Twister II Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 I was born and rasied in Glendale, Arizona for 10 years of my life. Castles n' Coasters was just one of the weekend fun things to do. Visits were regular, about at least once a month. Castles n' Coasters is home to the Desert Storm, my very first looping coaster, a Hopkins ride. The Patriot is also a Hopkins kiddie coaster. Sence the train goes around twice, I remember my first time. The first lap I was screaming my butt off saying "I don't like this! I want to get off!" and by the time the train stoped in the station I was, "Lets do that again!". Patriot is know as my very first rollercoaster. This was my first time back to the park in 2 years. This visit was really close to not happening. No one wanted to go. But I convinced my aunt that we should because Patriot was being sold and the fact we didn't get to go last year. So we were just going to stay 1 hour. When we got to the park their was already a long line to get into the park. But since we got our "special" passes for unlimited rides for only $10 we skipped right up to customer service, where our passes were already printed out and waiting for us. My first stop of course was Desert Storm. I got front seat. I tried to get the best POV I could, I havnt check it out yet. But that first loop was just so intense that when you put a penny on your hand, it will be plastered there the entire loop, I've tried. My next stop was the newer ride in the park, Sky Diver. I've been on many different drop towers; but mostly S&S, and Intamin. But Sky Diver is a completly different experience. The lift is slow, and seems to take forever to got all the way up to the top. But once you get to the top you drop. And you fall, your just keep falling and keep falling. It gets to the point where you feel like the car will never stop and you are going to smash right into the ground. The car even shakes about 3/4 of the way down. Don't be fooled by the carnie and a very inapropriate look, its not worth missing. I skipped over to Patriot. I wanted to get on the small coaster before it was sold off. I got a middle seat POV. The helix is still the best part of the entire ride. Then lunch. I never remember Castles n' Coasters pretty much giving away ACEr means for $5.05! Back to Desert Storm. This time I was in the back. Wow. In the back, you get wipped around, a lot. Especially over the top of the lift hill and in the second loop. But non the less sensational ride. Its just to short. I went back and did Sky Diver a couple of times. Splashdown is the parks log flume. I heard somewhere that this one and the one at Cliff's are the only two to have 60 degree drops anymore. I still love the ride. I could ride it all day. From the top of the tallest lift you get some great shots of Desert Storm. Then we headed home. I got some great picutres that will be up as soon as I get back to Colorado. And about 6 minutes of footage, I wish I could of gotten more. But that hour turned into 4 hours. In all, this park is no Knotts, but just a place to go for the day. The coaster is great along with the log flume. The park was very very clean. But the employees could use some Starbucks. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the worst, 10 being the best. Desert Storm - 7 Sky Diver - 9 Patriot - 6 Splashdown - 7 Overall park - 7
CoasterCrazy Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 What is the point of posting the same thread twice? http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21317
viking86 Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 What is the point of posting the same thread twice? Im guessing that he accidentally clicked the "Submit" button twice, which is a very easy mistake to do. And now they are spread apart because people have only replied to this one
SonOfBeastSucks Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Very nice TR, I look forward to seeing the pictures and, of course, the captions.
coaster_type_of_person Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 ooo my homie park, can't wait to see pictures.
TheGreatOne Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 You're right...Sky Diver is the only showstopper CnC has. It's far scarier than any S&S drop tower I've been on. -Bryan "still prefers Intamin Giant Drops" Wood
Twister II Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 I just now got back to Greeley and uploaded the pictures. I'm going to go re-size them right now!
coasterfreak101 Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 If you are planning on posting them ON TPR, don't yet. The bandwith is exceded and yada yada all that technical stuf. If you're gonna do it thru ImageShack or PhotoBucket or somethin, can't wait!!!
Twister II Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 Well the pictures are obviously not working right now! Instead I did a Desert Storm POV. Its 7MB. From off ride, the ride looks fine! But once your on, boy, its a real toughie! Also notice where I get hit with a palm tree. Yes, I am a quite person, you don't hear me talk threw out the entire video. EDIT: Rapid Shared! http://rapidshare.de/files/10079151/DesertStormPOV.wmv.html
BiCoastal Kid Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 cough, nothing uploaded to the site will work, cough cough.
Twister II Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 You send it takes way to long to upload. I already uploaded it to RapidShare, if you don't know how to use it, just ask, and I'll help. http://d18.yousendit.com/E/3LNPU7ZYOHTPY245C2NQMSBGMU/DesertStormPOV.wmv http://s18.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3LNPU7ZYOHTPY245C2NQMSBGMU
coaster_type_of_person Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Why did you put the download up twice? Nice vid by the way
viking86 Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Interesting ride. That second loop is really messed up! Thanks for the video!
PkiJake Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it. Also I think now you can post your pics. -Jake
Twister II Posted December 30, 2005 Author Posted December 30, 2005 Here are the pictures Not many, but at least they are some. That's really about it! If you want a picture of a higher resolution for a desktop, just ask! Thanks! This is where rides get hit with a palm tree, no joke! One of the best rides in the park ...the drunken man's bumper boats. That's just about it. ...the Sea Dragon on steroids... ...go karts...and... ....Like, bumper cars and.... Castles n' Coasters also has some smaller type of rides....like the magic carpet and... Poor riders, getting their sides bruised. How artistic of me The train comes really close to the station. The track is like 3 feet across, but the train has a hang over of 1 foot. That second loop is really messed up. Is like water laced with heroin, it just is really weird. Elissa says, "I have bigger" Splashdown, ahhh, my log flume The sun this day was really hard to deal with. Because when my camera gets the sun in it, it makes the entire picture black. Its to bad that Patriot won't be here to much longer. This is Patriot, its 150feet tall, has a loop, Zero−G Roll, Immelman, and a corkscrew.....o...nvm. This is pretty much the entire layout! The ride is, to me, to short. If I didn't know any better, I would have to say the second "loop" would be an Immelman Desert Storm has its first loop enter a lot lower than the exit, so its VERY intense!
TheGreatOne Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 The second loop is actually a loopscrew that was modified to fit in the space alloted. I also love the Magic Carpet(Musik Express) and Sea Dragon.
coaster_type_of_person Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 That second loop does look like an immelan! nice pictures, and i'm glad you had fun. Sky Diver really is an amazing ride! Very intense!
Damien666 Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Nice pics, it does look like a nice park for what it is. I also like hearing the great things about Sky Diver because my home park Silverwood is getting the same type of drop tower!
haux Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 That second loop does look like an immelan! nice pictures, and i'm glad you had fun. Sky Diver really is an amazing ride! Very intense! Do you guys even know what an Immelmann is? This is nowhere near one. This is a loopscrew, as Bryan pointed out. I don't take pride in saying that Castles 'n' Coasters is my home park, but I can say that Sky Diver is the best drop ride I've ever been on. That's the star attraction of the park. Desert Storm's OK. It's pretty intense for its size.
socalMAN123 Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Nice pics! Last time I was by Pheonix, I was still afraid of coasters. ---Brent 8)
