Will they design this next generation of standups in a way that will make the eventual conversion to floorless easier?3 points

Six Flags and Cedar Fair just entirely switched places over the course of one year. It's so weird.3 points

So not to get all coaster nerdy, but is B&M doing the launch for this? How long will the bouncey seats last?2 points

Exactly. I've always had the mantra "You can put more layers on, you can only take so many off!"2 points

Kings Dominion joining Carowinds in going year-round for 2023. https://rvahub.com/2022/10/18/kings-dominion-expanding-to-year-round-operations-in-2023/2 points

I'm with Elissa on this; you can always bundle up for the cold, but there's no escaping sweltering heat. I'm very curious what the ride lineup is going to look like during these winter months, especially given CF's reluctance to operate rides outside of manufacturer recommendations. Last Winterfest they shut down Dominator when it hit 40 degrees.1 point

I’m going to be cautiously optimistic for this coaster. The only standup I have ridden is Green Lantern that I did not like but given B&M’s reputation and it being over 20 years since their last standup, I am expecting this to be much more comfortable to ride.1 point

My "trick" to actually enjoy the old B&M Standups was always to "sit" on the seat and not have you knees locked out, so I'd imagine this will work roughly the same way.1 point

We toyed with the idea of coming to this event but went to KI haunt instead..........................maybe next year?!1 point

People like different things. I'd much rather go to a park when it's 35 (if coasters are running) than go to any Orlando park in the summer. You can dress for cold.1 point

As someone who worked at BGW for years, I know that Jan/Feb/March can be cold and rainy. I don't think it would be much fun visiting these parks when it's so cold outside. When I lived in Japan in 2001, I'd often visit parks on the weekends when the temps were in the 30s and there was snow on the ground. Fun? Eh...not really.1 point

New pass pricing is live. Pretty much all people have to have gold now with silver black out dates. Missing this park 10 years ago more and more. Just not sure it’s worth it any more.1 point

