Who will break 500 feet?
coasterbill replied to coasterlover420's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While I think the Polar Coaster looks great I'd love to see a coaster with a 500 foot drop and I think Intamin is clearly capable of doing this with their rocket coasters. I think there are really only 2 factors holding people back on a coaster this large... cost (obviously) and fear of maintenance issues based on Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka's well documented issues in their first few seasons. Also, the only companies I can see buying a coaster like this in the US are Six Flags and Cedar Fair. Six Flags has no reason to break their own record, and Cedar Fair would probably only put a coaster like this at Cedar Point and they already have Dragster. -
This. Parks are businesses and while a lot of them care about history and nostalgia nobody cares enough that they're willing to pour money into a ride that sucks and is unpopular with pretty much everyone year after year because it's historic. Like CFC said there are a few arrow rides that should be preserved because they're good (and in the case of Tennessee Tornado, GREAT) rides. Any Arrow ride that's popular enough to justify it's operating expenses isn't going anywhere. We're talking about the majority of Arrow rides that suck and see decreasing ridership year after year.

Same here but I have to pull for Sweeden only because of Henrik Lundqvist. I really wish professionals didn't play hockey in the olympics. It would be much more exciting and we wouldn't have to deal with this stupid olympic break in the NHL.

I've only ridden the Batman clones at Great Adventure and Magic Mountain but if you think those rides are rough then maybe riding coasters isn't for you. They couldn't be any smoother. -

The best thing to do is to download a park that has custom supports. Once you open the park the objects will be loaded into your object data folder and you'll be able to add them next time you open the scenario editor. My suggestion is to download Starpointe from NE. You'll have the objects and you can see how Pacificoaster built his supports by opening the park and carefully viewing the coasters and their support work. Welcome to the forums! -
Theme Parks In Iraq.
coasterbill replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh my god it's a Wild Wind. The short history of these is that a few were built in the US around 2000 or 2001 but they never operated because they were too intense to meet American safety standards (this is backed up by RCDB). Most never opened period but a few are operating overseas (in the Philippines, Tunisia, Venezuela and I guess Iraq). -

I've never heard anyone complain about headbanging on any B&M invert at any park, anywhere ever. -

I'm sorry what? The fact is it's not going to stop anyone from going to the park, and if the increased foot traffic means upcharge attractions will be more profitable inside the park then that's probably where they're going to put them. -

... yeah I'm sure you did. -
I hate when parks don't let you re-ride a coaster when the train comes back to the station and there's nobody waiting for your row. This is especially true when it's the end of the night and the next train will end up being the last train and it's not even close to being full. At Lake Compounce we were riding Boulder Dash at the end of the night and they let us re-ride once because our row was empty and then they sent that train twice because we were cheering when we got back to the station (this wasn't a coaster group, just regular park guests). That's a great way to end the night at a park and it guarantees that the people on that train will leave happy and will want to come back. At Great Adventure they always let you re ride Nitro and El Toro at the end of the night. On El Toro it usually turns out that the front few rows will be full on the last train and that's about it (because everyone waits for the front and then they tell them that they're not guaranteed a front seat ride so they end up waiting for the rows right behind it). On more than one occasion I've seen them go out of their way to find seats for the people who were in those seats next to single riders so that everyone who wants to re-ride can, and then send the train. They're awesome. At Six Flags New England they NEVER let you re-ride anything ever (except for Tomohawk), and no matter how nicely you ask you'll always be met with a pissed off attitude. I never expect anything extra from anyone but if you have to send the train anyway and the row is empty... come on. It can make such a difference in someone's day and it requires no extra work from anyone at all. From the Golden Tickets. The only explanation I have for this is that 7% of people are idiots and I'm convinced they've never actually been to Six Flags New England.

Mean Streak? -
So they're substantially reinforcing the tower with a ton of new supports and building a brand new pathway with an animal area stretching a pretty substantial distance that leads to 3 separate drop rides... Obviously it is or they wouldn't be doing it, but is anyone else surprised that this is cheaper than just building a drop tower in the park somewhere?

