  1. I still have it at #1 overall (just barely though because El Toro is so damn amazing) and #1 steel by a wide margin. Personally I love the feeling of speed, which is probably why I've ranked Kingda Ka and Top Thrill Dragster higher than most people. To me, there's no coaster that feels like it's going as fast as Millennium Force for such a long time. I305 is close I guess, but it's in an open field. Millennium Force is flying through tunnels, by trees and buildings (and now dinosaurs) which enhances the feeling of speed even more. Plus, I love riding it in the back and getting yanked through the overbanks. Oh, and Millennium Force does have airtime. I don't know why people are convinced that it doesn't. If you ride it in the back later in the day you get some very good airtime on multiple hills. It's not like it's El Toro airtime (nothing is)... I wouldn't call it an airtime machine or anything and where you sit on the train and when you ride it is a factor (which I know some people don't like to factor in when they rank coasters and I totally respect their argument) but the ride gives very good airtime in addition to it's relentless speed. I guess I understand why some people don't like it as much as I do but I absolutely love that coaster.
  2. In order to do that they'd need to shoot a full train on media day and have the design team put that into the design, then print the maps, ship them and distribute them throughout the park in less than 24 hours (or switch them out mid-season which isn't really necessary). I'd think these will be in use as is all year, and they look fine as-is. Sure a real image might be better but it's not really practical.
  3. That's weird about the 7 car train, I'd never heard of that happening. Personally I think Raptor is amazing. I'm not one to speak on Mantis because I don't really like any standup coasters.
  4. It should, and it pains me to say that. I used to rank that ride as my favorite coaster and had it ahead of a lot of coasters I now list ahead of it. It's a great coaster but it's a shadow of it's former self, and I think a lot of it's #1 votes are from people that rode it before the transformation. This coaster in the early 2000's was unbelievable. Personally I don't even think it's the best coaster in the park anymore (and based on the best coasters by state thread I'm not alone). I like Goliath better.
  5. Here's mine. By the way, this is random but does anyone else find ranking Journey to Atlantis against normal coasters almost impossible? It took me forever to figure out where to put it because I love it, but it's really more of a boat ride. 6. I would agree with this. I always wanted to vote in this poll but until that came out I never did because I didn't have the time. Now that we have that tool I always vote.
  7. I didn't get to do my ballot yet but this is my girlfriend's. No matter how much I tried to reason with her she loves Wingriders and Pony Express a lot and doesn't like Skyrush or Bizarro at SFNE at all because "the bars dig into the sides of her legs". --Generator: Jordan's Ballot Helper 2013 (steel)-- --Ballot: 113691a7f01-- LOCATION IN NEXT LINE (Please LEAVE THIS LINE IN BALLOT) ~"New York" NAME IN NEXT LINE (Please LEAVE THIS LINE IN THE BALLOT) ~"Brittany" RANK THE FOLLOWING RIDING SENSATIONS <-LEAVE Abrupt Airtime_____________________________,y,y,1 Floating Airtime___________________________,y,y,2 Lateral Forces_____________________________,y,y,3 Sensation of Speed_________________________,y,y,4 Out of Control Feeling/Directional Changes_,y,y,5 Positive G's/Loops_________________________,y,y,6 COASTER NAME PARK LOC <--Please leave this GateKeeper Cedar Point OH,y,y,1 Intimidator 305 Kings Dominion VA,y,y,2 Maverick Cedar Point OH,y,y,3 Kumba Busch Gardens Tamp FL,y,y,4 Favorite Wood Coaster Any Park Anywhere **,y,y,5 Wild Eagle Dollywood TN,y,y,6 Millennium Force Cedar Point OH,y,y,7 Kingda Ka Six Flags Great Ad NJ,y,y,8 Top Thrill Dragster Cedar Point OH,y,y,9 Revenge of the Mummy Universal Studios FL,y,y,10 Manta SeaWorld Orlando FL,y,y,11 Montu Busch Gardens Tamp FL,y,y,12 Incredible Hulk Islands of Adventu FL,y,y,13 Tatsu Six Flags Magic Mo CA,y,y,14 Afterburn Carowinds NC,y,n,15 Raptor Cedar Point OH,y,y,16 SheiKra Busch Gardens Tamp FL,y,y,17 Storm Runner Hersheypark PA,y,y,18 Mystery Mine Dollywood TN,y,y,19 XCelerator Knott's Berry Farm CA,y,y,20 Fav Giant Inv. 8. Same here... I've never gotten so soaked on a log flume.
  9. Forbidden Journey for me. That ride is flat out amazing.
  10. You said short woody....LMAO..sorry, couldn't resist. You'll love this post even more then Sorry ScreaminKid... lol
  11. Oops. You're right, apparently that was a similar incident. I edited the post with the new news story.
  12. So this on event is all over the news now. Poor SeaWorld. abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2014/02/seaworld-dolphin-bites-girl-prompts-peta-probe-request/ Edit: Posted an old video before but it's a recent news story and a separate incident.
  13. Wingriders are much better but then again so are most coasters. I rode X back in 2002 and thought it was one of the worst coasters ever due to the merciless beating it gives it's riders. After hearing about how great it was for over a decade I rode it again in 2013 with it's new trains and still thought it was one of the worst coasters I've ever ridden. Both times I ended up in the back row on the outside so this might have something to do with it but I'm not sure. Wingriders are extremely comfortable but completely forceless. The question about liking wingriders is do you think the wingrider gimmick is good enough that you still like the ride despite the forcelessness and I absolutely do... I love them and think riding on the side of the track is great. When you're comparing them to X2 they win by default (in my book) because even if you think wingriders are the most boring coasters ever at least they don't beat the hell out of you. I'd rather be bored to death than beat to death.