Had a pretty amazing time yesterday attending American Coaster Enthusiast's FrightBash - held during Fright Fest at Six Flags Fiesta Texas with my friends. yes, had a great time even going the day after Covid Booster AND flu shot. (lots of Tylenol every 5 hours kept the "blech" away) and even *finally* bumped into Luke and got to spend the whole day with him! 1st time I've managed to synch up with him since TPR Japan tour in 2019 (every time he's at SFFT, I happen to be at SWSA. . no, really! I always seem to be in San Antonio on those days, but at the other park. . LOL). we got 1st ride of the day on Poltergeist, reserved seating at the shows (including fireworks that were AMAZING), skip the lines at the haunts, and much more - including after hours ERT on Dr.D's Cliffhanger (so good at night), Iron Rattler, and Roadrunner Express. the park was absolutely PACKED. . I mean, hard to move packed, and the lines for everything (food, haunts, rides) were insane. If you go during Frightfest? Spend the $$ for Flash Pass, as well as VIP access to the Haunts - it's the only way to get them all done! (luckily, by attending as part of an "event", that was covered for me yesterday) anyways, it was a blast! here are too many pictures the badge and the agenda (Iron Rattler got added to evening ERT. . and the pass ended up being usable as Flash Pass during the day. . saved us a good 1 1/2 hour line on Bug's Flume ride!) Park Map for Fright Fest. . . . SFFT really went all out. and much of it is VERY adult. . I saw multiple crying kids (to which I have to say "good". . I mean, they are warning the parents, and tho MANY families with small kids left before 7 (the park stayed packed anyways), there were a lot of strollers and little kids still in the park post 9pm) most of the shows were very good (tho Curse of the Zombie Prom needs a bit of help figuring out what the storyline is. . .tho it's nice it's in Zaragoza. . so a/c and cushioned seats!. . and it holds a LOT of people) I only had the Bloodbag drinks. . but oh my. . .very good. (rum drink) OMG. .it's LUKE! 1st ride of the day, we got walked back to Poltergeist - my favorite coaster in the park! we were in ~1/2 hour before park opened, so after getting a ride on Polty, some of us wandered over to Wonder Woman to be in line when the park officially opened in 10 minutes or so. While Iron Rattler is still 1 train ops (sad face. . they are stuck waiting on the NEW train *and* the Refurbed 2nd train (yes, still) from Gerstlaur ). . . Wondy is back up to 2 train ops. .so that's progress! Especially since Frightfest is so packed! empty now, because the park isn't open just yet. . so can get some great pics. Rockville High is a Haunt for FrightFest (RockKill). . . we'll get a lights on walkthru tour in a little bit! speaking of. . . No scare actors, because it was early in the day. . but very cool to get a good look at the sets. when we went thru later last night, the place was PACKED with scare actors. Really good haunt. attention to detail is impressive. . since it the dim lights later, you couldn't even see this! these move later. . . a visit to SFFT is never complete without lunch at Sangerfest Halle (Schnitzel sandwhich, Baked Potatoes, and 1/2 chicken are all back! and on the meal plan!). . and without a stop to say hello to "Sweet Connie" by the ladies restroom. after a quick snack it was time for the 1st show. . . the new one "Curse of the Zombie Prom". . it was . . . um. . . ok. But the sets are great, and they were entertaining. . . .as was park president Jeffrey Siebert - who posed for me, when he spotted me in our row to watch the show the scare zones around the park look great - as usual. and interestingly, Houngans House of Voodoo (the permanent "house"), during the day is a kid friendly, lights on, walk thru. . that turns into the "Curse of Rougaru" haunt at night, with scare actors and lots of jump scares. What a great idea, and fantastic use of an existing space! of course, I had to ride my bunny on the Carousel. and got Luke to ride with me we wandered the park and rode lots of stuff (that flash pass badge was a lifesaver on a packed day like today) next "show" was the Unleashing. which is basically Dr. Diabolical introducing her monsters into the park. they used to pour into the park via the train station in CrackAxle with lights and fog effects. . but with the steampunk retheme of Crackaxle - and the heavy theming to Dr. Diabolical - this makes way more sense, and was more effective I think. Short, but I loved this. and just look how close the theater is to the ride! here comes the Doctor. . from the back of the arena.. down the center aisle to the stage. she insults and teases the audience, and tortures a couple of them (plants. . but still effective) and then calls forth her creatures: as noted. . .Flash Pass is a MUST during Frightfest. . .and yes, we got a little moist. . . first maze after 35+ minute line for bloodbag drinks (no.. really!) the jump scares weren't too effective here. .but the atmosphere in here (it's a collapsed mine theme).. was incredible. it's amazing what they crammed in here. (in fact, all the haunts LOOKED amazing. . great job Fiesta Texas. . very high end setpieces) (out of order, but this was randomly in the kids section. . LOL) PACKED. . this is the non-VIP pass line! Fear Acres is the big "free" haunt zone that's over in Whitewater Bay. . it was so packed, and with so many strollers? we bailed on it after waiting in the line and not moving for 5 minutes. .there were too many other haunts we wanted to get thru. heard it was fun tho, and full of fear actors. also in the kids area. . this is supposed to be a corn maze for the daytime kiddo stuff. . but it was open, so we walked thru it. they did an AMAZING job. . this is GREAT. Toss some scare actors in here, and this could easily be a top haunt here. headed towards RockKill and the boardwalk haunts (CarnEvil 3D (very good for what they have to work with, and the 3D effects are really good with the paper glasses they hand out) and the new outdoor Cemetery Maze) yeah. . busy! Wonder Woman looks SO good at night the outdoors Cemetery haunt. Dang my good nightvision on my phone. . makes him look WAY less scary the atmosphere in this outdoor maze / haunt is so great! time for the next show! Dr. D's Monster Bash best show of the day if you dont' count the "Frightful Finale" fireworks. Some of the best non-disney evening fireworks I've ever seen. even has an appearance of the Phantom, and the Fireworks blowing up a Chandelier that flies down over the crowd! incredible show to end the night.1 point

