's pretty much a joke of a ride that should be replaced. Though you could say this about basically all the coasters there.
  22. It's possible that CCI would have followed the same course had they not gone under. They certainly used steel supports in a few projects. So that isn't exclusive to GG. When HW went to build their third woodie they chose GG because they wanted to stick with what they considered to be essentially the same vendor. Same technical core = same company. IMO.
  23. I have seen quite a few people with both Voyage and Hades in their top 10, and they both came in the top 10 on the Hawker poll last year, so I guess Gravity Group can make that claim too. That's true, if you don't consider GG to be CCI, as I do.

  25. I'm really sorry to hear this Chrissie. If I were in your shoes, I think I would be in jail now from beating the biker punks. May spiders nest in their spleens.
