Kennywood 2008 Construction
ginzo replied to EastCoastn07's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd really hate to see them not replace a dark ride with another dark ride. There are precious few dark rides left. And if you think Gold Rusher is craptacular, you should check out the portable ones found at fairs. Those make Gold Rusher look like Spidey @ IOA. -

That was my experience back in May. It seemed like twice as long as Skyhawk's cycle. And I had been to CP just a few weeks prior. Maybe they shorten the cycle as they get into the busier months. It still seems retarded to me to shorten the cycles because the loading process is the real time eater. I'd much rather wait a few more minutes for a longer cycle. -

I know nothing about the specs of the rides. I just know that Kennywood's swing has a *much* better cycle. Mitch's poll tracks whether you've ridden in the current season or not. Votes on rides that were not ridden in the current season are given less weight in the poll. Just another reason why poll is the best one. -

Are we talking about the same park? I've been to CP three times this year (5 days total), and the lines have been awful. Rarely did I ever see wait times for TTD or MF under 2 hours. Heck, I saw a 75 minute wait posted for Blue Streak last Sunday. Blue Streak! It seems that CP isn't even worth doing unless you do the early entry because the lines are just terrible otherwise. And CP's obsession with capacity makes Skyhawk a total waste of time because the cycle is laughably short. You get up to about one full swing, and then the ride is over. But you still have to wait forever to get on it because the loading/unloading is the real time killer. Why in the world they don't add another 20-30 seconds to the cycle is beyond me. -

Heck, I like the park. I just don't think it's #1, or even close to being the best. And you shouldn't downplay the CP fanboy factor. That alone is a serious detriment to the park. You know if CP was run by Busch with Disney-level hotels, it unquestionably would be #1. The location is great. They just do some goofy things. -
Yeah, it only took CF what 3 weeks to come out and deny the rumors. What were they doing in the interim? It's quite possible that nobody wanted them, or they weren't able to get the sweet heart deal that they were hoping for. In any case, CF can't afford to build 300 ft coasters right now, at least not and continue to pay out the large dividends that they do.

Without getting too heavy into the mechanics of it, you get pigeon mess everywhere. The sidewalks, the street, on buildings, etc. In case you haven't noticed birds have no problem letting loose as they fly. Nice try though. -
In short, the coaster wars are over. Six Flags is shying away from installing monster coasters, and now wants to install more family friendly attractions. Cedar Fair is undergoing growing pains from their recent acquisition, and is looking for help from private equity firms. Both firms are heavily indebted. Cost is obviously the big factor. MF was $25 million in 2000, but would cost more to build today. I think we will see another 300 ft. coaster, but who knows when. Wasn't there a rumor of Heide Park getting one?

I'd hate to see what what your house or car looked like inside. I don't see how it's petty. Parking is $10. I think they can afford to have an $8/hr employee spray the parking lot down. What's petty is them being too cheap to clean that mess up. Do you think that a Disney parking lot would ever be that filthy for long? I work in a downtown area with a huge pigeon population, and I've never seen anywhere near that amount of bird mess. Why? Because they actually clean the streets at night. I wish I had pictures of my recent trip to CP. The parking area is more bird poo white than it is black. It's not a major disaster, but I do think that when you add up several things like this it excludes CP from being #1. -
What's with all the trims too? I hate the trains! This could be a pretty good addition to BGA, as it sounds like it's heavy on aesthetic value. BGA definitely needs this, as BGE is 100x prettier of a park. I'm pretty iffy on using animals for entertainment though. All-in-all I'm more excited about the hypercoaster rumored for 2009.

Good luck. I'm glad your marriage made it through that awful time.

Give me a break. It doesn't cost that much to have one of their relatively low wage workers run through the parking lot every day with a power washer. You should step back and consider how ridiculous you sound in saying that it's not worth it for them to spray the parking lot down to remove disgusting, disease-riddled bird feces. It's called "sanitation". You know, one of the reasons we humans live so long these days. Not a salient comparison. Weather, to date, can't be controlled. The cleanliness of the parking area *can* be controlled, and with relative ease. It doesn't. But my list was of reasons why CP is not #1. The #1 park, to me, has to go the extra mile and nail *every* detail. And they don't. You might have a point if parking was free. -

Disney's Deluxe Resorts are on a *much* higher level of quality. Breakers basically has $100 rooms that they sell for $250 or more. In fact, I've stayed at $100 hotels that I think are much nicer than Breakers. How is an abundance of avian feces not a valid complaint? They could spray wash that stuff. -

10 Reasons why CP is not #1: 1- No Q-bots, or any other fast pass system. I went to CP last Sunday, and Maverick's queue spilled out onto the midway for at least 100 yards. CP is the best park, yet they can't even install a large enough queue to accomodate Maverick's line? 2- The hotels just ain't that nice, yet they cost as much as some 4 or 5 diamond hotels. 3- The counter service level food is awful. And there aren't enough sit down restaurants to really call CP a resort. Let's see. Would I rather eat at the Yachtman's steakhouse, or TGI Fridays? 4- The kiddie area is pathetic. Kings Island whomps them in this department. 5- The park is ugly. Not nearly enough theming or shade. 6- The vast majority of the coasters are just average. 7- Bird poop all over the parking lot. 8- If you're not into thrill rides, there isn't much to do apart from eat. 9- No shooting dark ride, or regular dark ride. They have the Peanuts licensed. Why not put this to good use? 10- They refuse to install another wooden coaster. All this being said, I do enjoy going to CP for the most part. There are a lot of rides packed into that park. I just don't think they're #1, not even close. -

Slickdeals.com advertised a free subscription to Playboy back around 2001. I figured it was a hoax so I signed up using my real address and the name "Willy TheJackass". Lo and behold a few months later Mr. TheJackass started getting Playboy in the mail. -

Cyclops has one really good drop. The rest of the coaster is total meh. -

Phoenix is 78 feet tall, but its drop is only 72 feet. I'm going to go with Phoenix because I really can't think of a coaster with more airtime at any size. Cornball is really good also, but not quite at Phoenix's level of quality. -

http://www.eurostar.com/ It looks like the fares for the London to Paris high speed train go as low as $150 per passenger for one way. Heck, I might try it out just to see what real rail transport is like. -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6977211.stm This may be of interest to anyone wishing to add on England to the Europe trip next year. Paris to London in 2 hours by rail! I dunno about anyone else, but I'd *much* rather take a train than deal with the nightmare of air travel. -