We had a great time at both Carowinds during the day and Scarowinds in the evening on Saturday 10/1! It was our first time at their campground with our RV and we were both wildly impressed. The transportation was quick and easy. The shuttle bus allowed us to come and go as we pleased to the park (well, during the day at least.) Here are a few pictures and thoughts to share: - We rode Copperhead Strike opening year and I thought it was a solid B+. Not sure if it’s running any different or if it took a few extra rides to process, but we just loved it! It was a walk on during the day and probably a 30-40 minute wait with 2 trains running (3rd in the transfer bay). The launch felt like it had a bit more kick than usual for Mack and any animated theming elements seems to have held up. - Iron Gwazi and Steel Vengeance still trump Fury for me, as they have a bit more bite to them, but the blistering speed, length, and all the things people love about Fury still hold up years later. I was impressed they were running 3 trains on both this and intimidator even though during daytime hours there had to have been less than 1500 people in the park. I will say that after experiencing Orion, that coaster has significantly more kinetic energy and atmosphere with the Imascore soundtrack (I’m a sucker for those) and the general area theming. Still a testament to how perfect of a ride Fury is. - Intimidator has always been a middle of the road hyper for me. It was running really smooth and I never quite appreciated the first turnaround the way I did this trip. Super cool sensation that’s different than Mako down the road from us. The layout is a little bland and the theming a tad difficult for me to get excited about, but a great coaster that also dominates the skyline. - I rode Top Gun in 1999 and it was fantastic and the ride really hasn’t changed much since then. The station and queue seems abit haggard, but the ride itself looks and feels perfectly maintained. For a compact layout, I really prefer this to the Batman clones. The trench dive gives a respectable nod to Montu which is appreciated. - We quit drinking 9 months ago which has freed up extra money during our park visits so decided to splurge on a VIP bungalow after having a great experience at KI. This was even better, as it was private and even had a TV. In my advanced years it’s been good to take a breather between rides and we really enjoyed it. Definitely worth the $79. - I always enjoy riding our old favorites like Goldrush , Carolina Cyclone, and even Hurler. We had a zen ride (is it called that if it’s just two of you? Might be a stretch…) where I took someone’s recent advice to ride front middle. It was AWESOME - I worked Mantis briefly during college and this really didn’t feel any more uncomfortable. I’ve had some brutal rides in the past. We came back and did it again and had another great ride. - For Scarowinds, we enjoyed ourself because we budgeted in Fast and Frightlane (worth every penny, as always), but frankly the event felt very low budget and light on decor. Thankfully it was included in our platinum pass. The park was packed but not as busy as I expected for a Saturday. Paranormal Inc. was the standout house with a really cool pre show. My second favorite was Depths of Darkness, with the premise that you are in the mind of a serial killer. I’m a sucker for well done fogging, lighting and sound and I thought this was great - just skimping on the actors. Very likely because we walked in shortly before close. Overall, Carowinds was a wonderful time as always and the park is just so comfortable and easy to navigate. There were some IROC certified trainers at the coasters that seemed to be smothering and terrifying their trainees and slowed dispatches to a crawl, but who am I to judge. As much as I love to visit parks that are inherently more charming than Carowinds, such as Kennywood, Waldameer, Hershey Canobie and Lake Compounce, I love knowing that I can go to most CF parks and the rides are running at or near capacity. I know CP can be a crapshoot these days, but my visits to Carowinds and KI rarely is there ride downtime and I don’t think I’ve ever seen single train ops. Taking a weekend to fly to Pittsburgh to get a credit only to show up knowing there is a 50/50 shot of Steel Curtain running one train, with that similar foolishness going on over at Phantom/Thunderbolt too, I’ve found myself avoiding those parks because we just don’t have the patience. Just a personal preference and not trying to be b*tchy. As a huge Afterburn fans, we’re really looking forward to Aeronautica Landing livening up that section of the park. The area is already fenced on off so hopefully they can get a good head start. On Monday, we did make a stop at Lake Shawnee Amusement Park for a tour, which was fantastic. I think most on this forum have heard of it, but the site has been featured on Travel Channel/Ghost Hunter shows. I have never had a paranormal experience in my life, but we actually experienced some activity on the swing ride where a small bag was spinning/swaying fairly violently as our three dogs approached. It was not windy and the other items hanging from the swings weren’t moving - spooky. The guide said the little girl who passed away when the ride was hit by a delivery truck during operations was likely excited by the dogs. The guide seemed relatively unphases and continued his spiel. I can’t say we felt the same level of ease/calm, but super cool. I don’t have a video but my mom is my witness as she saw it on FaceTime. Anyways, here’s a few pictures to share! Next stop, Dollywood today and tomorrow. Quick photo op before opening! Empty station at Vortex. I’ve always had a soft spot for this one. It’s still got that whip, especially row 8 right side. Fury as it’s about to start it’s morning tests Money well spent! Enjoyed hanging out here and the ambiance of a Boomerang really made the experience Obligatory PSL post. I don’t have a great picture of the swings, but here is the Ferris Wheel at Lake Shawnee located in close proximity. After our tour, we were allowed to walk through their haunted attraction which was pretty cool. Highly recommend if you are off the beaten path! Quick last shot on the outskirts of the campground.1 point
