  2. I call bullshit on the guy that ranked El Toro #107 below the Williams Grove Cyclone when he had Voyage at #1. That's an obvious sandbag.
  3. Time does make a difference. My first visit to Great Adventure was in 1995, and I thought it was a dump. My second visit was this year, and I think they now have the most solid coaster collection I've ever seen. And the park is in pretty damn good shape all things considered. However, when you try to tell me that attending two parks in the same calendar year isn't valid, that's when I call bullshit. Things don't change that fast. And when you're talking two parks that are on opposite coasts, visiting them in the same year is about as good of a comparison as most people are going to get.
  4. Cornball has been underrated for a while now. Buzz bars, tons of airtime, great drops, a very smooth ride, maximum re-ride value. What's there not to like? We got 2 separate Cornball ERT sessions at IB's enthusiast event back in August. Cornball *never* got old, even after an hour of riding it.
  5. Balder having problems during the ECC Scandi trip could not have helped. At least it's still top 10, unlike Colossos.
  6. http://www.ushsho.com/woodrollercoasterpollresults2007.htm Top 10: 1. The Voyage - Holiday World 2. El Toro - SFGAd 3. Thunderhead - Dollywood 4. Troy - Toverland 5. Balder - Liseberg 6. Boulder Dash - Lake Compounce 7. Phoenix - Knoebel's 8. Tremors - Silverwood 9. Hades - Mount Olympus 10. Thunderbird - PowerPark
  7. ^Chin up. Your weight loss performance so far has been really impressive. You're a lot better at this than most people.
  8. Evel led an amazing life. It's oddly refreshing in this safety-obsessed age of being afraid of everything to see a man who made a career out of laughing at death. Great work!
  9. You're funny. You rag on Voyage more than I do, and you have it at #2. Are you a closet Voyage fanboy? Kidding, of course. You should get out to Knoebels and ride the Phoenix so Voyage can go down your rankings some.
  10. ^If you come to the US, you should add Knoebels to your list for Flying Turns. No self respecting woodie junky would miss that.
  11. Tripsdrill is doing something interesting with their new woodie. It's using regular wood, but pre-cut by Cordes. That may be as close to a hybrid as we'll see.
  12. Your opinion is wrong, fanboy.
  13. The Fed is every bit as likely to screw it up as the states are. Some suggested Federal guidelines developed in accordance with industry experts wouldn't necessarily be bad, so long as they aren't mandatory and the states are left to do the regulation. The Fed is an overgrown monster as it is. Zero need to bloat it up even more. This is a solution looking for a problem. As willski pointed out, the statistical safety of amusement rides in the US is *insane*. Walking and eating peanuts are more dangerous.
  14. I went by Mitch's Poll, which as close to a consensus as you're going to get. Flying coasters are at worst an uncomfortable gimmick, and at best fun, but nowhere near as good as a quality hyper, woodie, or invert.
  15. That sounds like fun. I must go to that next year too. Book your hotel way early. I wound up paying almost twice as much for the same room because we booked last minute.
  16. This is one of the most irrational posts I've read on here in a while. First the poster says that visiting two parks on the same calendar year is not a valid comparison. Then he goes on to say that he has no interest in visiting Great Adventure even though he's never been there because "it looks worse even worse than MM".
  17. -WDW Trip in January -TPR Europe Trip! -Break 300 credits. I'm at 203 now, and will be at 211 by the end of 2007. -In addition to the TPR Europe trip, I want the following new credits: Flying Turns Fahrenheit Ravine Flyer II Behemoth S:ROS @ SFNE Boulderdash Steel Hawg -Make it back out to SFGAdv for some more El Toro. -IB enthusiast event again I sincerely doubt that I'll do all of this, but I like to set my goals high.
  18. My back says differently.
  19. Safety is a fine thing, but as an obsession it rots the soul.
  20. I spend my SLC rides using all my might to hold the OTSR as low as possible to minimize the damage to my brain.
  21. I strongly disagree. I rode it in the very front seat twice, and it was the worst thing I ever rode in terms of roughness. That's why it's dead last in my rankings. And the fact that they had to shut it down mid-season in July does not support your contention.
  22. Yeah, let's drive the cost up even more. Waldameer is a tiny park that is probably really putting itself out to install this coaster as it is. AFAIK, woodies have all three sets of wheels just like a steel coaster. I think the issue with inversions is they put massive stress on the track and trains. Wood and wooden coaster trains just can't handle that. Not to mention it would be a bitch to try to bend track into a loop. My art skills are amazing!

  24. There are three installed right now, and one under construction in Korea. Colossos @ Heide Park, Germany Balder @ Liseberg, Sweden El Toro @ Six Flags Great Adventure, New Jersey T Express @ Everland, S. Korea Werner Stengel developed this technology, supposedly because of frustration with the Son of Beast project, and holds the patent on it. There is some sort of arrangement between Stengel and Intamin such that only Intamin can sell these coasters. I hope they get BB back up and running soon. There is a chance that I'll be interviewing in Houston in early 2008. I'd be pretty bummed to fly all the way out there and not get to ride this.
