speedracer Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Was the official grand opening of Nut Tree Family Park this past weekend, here's a few preview pix: Complete update at sfmwzone.com: http://sfmwzone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=280&start=0
martinb Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Say that looks like a nice little place. Should I prosume that the Tivoli Tracter coaster thingy was the only coaster?
asimowalk Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 ^It's a Miller. It looks to have a good layout... compared to the Taxi Jams
Electerik Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Wow. Looks like a nice little park. I especially like the tractor front car on the coaster.
PhishyBrewer Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Awesome photos!!! I was planning to be there for opening, but I was just to tired after working midnight shift. I hope to stop by Friday afternoon before heading to SFMW for my makeup to be a monster at Fright Fest. That coaster looks pretty decent. Oh well, it's a credit!
Bush985 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Yea, looks like a fun little park. I'm gonna have to check it out sometime soon. -RD
TheGreatOne Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Great pics and thanks for the report. They really did a nice job there! I love the "Serenity Now" sign.
apollo210 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Nice PTR of this cool looking new park. It looks like a fun family day out filled with fun!
kennywood!007 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Awesome PTR, I really like the layout of the coaster. Looks pretty fast, was it smooth?
speedracer Posted October 23, 2006 Author Posted October 23, 2006 Thanks for the comments guys, appreciate it! . Harvest Express is indeed the only coaster in the park. And it is very smooth, cept for the last 2 turnarounds, which in typical Miler fashion, produce some violent laterals that are right up there with the last turn on Scandia Screamer. With the long train, feels much more like a mine train than a kiddie coaster with the push/pull on each hill. Unfortunately this reduces the amount of airtime you'd probably get if it had shorter trains, but it's still a totally fun coaster and a perfect fit for Nut Tree.
SLUSHIE Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 It doen't look anything like it used to. It's still cool that they opened the place back up though. The tractor on the coaster is cool looking.
speedracer Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 ^ Yeah doesn't look at all like the original park, which is a good/bad thing. Good because this park offers alot more attractions than the original park ever did, so hopefully this will ensure the park stays around and relevent for alot longer than the original did. And it still retains it's down home small quaint park feel to it, even though it's now run by a major corp. No corp. tie in's or sponsorships, heavily family oriented, low key fun, has the same feel and spirit of the original park. My only beef is they didn't include the original Nut Tree Restaurant, the star attraction of the original park IMO. The food was SO good and unique, was the main reason people stopped at the Nut Tree. The rest was just filller to keep people busy while waiting for a table, just like Knott's with their Chicken Restaurant. Such a significant part of the original park, (along with the Candy Kitchen, Toy Shop, and Bakery), shame they didn't take the opportunity and advantage of including these in the new park. http://www.alamedainfo.com/nut_tree_CA.htm
