Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wouldn't count on it, doesn't Hersheypark have some sort of height limit to which the Kissing Tower is the only exception? Anywhere in the US that would construct an Intamin coaster along the lines of Balder will have my money immediately. With the addition of Laff Track, Hersheypark shows that they are continuing to invest in the Midway America area, even as The Boardwalk starts to encroach on its space, so anything could happen. Also, if it was a major addition along the lines of their Intamins for 2016, we likely would have had some sort of crazy stealth marketing campaign by now... -
Proslides two new waterslide concepts
A.J. replied to VelikiBrat's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks like it, likely a slightly different approach to the traditional "master blaster" type of slide. If I'm not mistaken, ProSlide's uphill water slides have been exclusively LIM-powered up to this point. -

This is the kind of water slide that Water Country USA's Meltdown wishes it was. Looks like so much fun! -

Curious, what benefit would that give? I'd rather have a safety redundancy than the ability to put my hands up on that particular kind of ride. A regular sit-down coaster? Sure! But this? I don't think it's necessary. -

Um, yes they have. Those construction photos definitely look like Skyrush / Intimidator style track though, because Premier typically makes their double spine look like a single, taller one. Maybe a misprint? -
Olympia Looping (Cranger Kirmes 2015)
A.J. replied to CoasterB's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This right here. I think that it's the same reason why traveling fairs in the United States seem to have a "carnie" feel - the show company just needs to set up their rides, make sure they're running safely, and nothing else. That one amazing ride on the European circuit (Olympia Looping, Stargate / Megaspin, Transformer, et al) might be the operator's livelihood - their one-ride show. The object of the game is to get as many people on the ride as possible, and operators pretty much have to turn their fair ride into an art form to do so. -

Likely yes, but they may have had more team members on the platform than necessary. -
Avalanche's LOOPING Vertical Drop Water Slide!

They really need to have some form of drainage system or something to make sure riders' heads remain above the water at the end of the runoff. -

Because OMGBUYMOARRMC!!!!1! In all seriousness, Intamin coasters just don't happen to be what US parks are looking for right at this very moment. That could change lickety-split, you never know. -
Theme Park Review Subreddit - Thoughts on this?
A.J. replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
From what I've come to understand, a lot of subreddits based on specific websites or content creators (ex: The Game Theorists YouTube channel) are used for fans to contribute their own new content and for creators to get opinions on what content they should put out next. Since you guys seem to always release Theme Park Review videos "when they're done / ready / important", and you always know which videos to repost, getting others' opinions seems a bit redundant. So that means that the only useful thing for the subreddit might be theme park updates, such as Lake Compounce's recent announcement of Phobia or whatever Dollywood will be showing us in a week. Reddit is made for threads to be popular for a couple of days and then sink. Because Theme Park Review relies so heavily on continuing and referencing older discussions, it might not be the best setup. -
I've come to understand that Disney rarely (if ever) makes an attraction where you CAN'T take your bag along with you. I've never had any problems with that, I've taken my big hulking backpack on Space Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Kali River Rapids and even Expedition Everest, being able to jam it in between my feet each time, and with no discernible damage to anything inside afterward. I can't speak for Rock n' Roller Coaster's policies but remember that part of the ride's story is that there are separate stations for boarding and exiting (the back alley for loading, and then disembarking at the Aerosmith concert), so there's no way to put storage bins on the platform without "breaking character". Like a lot of things concerning big corporate park, we're really the only ones who will notice. Cedar Fair likes to use generic roller coaster imagery alongside cloned rides in the beginning of the commercial, followed by an abstract representation of the specific park's rides when they show the logo. I personally think that that's a pretty good way to save time when creating and editing the commercials, especially when they likely want to debut them all at once across the chain. But, yes, as a theme park person, that drives me nuts as well.

No problem with this approach especially if you want to explore the park at a leisurely pace your first time. The tickets are actually a good deal if you don't plan to marathon ride. I agree with Larry here, you should only purchase the pay-one-price plan if you expect to re-ride a lot, and you're hanging around from opening to closing. Early in the season they do a buy-one-get-one-free deal and that's when it's always worth it. But, you can take one spin on all four of the major coasters and have plenty of tickets left over for other rides by purchasing a $20 book. Based on what you've described it sounds like your estimation of buying three books total for the two of you looks to be right on point. Don't even have a battle plan. Just explore, seriously. If you must have a battle plan, upon entering the park from the parking lot, take a ride on Impulse, and then it's a nearly straight shot to (clockwise) Twister, Stratosfear, Wipeout, Fandango, Gasoline Alley, Phoenix, Flying Turns, Looper, and Flyer. -

Yep, Intamin's been ditching the shoulder pads and going overhead lap bar only recently. Some coasters like Maverick and Intimidator 305 still need the harnesses though, to keep riders bodies in place through those lightning-fast transitions. -

Yes, they do, typically at the bottom of the first drop due to the forces and how easily the restraints are pulled / pushed down. Also, if you leave too much space between your lap and the restraint in the station, the operator will push it down on you. -

I found an on-ride video where there isn't a whole lot of spinning, it gives a better sense of the layout. Starts at 0:26. -

Even better during single train operation because there's no risk of stuff getting lost. During that time they also don't mind when you set smaller items such as sunglasses and water bottles right near the train (as opposed to in the designated area). I definitely agree with this, especially in regards to the front half of the park (Impulse, Downdraft, etc). It may come across as a carnie-style park upon first glance because there's lots of asphalt and rides just kind of plopped down where it's convenient. Even in the more secluded back area, there are very few "real" pathways and lots of gravel areas. However, the park really encourages you to kick back a bit and simply explore the nooks and crannies, with very little punishment for doing so (no admission, no commitment). Oh, and ride Kozmo's Kurves. I don't care. Just ride it. You know you want to deep down.
