Knoebels Discussion Thread

I really don't think it was humanly possible to get wet on the bumper boats without falling off of the dock. My girlfriend and I went to opposite ends of the pool and went at each other head on and nobody got as much of a splash. Was it just me? -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Cedar Point has terrible food. I'd much rather visit these franchises than that crap. Also, you can't get Chickie and Pete's or Pink's outside of the park without traveling hundreds of miles. -

This is my guess based on the information we have. It's definitely going to go in this area and based on the ride layout I think this is the most practical placement for the station. -

I have to say the more I think about this, the more I love it. They're replacing some pretty terrible bumper boats and boat tag which seemed pretty unpopular. Both rides were seasonal and were closed during the Covered Bridge festival. I rode the Bumper Boats once and was underwhelmed and I never even bothered with Boat Tag. I would think you'll probably enter the queue right near where the bumper boat entrance is now near the Skyride so it won't interfere with the layout of the Covered Bridge festival. That's really the only option that makes sense and the rendering seems to back that idea up as they'll probably want the main lift near the road so guests can get a good view of the rides signature elements. -

This will absolutely be an up-charge. Every slingshot at a major theme park is. -

I'm not sure why people are still skeptical about whether or not this is really what they're getting. They came right out and said it. I highly doubt they're just flat out making things up. -

How does the clue of visiting 3 states lead to Zierer? I'm assuming they rode a few similar types of coasters from different manufacturers before deciding on this one. That's really the only thing I can come up with because I was trying to figure out the same thing. Maybe some standard euro fighter like Untamed, then Wicked and then maybe Dare Devil Dive since it has different trains. Just a completely random and uneducated guess... -

Didn't Donut Time have Starbucks Coffee anyway? I'm not shocked about the addition of Cinnabon since a lot of other Cedar Fair parks have them but it's nice to see Cedar Fair upping their food offerings with all of these outside vendors (Chick Fil A, Chickie and Pete's, Pinks, Cinnabon, Famous Daves, TGI Fridays...) since their standard park food is pretty mediocre. As far as the slingshot goes, I'm assuming this will be a lot like the version at Great Adventure which is a lot of fun. The open air seating makes a huge difference and the ride has a very permanent look to it which is more than I can say for most theme park slingshot installations. I'll definitely be taking this thing for a ride or two. -

Well this should be fun! It probably won't be on the level of Pheonix or Twister but this is a big deal for a park like Knoebels and it's something they've been lacking. I wonder where they're going to put it though... hopefully it won't come at the expense of any notable attractions. -
Best & Worst Coaster Theming

I wouldn't call Ride of Steel "poorly themed". The original poster is looking for rides that have attempted to theme but have just done a terrible job of it. Ride of Steel is completely generic and completely unthemed. I don't think any attempt at theming was ever made. -

^^ I agree with this also. It sounds like a much better plan. -

I never really thought about it because it's Six Flags and I just expect their theming to suck, but you're right... this ride makes no sense. The truck at the end of the ride ruins the whole "happy ending" thing, Gotham was just as screwed up when you left as when the ride started. Kudos to you for noticing this... now it will bother me every time I ride it. -
Now that I've finally ridden it, I'm going with Kumba's zero g roll.

Just to clarify, the title says "coaster" but you mentioned drop rides in your post. We're only taking about coasters right? -

The general consensus of GateKeeper from guests last season was "kind of lame." Hence why the ride was basically a walk-on at the end of the night all season long. So I would argue that the general public does care about the ride experience. To be fair, everything in the front of the park is a walk on on most nights. Raptor isn't lame by any stretch but it's line (which is generally full and spilling out onto the midway every morning) is usually empty at night. -
Crazy Twists?

I305 and Maverick come to mind for me. El Toro's finale is close but the twists aren't as sudden as they are on I305 and Maverick. -
Best & Worst Coaster Theming
coasterbill replied to richards.adam's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think Revenge of the Mummy is probably the best theming I've seen on a coaster. I want to give Mystery Mine an honorable mention though since they don't have nearly the budget that Universal and Disney have. Following your guidelines of "worst theming" I'd say Disaster Transport if the worst I've seen. While it was actually pretty good when compared to rides like the pirate coaster at Seaside heights, you specified theming that sucked because it made absolutely no sense and I'll never understand how Disaster Transport had anything to do with traveling to Alaska which apparently was the whole point of the ride. -

Best B&M sitting coaster?
coasterbill replied to rcjp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This past week we took a trip to Florida and visited Sea World, Busch Gardens, Universal, Islands of Adventure, both Fun Spot's and the park at Daytona beach... all for the first time. We rode a lot of great coasters but I thought Kumba was far and away the best of them all. Between Kumba and Montu, Busch Gardens Tampa just made me mad at B&M for the uninspired loopers they build now. I never understood the hype about Kumba from looking at it as it doesn't look that much different than the other B&M coasters in pictures, and even though I know you can't judge a ride based on what it looks like I couldn't help it because most B&M looping coasters look the same and ride the same. There's no originality to any of them. The thing that makes Kumba different is that it takes every element at an insanely fast speed and has a few quirks to it that would be smoothed over with a long, drawn out, perfectly executed but completely boring transition in a newer B&M coaster. Riding Kumba in any seat is great, but riding it in the back right seat is ridiculous... and that zero G roll should be illegal in most states. The ride is out of control but still really smooth despite it's age. I still can't believe B&M built it. Kumba is one of the most amazing coasters I've ever ridden. PS: We did ride Hulk for the first time this trip and it was a great ride, but it doesn't even belong in the same conversation as Kumba. -

I didn't want to hijack an Ocean City thread by professing my love for Rehoboth Beach but since alilstronger opened that can of worms... he speaks the truth. If you want a fast paced boardwalk with a younger party atmosphere Ocean City is great, I love Ocean City. But if you want to spend the majority of your time relaxing at the beach and walking around in a super clean / super affordable and really laid back town that caters to families then I couldn't possibly recommend Rehoboth enough. Our family has vacationed in Rehoboth every year since I was born (and my avatar is actually the Paratrooper in Rehoboth Beach). What I suggest (if you can swing it) is visiting Rehoboth for a few days (at least) and making a day trip to Ocean City (especially if it's not a great beach day). My only tip for Rehoboth beach is to make sure you don't exceed the speed limit (even by a few miles per hour) and never try to beat a traffic light. The police in Dewey / Rehoboth and Lewes are ridiculously strict about traffic laws.
