Adventureland (Iowa) Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to rbpia's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No. Yes. Yin is right, the Infinity Coaster is not simply a Euro Fighter with higher-capacity trains. Euro Fighter coasters were designed with a specific kind of layout in mind. A slight bit of speculation here - it likely wasn't until parks like Hansa Park and Fuji-Q Highland asked for a big (literally) variation on the design that Gerstlauer considered designing a track and train system from the ground up that could handle more intense forces, much larger layouts and multiple train configurations without any trouble, hence the classification "infinity coaster". They're pretty different. The infinity coaster's trains appear to be designed around a different center line than the Euro Fighters' as well, meaning that you won't be seeing rides like Spongebob adopt that style of train (likely also why they have started to fit T-bar restraints to the compact Euro Fighter car, Iron Shark et al). -

Some people like to ride water rides without having to change into swimwear. That doesn't mean that the log flume should remain in the park (it's definitely at the end of its service life), but you can't just throw out those guests' needs like it's nothing. -

They're probably not doing it just for giggles. Rides have service lives - once the service life runs out, they need to get the ride out of there as soon as possible, especially if it's a discontinued ride like a Falling Star, if they don't want to be up to their eyeballs in maintenance costs. -

Questionable coaster elements

If they wouldn't have designed that building with the wavy roof, they wouldn't have had to design those hills the way they are. I would put the blame on Tokyo Dome City for that one and not necessarily Intamin. -
RCT3 Mac App Store Update
A.J. replied to thrillseeker4552's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
This has been happening with every update. The reason why this happens is that most Mac apps are self-contained - when you "update" the app, you're basically deleting the the old version completely and then installing the new version in its place. Custom content is installed within the application's package (I believe) so it goes away when the old app is deleted. Always make backups of your custom content so you can quickly replace them after an update. -

Give yourself three and a half hours. It might be a little tough getting out of Pittsburgh, and a little tough through Harrisburg, but the rest is super-easy, you're on Interstate 76 for most of the trip. Keep in mind that it's going to be $21-23 USD in tolls both ways. -

Seriously? Do you even know all of the kinds of roller coasters and flat rides that Gerstlauer makes and has made earlier in their history? You could be riding a Gerstlauer ride and not even realize it! The last thing that that company needs right now is people refusing to ride their attractions! -
Robb & Elissa in Japan - 2015!
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I definitely think that Thunder Dolphin does its job for the park. It definitely looks like a coaster that guests would want to ride just for the "wow" factor of being on top of the building, or going through the Ferris wheel. That kind of coaster is really great for a downtown park because the sheer existence of that massive coaster, right smack dab in the middle of EVERYTHING, probably makes residents just want to stop by and take a lap. -
The shoulder harnesses have nothing to do with the fact that it's a launched coaster. It's the seat's tall backrest that keeps you in place during a launch - there are plenty of launched coasters all over the world with only lap bars but tall backrests for your body to be pushed back onto (Top Thrill Dragster, Xcelerator, Verboten, et al). B&M sitting coaster trains just don't have a place to anchor the restraint in front of the riders because the cars are so much closer together, so they use shoulder harnesses (at least, this is what I've come to understand). You can have a clamshell-style restraint in the form of a shoulder harness, just look at Banshee and the wing coasters.

Here's hoping that they do G2 versions of all their classic rides from the eighties like the smaller Top Spin, the inward-facing Frisbee, the Take Off and the Troika.

RCT3 For Mac
A.J. replied to coaster57's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Custom scenery has nothing to do with the performance of the game or what computer you need to run it properly. That being said, your Macbook Air won't run it, period. Intel HD Graphics 6000, which is the only graphics chipset on the current Airs, is not supported according to the game's page on the Mac App Store. Macbook Pros can run it because they have two graphics cards - the Intel one and then a discrete Nvidia one. Now, the 3000 and 4000 might be the only ones on the Mac App Store page because it hasn't been updated since the 5000 and the 6000 came out. You might want to ask Aspyr about it: http://support.aspyr.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?utm_source=MacApp&utm_medium=SupportLink&utm_campaign=roller-coaster-tycoon-3-platinum -

Actually, Interstate 80 east of the Bellefonte / State College area (Exit 161) has been pretty quiet lately. Plus, it's now one of the very few zones in Pennsylvania that has a 70 MPH speed limit instead of 65. -

With that being said it is possible to get all coasters and re-rides in on normal days. Except for Fahrenheit. Because Fahrenheit.