Maybe so, but Cedar Point would love nothing more than for you to be stuck in an arcade or a store with your kids for the duration of a rain storm. -

I'm not sure why everyone else thinks they should get rid of Soak City. The only logic behind that is either a) You personally never go to Soak City or b) Soak City is dated and is a pretty crappy water park. While Soak City is a crappy water park, if it's making them money and giving people a reason to spend an extra night in one of their ridiculously expensive hotels then they would be insane to get rid of it. They should probably revitalize it and make it suck less but they shouldn't get rid of it. Challenge Park is a different story though (unless it's a lot more profitable than we think). -

Soak City is a terrible water park but I don't see it going anywhere either. It makes Cedar Point even more of a multi-day destination which helps their hotel business and they're always packed. I would love to see them modernize the size on the Camper Village side of Magnum though. The only thing I like about Challenge Park is that it's open an hour later than the park is. I kind of like visiting after I leave the park and riding the Skyscraper... Challenge Golf needs to die though, it's falling apart and needs to be replaced with a miniature golf course that doesn't suck or something else entirely, then again it probably won't be because I'd imagine it has a really low overhead. We went to play this year and one of the 2 courses was closed because it was flooding from the waterfall, you can't pay to play at the booth where you get the clubs like you can at every other Miniature Golf course in the world and on one of the holes (with the false hole that runs into a tube that drops it down a series of other tubes and holes before putting the ball near the actual hole) is boarded up so that it doesn't work right anymore and it drops the ball near the actual hole where it's now going ridiculously fast so it goes flying off of the green and you get to go chase it through the course. -
I think that's the problem with later B&M coasters in general. I enjoy rides like Griffon and Apollo's Chariot, but they just don't have the same thrill factor as, say, Intamin or RMC coasters. But this does make B&M an ideal ride manufacturer for parks, like BGW, that serve a family, as opposed to enthusiast, audience. Their rides tend to have wider appeal, and, as I said, they're usually quite good and B&M can still surprise you (Hair Raiser is a good example here). I remember riding Apollo's Chariot back in 2001 when it didn't take much to impress me coaster-wise (Medusa at Great Adventure was in my top 10) and we all got off of that ride thinking it was one of the most boring coasters we've ever ridden. I liked Alpengeist but felt like it was pretty dull too. While I remember liking all of the other coasters at the park there was only one of them that really blew me away, and that was Big Bad Wolf.

If that's true, why wouldn't it be in Challenge Park? -
Everyone is... I'm 6 foot 4, 200 pounds and back in High School people used to joke that I was anorexic or that I'd blow away in a swift wind because I'm so skinny. I'm still the same way (even though I eat like crap). I fit on Wicked Twister but it's pretty close... those restraints are idiotic, especially when compared to the ones on the other impulse coasters that are nothing like that. I can't speak for NTAG but don't worry about it because of Wicked Twister... Wicked Twister is insane.

I've never had any issues with tightening restraints on Gatekeeper or Wild Eagle. We rode Gatekeeper on Labor Day weekend so that issue was fixed, but as far as I know it's still an issue on Wild Eagle right? If the restraints did tighten I didn't notice, I found both coasters to be incredibly comfortable. -

I personally never buy a skip the line pass for any park before I get to the park. My suggestion is to park in the back lot, ride Maverick first and keep riding rides until the lines start getting long for anything in the back of the park. Once you see a line that looks too long, buy Fastlane, if that never happens, don't buy it. Cedar Fair makes Fastlane Plus an easy thing to buy, it's not like Six Flags where it can take up to 45 minutes if you don't get it right away... at Cedar Point just go to any store and you'll have one within 5 minutes. They're not going to sell out on a normal day. Whatever you do, don't judge this on the line for Raptor or Gatekeeper in the morning. These lines will be huge regardless of how many people are actually in the park. You shouldn't be anywhere near these rides in the morning. The only time I'd ever buy a skip the line pass without seeing the crowds is if I'm visiting a park on a Saturday in October.
