robbalvey Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Hey everyone! We finally got our photos from our visit to Thorpe Park ready to go. We got see Stealth test a number of times, walk the launch track, and even visit the "bunker" room where all the hydraulic "stuff" is! Check out the photos here: http://www.themeparkreview.com/miniuk2006/thorpe1.htm Enjoy! --Robb
niiicolaaah Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 "The winch drum attaches to the....Ca-Ble...the cable attaches to the....Catch Car....the Catch Car attaches to the Tra-ain the train goes OMFG fast!!!!" best song ever.
Meteornotes Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Cool photos. That ride looks badass, and I can't wait to ride it. And I loved the "signature shot" comment! dt
Guy T. Koepp Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Great TR! I take it that all those photos were Thorpe Park Aproved?
CoasterCrazy Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Awesome pictures!!! I'm looking forward to riding Stealth in less than 90 days!
The Riddler Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Thanks for the pictures Robb, they are verry nice. I'm looking forward to launch in Stealth, one month to go!
pkdcoaster Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Very cool pics.....they didnt let you strap your POV cam on the front?? oh well maybe this summer JEFF
stevewalsh Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Love the update rob, its better than the stealth microsite even. Im going on Stealth tommorow so I will let you know what its like!
robbalvey Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 Very cool pics.....they didnt let you strap your POV cam on the front?? oh well maybe this summer JEFF Not yet, but it looks like we'll be there again in April so maybe then! --Robb
Ed Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Thorpe just don't want anyone getting hurt. Take note Uk trip people: Anyone bringing a camera onboard without full concent from Thorpe will be taken off the ride and possibly ejected from the park. They are being very strict so people don't get hurt. The whole ride is around pathways and they don't want any stray 80mph objects!
dwerling Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Got a question. I know TTD has been stuck on the top of the tophat before. To get it over the hump someone had to ride an elevator thing and push them over. Stealth however does not seem to have a elevator. How could someone get to the top to push them over? There is a small platform at the top but from what i can see, no way of getting up there. Or are they making it somehow physically impossible to get stuck on the tophat with so much speed or somehow? stealth.bmp Platform but no elevator
ECZenith Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 At that height, I'm sure it would be more economical to simply have a large cherry picker or something similar to bring a staff to the platform. TTD and Kingda Ka are way too tall to find one that can reach that height.
stevewalsh Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Its possible to climb up the inside of the track like a ladder, wearing safety harneses
Nrthwnd Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 ^ You first, heh heh. Looks great there, Robb. Wow. I can't believe I'm going to get to ride this in June.
verticalzero Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Nice photo's Robb, thanks for posting them. Shame you were not allowed to take it for a test run and get a POV Do you think it's stupid to put the brakes 1/2 way on the "camel hill" as will not generate any . The brakes should of been on the flat section after the hill., but we in the UK are "not allowed" to get on our coasters as we might complain to much.

We were told that there IS a cable drivin winch up there that can be lowered and attached to a cage to hoist someone up if that happens. It's kind of hard to see it in the pics, but we were told it IS there. I think you can almost see it in this picture near the end of the platform: --Robb
robbalvey Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 Do you think it's stupid to put the brakes 1/2 way on the "camel hill" as will not generate any The brakes are in the same place on Hypersonic and that produces MASSIVE airtime going over the hill. Brakes or no brakes, the train will probably still be doing a good 70MPH over that hill when it hits the brakes, so the potential for air is pretty good. Those of you who have ridden Kingda Ka, was there air on that bunny hill? --Robb "Well know in a few days!" Alvey
Ed Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 The ride has been handed over to Thorpe and staff were let on today. Early reports suggest quite alot of airtime on the airtime hill.... Although it's still not 100% clear if the ride will open after the "first riders" tommorow, it probably will now as Slammer opened the day after the staff were let on it. I saw them all go on and had to go back to Manchester the next day... ¬.¬
CoasterCrazy Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Those of you who have ridden Kingda Ka, was there air on that bunny hill? IMO, the air on Kingda Ka's bunny hill is good but it could be better!
rabid disney Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Great onsite photo update there Robb. But now im trying to get this finger print off my lcd screen thanks robb.
WillMontu Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 They did a fairly impressive job with the theming, although I think they could have chosen a better name than Stealth (like Humdinger) "Strong magnetic fields - This may affect pacemakers, computers, and cell phones" - Who brings their computer onto a ride anyway? Did Thorpe recently set up wireless access points?
Martin Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 The air was much better felt in the front car than towards the later cars of the train Robb.
TheStig Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Im seriously a Catch Car fanboy now! Man, too bad they didn't let you ride, it must have been tough seeing it test right in front of you, and you had to just stand there and watch it! For a short rocket coaster like that, it has some beastly theming and looks rather awsome. Colin C

Man, too bad they didn't let you ride, it must have been tough seeing it test right in front of you, and you had to just stand there and watch it! Not really. We knew there was a good chance we'd be back in April to ride, and if not certainly June to ride. So it really wasn't that big of a deal to us not to ride it. I mean, we could ride it anytime once it opens, but this is probably the ONLY time we'll be able to get the kind of photos we did. --Robb
