Angry_Gumball
Yeah, I was going to do my first few games with a cheap hopper. Later when I save up enough, I plan to get the egg. I don't really think I will even shoot fast enough for me to need a fast hopper at first though. Being as you're in the bay area, I can give you some pointers on what fields are good/suck. I still have more fields (paintball credits??) to get but have played at a few already: Sunol, Santa Clara Fairgrounds, Operation PB, The Paintball Zone (Waterford), Venture Games PB, and Bear Creek. Here's my mini reviews on each: Operation PB: Closest one to me, actually in my hometown about 10 minutes away with good traffic. Unfortunately, it's got a very steep price. (Forgot what it is now but back when I played there, it was $20 for 4 hours.) They're a FPO field (Field Paint Only) and they charge a lot for the paint. Only 2 small fields as far as I remember. Not worth visiting. Santa Clara FG: I've played on this field many times and actually like it...but not the way it's ran. You can say it's the Six Flags of paintball fields with disorganized ref's. Prices are good which you can do all day or half day options. This is a BYOP (Bring your own Paint) field. I'd recommend this for beginners and intermediates alike. The Paintball Zone: Way out in the middle of nowhere (Waterford, just past Oakdale) is probably the only con about this field. I mean, what more can you ask for with $10 for all day? They got large fields, 5 I believe. They have a snyper tower, gutted out mobile homes & trailers, and school bus as well as your normal woodsball stuff. Really great field if you don't mind the drive. This is a BYOP field. Sunol Paintball: Yet another gem in the bay area. Staff was friendly and got us up and going as soon as we were ready. Only 2 fields, but they both have really good layouts and are really large. We've only been there once and played in the dreaded summer heat. It's a BYOP too and CO2 fills were fairly cheap. You should check this one out as well. Venture Games PB: Seated on the side of Mt. Diablo, this field is yet another gem. This is probably one of my favorite fields to play as it's a decent woodsball within reasonable driving distance. Only downfall is that it's on a hill side, meaning you could easily trip up and take a ride downhill into the small creek. $20 for all day from what I remember and I believe they still give out cards and keep record of how many visits you make. I think every 5th visit is free. Cheapest C02 fills I've ever seen. $2 to fill up my 20 ouncer. Lastly, watch for deer ticks. Last and least, Bear Creek: This one's in the Santa Cruz Mtns and was probably one my worst paintball experiences ever. On the site it said it was a BYOP and I had a fresh case of pink fill, non staining paintballs. When we arrived, they said "No Pink Paint!" Never said anything on their website about it. One way driveway to get in as well...meaning both directions share 1 narrow road wide enough for a small car. Layout sucked as well...too much overhead brush messed things up for high angle shots and too much low brush for low shots. We ended up spending more than planned so we had to use paint sparingly. Do not visit unless you want to... That pretty much sums up my experiences at the local fields. Not sure where you live, Phazan, but I'd probably recommend the Santa Clara Fairgrounds as a starter field.
phazan
^Thanks Angry_Gumball! I've heard lots of good things about Venture and Sunol. I'll have to check out some of those places. But yeah, thanks for those tips, they helped a lot, and I'm pretty close to a lot of those places.

okinawaboy11
I despise people that don't shut up about paintball. Yes, fun sport (I've played about 5 or 6 times), annoying fans. The guys at my school are like "Paintball dude paintball! You wanna go play some Paintball Colin?" "Do I LOOK like I want to go play paintball " But I could say the same thing about...us. phazan
^I have noticed a lot of people at school being annoying about talking about paintball. I think some people play paintball just because it's cool to have a cool looking gun and cool looking clothes. I like it JUST for the fun of it. A lot of people say "Don't get a Spyder...only n00bs get Spyders". I got a Spyder because it was a great gun for me to start with, and I don't really give a crap about what people say at the field. I mean, look at the shirts they wear while they are paintballing. They are pretty much the same as a moto cross jerzey, but if you show up in a moto cross jerzey you are defiedently a "n00b"! A lot of paintballers annoy me....

