zburns999 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I have often wondered this, and I thought I might bring it up. Would you ever leave the "coaster world" for a year, just to see what its like to be a gp, and be surprised by what has occured during your absence? I think it would be cool if you went to visit your home park and there was a new coaster there that you never knew was being built. What do you think?
Teddymonster Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Nope...I think I'd spontaneously combust.
bobpuppet Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I said no, but then again Im a new arrival to the coaster world. I think I'll stay a while.
CoasterCrazy Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I wouldn't leave the coaster world for a week so why would I leave it for a whole year!
coasters 4 me Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I couldnt. I have thought about them at some point everyday. (Who said yeah?!)
SonOfBeastSucks Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I was a member of the GP once, I already know what it is like. NO
jackskellington101 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 On the risk of sounding stupid, which isn't very hard for me, what does gp stand for?
robbalvey Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 "GP" stands for "General Public" but not the General Public led by Ranking Roger and famous for "Tenderness"
jackskellington101 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Thank you Robb. With that information, the answer would still be no. I've been fascinated with parks for all my life and wish to continue with them for as long as I am able. For example, that new position that Al Weiss has looks pretty interesting...
Scaparri Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 No, I wouldn't. This is my hobby and passion. I couldn't just up and leave it.
Wes Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I have before, and could easily do it again, it's not that hard. I don't really care about coasters as much as I used to when I was in high school, the main reason I stay in the hobby is the friends I've met.
TwistedTrack Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 who is the world said yeah! I wouldnt be easy, excpecaly with all these new coasters coming up.
AznShortBoi8021 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I do roller coasters from May to September. Then I do trains and railfanning from October to October. I think I can last one year. I can last seven months, so why not twelve months?
MSLSM Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I do not think I could. I was probably more of a member of the GP before this year, and it just was not as fun. I have a good time hearing the GP talk about coasters(Hades is in Florida?!),and I do not want to become one.
Kroger8 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 No, I don't do much as an enthusiast, but I love the news of building new rides, and other news in the amusement park industry!
zburns999 Posted November 23, 2005 Author Posted November 23, 2005 I was probably more of a member of the GP before this year, and it just was not as fun. I agree. Being an enthusiast is really insane or geeky to some people, but I really don't give a crap because its fun, and forums like this (and RCPro 8) give me something enjoyable to do when I'm bored.
euphoric Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I remeber coming to cedar point in 02' and being like, "woah. wicked twister... sweeeet." Yeah I could never go back to being a GP, I hear people saying things like the Power Tower is 420 feet tall and Dragster is 240 feet tall and I just laugh. I could never be like that.
coasterdude5 Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 No way. Someone a while back at school asked me if I would end my coaster hobby for a million bucks. At first I said: YES!, but then I thought, most of the stuff I would buy would be coaster related. Coasters pretty much go through my mind all day.
zburns999 Posted November 23, 2005 Author Posted November 23, 2005 ^You should see my note books for school. There must be about an average of three designs for coaster layouts on each page. If I like the design, I sometimes design a whole park around it. My friends and other kids laugh and think I'm insane.
waterviper Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Once ya gone "Coaster World" there is no turning back!!! The answer is forever NO!!! Ya when im at a park and I hear some GP kid say something about a rollercoaster or a ride and I know as a fact hes wrong I just jump in the convo and say whats right! Cuz I know im right!!
Luxo Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Yes I could. As much as I love roller coasters, I appretiated theme parks just as much as when I was part of the GP. The main reasons I'm still here is because of Robb, Elissa, and everyone else here for being so awesome! And I can get good feedback for my videos and RCT designs (you don't have to be an enthusiast to make videos and RCT parks either.)
zburns999 Posted November 23, 2005 Author Posted November 23, 2005 ^Yea, but you have to know something about coasters to be good at RCT2. I mean, my friends have it and their coasters have un-banked turns, 200 foot drops followed by corkscrews, and footpaths that rise up 50 feet in the air for no reason whatsoever.
USRoadTripper Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 If there were money involved, or some sort of incentive, I'd give it a thought. Like "Free Disney annual passes for life if you don't ride a coaster for a year"...ok, that would make me consider it! But giving it up "just because"? No way. -Julie
Damien666 Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Even though I can go into the "Furry" world...I love coasters so that would be a NO. Coasters, darkrides, flatrides, I love them all and would not leave them all for a year.
