coastered Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I don't know if this is already discussed in this forum. But the search did not find anything. My question: I want to visit some themeparks in the LA area. But I don't want to use a rentalcar. So I want to know what is the cheapest way to travel through LA?
jarmor Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 cheapest way to travel thru LA....hummm has to be walking lol lol but seriously try www.travelhero.com for rental car rates because sorry to say that may be the cheapest and most efficent way to get from park to park.
SharkTums Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Honestly, this has been brought up in a number of different topics and ways but... There is no good way to visit parks in LA without a rental car. PERIOD. The public transportation is almost worthless. For example to get from the Airport to SFMM on public transportation will involve at least 2 or 3 buses, 2 trains, and walking. (It will also require at least 2.5 hours) If you're just concerened with hitting Disney, Knotts, and Universal you could probably arrange some shuttle buses or cabs. Bottom line, you need to rent a car if you want to do all of the LA Area parks.
Robgraves Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 hitchhike... i found thats the best way around seriously, if you want to go to all the major parks the best way is to rent a car. for me however... the best way around L.A. is the one way trip out which i finally get in 3 weeks! whoo! back to a place where i wont trip over the castle when i go to disney.
SonOfBeastSucks Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 You could... 1) Sell your body for free rides to the parks from bi-curious pimps. 2) Get dirt on Robb and/or Elissa and threaten to tell everybody if they don't escort you around the city. 3) RENT A CAR!
socalMAN123 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 It's all about...mass transport! Seriously, most bus stops and train stations take you within walking distance of the pakrs. ---Brent 8)
robinschroder Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 You could have a look at this topic for details of a journey I made in 2005 (and also 2003) : http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=103540&highlight=#103540 Getting around by public transport can be done, but ultimately you'd find it far easier just to rent a car to cut out all the hassle (unless you can't drive like me - I really should take some more lessons and another test!!). Good luck! Robin

dougr Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 If you stay in Orange County and choose your hotel carefully, you can do Knott's and Disneyland with relatively low pain. Magic Mountain appears to be a major pain to get to. I seem to recall researching this earlier. The actual bus stops pretty close to MM, but it's a pain to get from LA to Santa Clarita.
shepp Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Yeah..choosing the hotel is important if you want to avoid car rentals...there are plenty of cheapish motels within walkinng distance of DLP, and as I recall, there's a Greyhound station nearby. There's a Radisson right at Knott's - not a cheap hotel, but I successfully pricelined it really cheaply for a friend, and if you subtract the cost of a car for that day... SFMM is tougher, I think. I pricelined a Hampton Inn (I think) that was pretty close, but not within any sort of walking distnce, and I question if public transport would be reliable from any hotel nearby. Since you're not a U.S. resident, a car may be costly...but unless you move from one hotel to another, I have the feeling that doing the major L.A. parks solely by public transport will be a major pain.
