DerekRx Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 So yesterday at work my cellphone/other brain took a spill off of my desk. I tried to catch it, but ended up just volleying it higher into the air before it crash landed on the hard floor. The impact caused the Treo to crack pretty hard, and while it still worked, the screen was in bad shape and I didn't want to have to use it. So I just HAD to upgrade to the newest and greatest. Since the new Treo isn't going to be released for another few weeks, I decided maybe it was time to switch operating systems to Windows Mobile PPC since they have a lot more phones out now and coming out in the future than Palm. Its got Wifi, Bluetooth, QWERTY keyboard, Windows Mobile for PPC 5.0, and best of all, EVDO- meaning DSL speeds on wireless! Best $600 I spent all week! All is well again...or will be once I find Windows programs that did what my Palm programs did Check out this sweet feature! I've gone to the darkside with Windows Hooray for money! Everything still works, including the phone, but the screen just looks bad It looks pretty bad here So Treo 650 didn't survive its plunge unscathed
Meteornotes Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Looks cool. Let me know what you think of it, as I've been thinking of getting one. Â dt
CoasterCrazy Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Awesome phone! Â I would like to have features of a PDA but I don't think I would want to lug one of them around with me. I like my Razor but I wish internet surfing wasn't so crappy on it. Also, it would be nice to have a keyboard when trying to type long messages.
TheStig Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 When I first saw the heading, I though I would see a few pictures of Nicole! That thing looks pretty cool, but it looks like it's too big for somebody like to me lug around... Â Colin C
Wes Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Hey Derek I know this isn't much but I did a little something for you. From TPR To You
Florida420 Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Best $600 I spent all week! Â $600.00 Â Does it have motion control sensors? Blue Ray player? Can you play Halo 3 on it? Â Ohh, sorry 8) Â Wrong $600.00 Â P All "Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii"
BeemerBoy Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Derek, I'm curious....what kind of battery life does one of those things have?
Jew Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 ^^I love you Wes. Â And I'll probably be buying the Treo 700w (Windows Mobile version of the Treo) in a few weeks if I get promoted and actually need to get email synced up.
woah_killa Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Hey Derek I know this isn't much but I did a little something for you. Â Hm...I feel like i've seen this before.... Â I wish I had one of those.
DerekRx Posted May 18, 2006 Author Posted May 18, 2006 Looks cool. Let me know what you think of it, as I've been thinking of getting one. dt  So far I haven't really had much time to play with it, but I added pretty much every program I had on my Palm over (or an equivalent of) and most of the programs are now able to read both formats the same, meaning all my Treo info is now in the PPC. The interface is nice, there's lots of programs for it, and its really easy to use. The only downsides so far are programs don't remove as easily as you'd think, and the phone dial pad is kinda tough to use without actually looking at it. Other than that, its great so far!
Erik Johnson Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Nothing better than upgrading something becuase the old one breaks. I am rather enjoying my new Xbox360 right now because my old Xbox bit the dust last week. Hey, at least these purchases are justified!
mcjaco Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 I had a cell phone with a QWERTY keyboard for text messages...how I miss that phone. Â I'm sure once you use it for awhile, everything will become second nature. I'm still grabbing for the gear shift on the dash, when my new car has it between the seats. Â ^Erik, just curious on what part of the XBox bought the farm? I'm getting disc read errors all of a sudden.
Erik Johnson Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 There is a web site that shows that explains your Xbox error right here. Naturally I pretty much got the rare, "You are so screwed" error. I am pretty sure, like it says, my hard disc crashed or died. That seems to me to common problem for some of the early systems. It had been kinda iffy for the past year, but I guess it finally gave up. Â Â http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210562
waterviper Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 This report just in!!!!! Rumor has it that Nicole has something to do with the breaking of Dereks old toy!!! Speculation has it that it was being used other then its intended use!
DerekRx Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 Crap, you found me out. Nicole, did you tell because I sure didn't!
niiicolaaah Posted May 19, 2006 Posted May 19, 2006 MIKE, have you installed hidden cameras in my room????
DerekRx Posted May 19, 2006 Author Posted May 19, 2006 If you do have hidden cameras, please share the footage with the rest of us (except Barry)
waterviper Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Dude I will never share anything with Barry! Â Yes Nicole I have and have been imensly enjoying it! Â Derek I will send you the footage by tomorrow!
DerekRx Posted May 20, 2006 Author Posted May 20, 2006 Sweet, I'll enjoy that on my new phone! And I thought having the "Since U Been Gone" video on my old phone was awesome.
DerekRx Posted May 21, 2006 Author Posted May 21, 2006 Got the new case for the phone this weekend, to protect it from other disasters. The case was expensive and I can't use the keyboard with the case on, but I can always take the case off if I have to use the keyboard for email or word processing. Anyway, here's some pics. The case holds the phone nicely, and will prevent any pending doom in the next 6 months until I switch providers Easy to open with a magnetic closure, but not too easy for the phone to slide out accidentally Covers everything when closed except for the speaker, which is good! At least now I can hear the phone ring Leather case form fit to the PPC-6700