  14. The weather here is becoming some kind of sick joke. Sure southern New York has always gotten it's fair share of snow but this year is horrible, and we're supposed to get buried again on Monday. Oh, and because of the crazy amount of snow and ice we've had the roads in the suburbs are all starting to look like the roads in Manhattan. I've never seen so many potholes in my life.
  15. You mention the issue with this being too many complaints, but the real issue would be that the lack of smoking areas would lead to everyone breaking the rules and smoking in other places. I remember at the old Yankee Stadium (the one that didn't suck) they had a no smoking policy, and guess what happened... you couldn't go into ANY BATHROOM without inhaling tons of smoke because everyone went into the bathrooms to "discretely" smoke. Since cigarettes are addictive, smokers aren't going to go a whole day without smoking them, they'll probably end up smoking in bathrooms or in other areas throughout the park. Designated smoking areas are a great compromise and as long as the policy is enforced I have no issues with it at all.
  16. My complaints about Six Flags New England have been frequent as I really feel like this park has gotten progressively worse since around 2005 with constant removals of flat rides and theming that gave the park it's charm. The removal of the iconic ferris wheel was inexcusable as was the removal of Timber Town, the Log Flume and Shipwreck Falls to be replaced by rides with ridiculous color schemes that killed any and all theming in the park (I love Goliath but it looks horrible in Crackaxle Canyon). Combine this with their incredibly rude staff members and I always leave this place annoyed. That being said I'm really hoping this ride is a step in the right direction. It's going to be an iconic ride, roughly twice the height of anything else in the park and it should have mass appeal. It's also going to be nice to have an observation style ride since the park has a nice setting that goes totally unnoticed from the paths and can only really be appreciated from the coasters and from Scream now that the Ferris Wheel is gone. While the ride will scare some people it's still going to give a wider range of guests the opportunity to view the park from the air than the coasters do.
  17. Thunderhawk is so frustrating because this coaster could be great if they would maintain it properly and get rid of the trims. Doing things like getting rid of the buzz bars is a step in the wrong direction. In the front seat, this ride offers 2 pops of ejector (and I mean EJECTOR) airtime when the trims aren't on, but the ride is so painful you can't enjoy it. I'm sure it would have some great airtime on the final bunny hills too if they were willing to invest in the coaster by doing some re-tracking and turning those awful trims off. If they did that, this coaster would easily be the best ride in the park but it's never going to happen. I understand that turning the trims off makes the amount of re-tracking needed increase even more and I know you can't justify that expense from a business standpoint but it's a shame because this coaster really doesn't have to suck.
  18. When people go to Orlando they're generally on vacation and they're willing to pay more for things. We went a few weeks ago for the first time and had no problem shelling out the money for park hopper tickets with the unlimited express pass for the same reason we didn't have a problem shelling out over $50 each for 2 park combo fun-spot tickets plus tickets for the Skycoaster in their Kissimmee park along with a video and a T shirts. We also went to Busch Gardens and Sea World and while the tickets were cheap (we got the 2 park $99 2-day combo) we upgraded for special experiences, souvenirs, ponchos for water rides since it was cold and Quick Queue tickets at Busch Gardens. We're not made of money or anything, but when you go to Orlando you're usually on vacation and you don't mind spending extra money because you budget for it ahead of time and save up for months or even years. If this were a regional park it would be a bigger deal, but it's a resort destination.
  19. It's actually pretty easy. For example... this is from Cedar Point's "Roller Coasters" page. I'm not arguing about whether Goliath is wood or steel because I don't care, and I don't care if Cedar Point thinks this is a coaster... but it isn't.
  20. I think Trabant style rides are completely pointless crap and have since I was a kid. I don't know why anyone thinks these rides are enjoyable (including kids), they're boring and actually slightly uncomfortable. I don't know if I'd call them a disappointment though because that would imply that I at one point had decent expectations for them.
  21. I don't know what you're smoking but I want some. And this is coming from someone that loves wing coasters.
  22. Honestly I think most parks are improving every year. Very few parks actually get worse over time. Universal Orlando is obviously out-building everyone with tons of amazing new attractions so they're probably improving faster than anyone else. If the spirit of the thread is to talk about parks that were mediocre before and are significantly better now the parks that come to mind are Disney's California Adventure and on a smaller scale, Fun Spot in Orlando.
  23. Going on opening day is a great idea! I'll be there for sure. Crowds are generally really light, though the park is opening a few weeks later this year so the weather might be a little better, possibly leading to larger crowds. It's almost a guarantee that every coaster will be open (except for Kingda Ka because of the construction). I've probably been to Great Adventure 10-15 times in the last few years and every coaster has been open every time I've been there (including opening day last year when it was really cold). The only downsides to opening day are that sometimes the coasters don't have all of their trains yet (last year Batman and El Toro opened with 1 and Nitro opened with 2) and the rides break down a lot throughout the day (I'm not sure why but this happens every year). Crews can also be a little slower since they're new, but popular rides like El Toro and Kingda Ka (if it's open) will probably have great crews so it's not too big of a deal. Also, Great Adventure doesn't care about weather at all. So if it's cold and people are talking about other parks not opening their coasters in cold temperatures due to "manufacturers recommendations" rest assured that Great Adventure doesn't concern themselves with that kind of crap.
  24. A purple (ugh) 2005 Dodge Neon that I bought for $500. It had no AC, no cruise control, no cassette OR CD player, 1 working speaker, no working hazard lights, no working cigarette lighter / power adapter area and it was the slowest car on planet earth. Still, I loved that car and put about 60,000 miles on it and less than $2,000 into it (including the cost of the car) so I can't complain at all. I kind of miss that car sometimes.