Before I reply to the quote, I have one complaint...I wish the report post button was not next to it because I accidentally hit that instead of quote...Sorry for any confusion admins. Anyway, most of the players I see out there are shooting with Spyders...and those using the autocockers, honestly are not any better. Yes, they look intimidating because of their jerseys and overpriced high maintenance guns but it's nothing really....just rich paintballers. What blows me away is seeing a 12 year old with his own Angel or whatever and all decked out in this jersey. I wonder how many times did he bug his parents to invest $1000 on a sport instead of a mere $200 that does the same. Also, another paintball rant: The general public. Yes, I can say general public as they don't play...so therefore, they think paintball is bad...mkay? I had some stupid teacher take my paintball book away as they said "They're guns...Guns are weapons...not allowed at school." I had to explain that it is a sport but I would have been better off talking to the wall. She's lucky I didn't take off my jacket otherwise she woulda blown a fuse seeing a grim reaper holding a paintball gun with red paint on his scythe. Jew
Autocockers (this isn't 2000...wtf is anyone still doing with an autococker?) and Spyders both suck. Ion's are the best "entry level" guns.
Golfie
To be truthful, I am deathly afraid of paintball. It looks painful and the bruises and cuts that people get from it are beasts. However, I'd love to shoot one at someone!
socalMAN123
^ The only time paintball hurt for me was the first time I got hit. From there on after it hasn't hurt at all. As for annoying paintball players, welcome to my world. My brother is freakin OBSESSED with paintball. I mean so obsessed, that he runs around the house pretending to bunker people and diving and sliding behind our couches and stuff. It gets on my nerves. At least I don't run around the house pretending to ride a roller coaster. ---Brent
trustkill22
^^HAHAHAHA. Not many people at my school play paintball so it not very talked and its just something I have been doing just for something to do and have a good time. I have jersey but thats because I bought my hopper online and it came with a free jersey. (to tell you the truth I usually where my t-shirt anyways). I have to say is that it seems like the obsessive paintball players are easier to get out. Heck like a week ago I just went and played 200 paint and the first 3 seconds of the game I got out 2 crazy guys that were all out. I remember after the game they got all packed up and left. I just thought to myself suck my Spyder you Ion goofs.

Ion's are the best "entry level" guns. I'm just curious, how do they suck? And what makes Ions so good compared to Spyders and Autocockers? I'm not trying to say they don't suck I'm just curious why a lot of people don't like them. But anyway, I can't really afford an Ion, therefore I think my E-Spyder will work great for me. Jew
Autocockers are old technology. Tough to maintain and expensive to upgrade if you want to get them up to "modern" standards. Spyders are just built cheap. Like someone else said, an Ion shares a lot with the shocker. Which is a good thing if you want a reliable gun that will shoot fast and have lots of upgrade potential. Jew
I'm bumping this thread because some co-workers wanted to go play paintball last week. It was the first time I played in like 3 years (but I've still stayed current reading pbnation, still visit my local PB store, and checked out a few NPPL/PSP events.). I was shooting my old automag with gravity fed hopper (running on CO2), and realized two things: 1. my gun sucked and I didn't want to spend any money upgrading a dead platform; 2. I forgot how much fun paintball is! So I decided to upgrade: New black Proto Matrix Rail, new 68/4500 HPA tank, Halo B hopper w/ Z board. Pics to follow as soon as everything gets here. Tadao M7 board, Ultralite frame, Airport on/off ASA, new barrel, and Victory board for halo to follow after that. There's two paintball fields about 10 minutes from SFMM if anyone is down for a TPR game...

Angry_Gumball
I so need to drag my friend back on the field and get playing again...I miss those days of coming home and show off all my 'trophies' to all my non-paintball player friends just to see their reactions. Also, I have to see my friend do a suicidal surrender spree...he's crazy! So crazy that the refs find some kind of way to call him out because of him wiping out the opposing team. Can't find the video right now otherwise I'd post it.

TheStig
Eh, Tippmann's are really only good for woods ball or scenario play. I play speed and hyperball only, and my timmy doesnt keep up worth crap. Im thinking about buying my friends Angel off of him shortly, it throws paint like NOTHING.

Gnome
I had a servo brake on my spyder imagine about 2 years ago, I sent it to my brother's friend since he worked in a shop. I never got back my gun. So anyways, I bought what is basically the semi-automatic version of the imagine which is the Spyder Victor. Though I need to upgrade to an electric hopper because I still can out shoot the hopper and as a result I constantly chop balls. But its been awhile since I've played paintball at an actual place like SC village or Jungle Island out in Corona, CA, mainly we just play out in the woods when I go up to my uncle's house in Gardnerville Nevada, which we usually go to 2 - 3 times a year. TheStig
Im kind of in love with the Epiphany, I know I know its just a step up of the Ion, but I think it looks a LOT better! I probably wont get one, but Im looking around for someone selling a higher end gun package (loader, tank and all that jazz) because my 98 is outdated (double trigger, flatline, Evo Loader). I've played with a Halo B hopper with the victory board, and that thing rips out paint like crazy! But I have to say I prefer the Evo loader I have over it because it just holds sooooooo much paint, but that stupid feed bracket breaks easily and it did on mine. So anyways, yeah, Joey, when I come out to CA (I have NO idea when that would be) we need to play....
